Also people calling for Menadue better be careful as he’s been monstered by Geelong in the past. He’s a vanilla footballer and can’t win a contested ball . You can’t have him and Brando in the same side against bulls like the Cats. Also if you can’t win hard ball you need to stop your opponent and Menadue isn’t defensively sound enough to do so.
Two tackles against North Melbourne’s VFL side suggests that he’s still limited defensively.

LoL someone put together a comparison between Grimes being held in the square trying to touch the ball and the Brown free kick a minute later. LoL norphh. Still rather lose as Richmond than win as norph. Minnow irrelevant club.
And these are the umpiring inconsistencies that frustrate your average supporter. The intentional out of bounds the week before was a farce, the ump cocked up early and then they tried to manufacture some consistency. Just feel the current batch of umpires aren't up to the task.

IN: Grahem, Lambert, Rioli
OUT: Butler, Bolton, Baker

Also could someone make a preview already please

Just went on the geelong forum, they think they got this in the bag. Time for an upset, GoTiges

I’m sorry but I am not buying the youth excuse because the majority of Stack, Bolton, Balta, Soldo, Garthwaite and Ross were not playing when we had similar losses in Rounds 2-3. Stack played in Round 3, but he was great. Garthwaite also played and he didn’t have a great game. Our losses have had a similar pattern this year:

At half time, the margins were:
-6 against Collingwood. Lost by 44 points
-15 against GWS (and -8 just after 3rd quarter started). Lost by 49 points.
-13 against Bulldogs (and -7 just after 3rd quarter started). Lost by 47 points.
-4 against North Melbourne. Lost by 37 points.

Looking at that, the common theme here is how our senior players are playing and not our young players. The seniors collectively start making mistakes after mistakes, which leaves us exposed to conceding a run of goals. Tenured players who are supposed to know how to tackle consistently bounce off their opponent upon contact.

When I am watching the game, I do see some youth make mistakes, but we have tenured players compounding these mistakes by not cleaning up after them like we used to in 2017. In fact, some of the more costly mistakes are from players who have been in the system for a while.

Losing against Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne is excusable when you have injuries and are young, but at no stage is getting thrashed by 6+ goals against them excusable for a supposed top 8 side. We all know that no matter how injured Geelong or Collingwood are, you wouldn’t see them get thrashed by the 14th-placed side like we did last night. Not a good look for Richmond.
A thrashing at the hands of the Saints and where on track of a 17 repeat.;)

Let's forget the reason these guys came in, it was to fill in for those who had been injured. And with some players coming back we need to offload dead weight. I still think Baker being dropped is harsh but it needs to be done to make way for 3 premiership players that know how to handle the footy and most importantly consistantly well.
LoL@dropping Baker.
Higgins is the one who should be dropped way before Baker.

Yet “floppy arms” Browns first goals were from the softest frees all year...
That one against Grimes for the arm hook was pathetic.Grimes arm was no more than on a 5 degree angle.lol

I want to put a spotlight on Astbury by looking at oppo team key defenders. I a couple of years ago I thought he was a C- player, more recently a B+, but without Rance doing half his job, i think we can see how weak be is at being a key defender.

Lets start with Fri night:
Tarrant, Thompson
Moore
Pearce and even Ryan ahead imo
David, Tomlinson
Taylor, Blicavs, Henry
Andrews, Gardener
Talia
Brown, Battle
Clurey, Houston
and we'll finish with
McGovern, Hurn

Where does he fit in amongst those players for contested marking, spoils, tackles, speed to defend.

Yes the ball came in quick and a lot and the backline was under the pump, but I watch other teams' defenders taking alot of contested marks (for us -Rance- Vlastuin-Grimes), being right on their opponents hammer and getting a fist in (Rance-Vlastuin-Grimes).
I'm back to my 2016 opinion of Dave on what I saw Fri night. He is the weakest link in the backline -
and worringly Garth is just as limited from early signs.

Many asking why Dimma didn't make the switch on Fri night to Brown... because he know Astbury wouldnt have a chance in hell keeping up with Brown. Would have kicked 10.

dimmer tells the team to tank at shitihad. the more we lose there the more likely benny will push the afl to put less of our games there
Not to mention Gf's are played at the G,Not shitland or Geelong.

I swear some people don't even AFL or Sport in general judging by their statements. No team ever wins every game lol

But we do win every game right Madtiger2006 lol. See how we come out over the next 2 weeks. Need atleast 1 win

Rancey covered big time for his mate in Astbury...still have him in the side cos we have no-one else...but currently what we are getting with Astbury is as good as it's ever going to get!

North’s VFL side towelled us up with our bests being Townsend Graham Egg and Naish. Rioli also worked hard late with 14p and 7 tackles although the game was shot.
I’d bring at least four in ( no Egg ) for Bolton Lynch Butler and Broad.
Ellis and Soldo survive to fight another day.
People saying Lynch is being triple tagged are wrong imo as he’s just not working or moving around enough which makes him a sitting duck for tall defenders to easily shut him down. Also the rucks are filling his space easily and easily out marking him or thumping the ball out of harms way. He’s been tooooo predictable and of no assistance to our smalls. The net effect of all of this is players just bombing it in bc he’s a frozen target as no other tall options are there. Dusty in the FL was a much better option as the North defenders couldn’t cope with his smarts mobility and strength. Lynch is offering us none of these either bc he’s unfit or just not up to our game plan. I always saw him as being a silver spoon forward who liked to be fed which was phased out years ago. He needs to adapt quickly otherwise his confidence will drop and soon enough could be the next TV .

Great assessment of Lynch.
He was insipid. 'Silver spoon' and 'entitled' sums him up.

Good description of some of the so called tiger supporters posting on here...for a moment there i thought i had mis-clicked and was on the oppo thread...

Can’t drop Garth for the cats, we need his height down there big time.
Yeah Astbury & Broad weren't much better. If Hawkins is rubbed out they will probs bring in Fort who is tall. May as well keep getting games into Garth. He has the tank, and the height just needs to learn how to use them
