Taranto the opposite with a much larger percentage

Last year he has 25 touches, 9.7 contested and 4.8 tackles and got 1.7 frees per game.
This year he has 32 touches, 13.6 contested and 7 tackles and gets 0.6 frees per game.

How does a players numbers go up by 30%-45% in areas that should lead to winning frees, yet his frees for drop by 64%? Clearly its not just the type of players he is, he used to win frees. Has he changed the way he plays in such a way that he no longer gets infringed on?

Pretty damning isnt it.

How great was that game

Umpires showed up in full force and put in almost their best effort for the year against us, maybe not subbing the 5th umpire off the bench cost them.

Cotchin's 2 goals and a tonne of possessions

His best mate Martin mid 30 possessions with three shots on goal, one was touched on the line, one hit the post and the other missed by a bee's diaphragm..the force is back with that one come finals he will be ripping them a new one.

Balta rag dolling King who tried to put it on him with Higgins rushing from behind in support only to bounce off Balta and do a couple of 360 pirouettes

And when it doubt who does not love Timmy at Tigerland

He now plays for Richmond, simple really.

Something has changed slightly as they look more free in the mind but one thing that hasn't changed yet under mini is the blowing of leads, 3rd straight week now and even though we have won all of them it's so damn frustrating, i want us to demolish teams.

vs GWS: lead by 29 pts 3m in 2nd qtr, concede the next 4 goals to lead by 2 pts at 22m in 2nd qtr.
vs Freo: lead by 36 pts 21m in 3rd qtr, concede the next 6 out of 7 goals to lead by 7 pts at 4m in 4th qtr.
vs StK: lead by 25 pts 18m in 3rd qtr, concede the next 3 goals to lead by 6 pts at 29m in 3rd qtr. ( also a 4 goal head start to saints )

But it's been a theme all year in almost all games where we either get a good lead then shut up shop allowing the oppo back into the game or we give up a 1st qtr head start to the opposition and need to work back into it. As Tiges1229 puts it, Jekyll and Hyde within a game.
Yep umps didn’t help sat night tbh , we had momentum couple of dodgy frees and a 50 resulted in goals , swings momentum then saints fluke a few off the ground.

Yellow sash

Don’t know if you have gone into the umps board but one of our posters made a thread asking about why we get ****ed by the umps so regularly

A Hawks poster made an interesting point (not verified)
But said the training footage the umps use for free kicks featured mostly Richmond and Hawthorn infringements and Geelong and Dogs received in the footage

I have no idea how true this is but if it’s true it could absolutely play a role in subconsciously influencing decisions around these teams and interesting enough Hawks and Richmond are two of the sides mostly on the bad side of the free kick counts and we all know the opposite for the dogs

Cats are middle of the table

Would love to know if it’s true
I dont know if true, but is 100% a way to influence umpires perception on certain teams.
I repeat, 100% it will subconsciously influence umpires, like you said.

Maybe Hopper even plays reduced time, like a half, at VFL level

It was a serious calf injury, don't want to load that up too quickly

No the headline was deliberately misleading for clicks.
The roast was from Jack Riewoldt saying he was making it all about him.
It was in jest after Dimma said the same about Jack when he pulled the pin.

didn't click it as knew it would be some garbage like that

Any word on Samson's ankle?

its an issue with our forward line. We basically couldn't score in all of the 2nd half bar the last 5mins. Smalls and talls need to lift.

One point I picked up from Cotchin's post match interview was his respect for how difficult the half forward role is. His return to form over the last two weeks combined with his move back into the midfield, is no coincidence. Cotchin and Dusty play their best football as midfielders. Dusty was incredibly damaging because he could confuse the opposition by unexpectedly moving forward as well. Cotchin has always been an inside midfielder who throws himself at the contest (literally).

What I do think we should also take away from those comments, is just how selfless you need to be as a half forward. You don't stand out as much. You don't get as much possessions or even as much goals as you would as a normal forward. This is why Pickett was so important to our recent rise. He's executed the role perfectly - bring the ball to ground, crumbing and making the oppositions half backs accountable. Clarke has also been playing the high half forward role along with Mansell. These roles are crucial to our structure and I think we need to give these players more kudos for the speed, spread and space they create for others.

Just as importantly, Picketts change of role has enabled Ross to play on the wing. Clarke and Graham's inclusion into the forwardline, have enabled Cotchin and Dusty back into the middle where they play their best footy.

Hoppers return concerns me though. He's a bull midfielder but who drops out for him to return? We have the right balance in our forwardline now so I don't want another resting midfielder in their just to try and keep as many midfielders on the park as possible. That was our mistake earlier in the season. I pray we've learned from it.

I hope they continue with this same structure moving forward and resist the urge to play too many midfielders all in the same team.

Clamp the Lachie Neale. Hello Jacob Hopper, here's your job coming back in. Sorry HRS, Rip it up in the 2's, put some pressure on for a recall.

Pickett come in MRJ to the sub because a bit of run down pressure against tired legs will be handy. Always a small chance that F1 driver gets a call up for MRJ, but in the heat, MRJ....I like.

Well the rain played a part in that, saints apart from those 3 goals in quick succession only scored 0.2.2 for the rest of the 2nd half.

Plus the forward line has nothing to do with the oppos scoring, that's on the mids and defense.

s**t game for Noah. he really needs to work on decision making, a few really poor decisions.
I actually thought he played well, beat King and set up drives out of defense with long kicks which is what you want in the wet. Couldn't fault him really and add in the intercept marks he did his job.

I agree about the rain and to an extent 'opposition scoring'. The issue we have had all year is our fwd line pressure. It has been too easy for defences to rebound out of our 50 and set up a scoring opportunity. That falls mostly on our small forwards.

If the games...and that's the big IF...if the games were umpired fairly I suspect our leads agin the oppo would increase and grow...and not be curtailed by dodgy umpiring that swings the momentum back to the oppo!
