Autopsy Round 1 2019: Hawks defeats the Crows

Interesting our forward line only kicked 2 goals in that match, our midfield kicked 10. Good signs considering Mitchell is out. The defence looked solid as a rock, even when we were under siege for the first part of the final quarter; so much better with Sicily back there.

Why are posters bashing Eddie Betts? He's kicked over 550 goals playing as a small forward, and most of his career he was at bottom feeding Carlton. That an all-time great small forward effort.

He was cooked last year, so there's not much point rubbishing him now. He's at the end of his career.

What is his record against Hawthorn.
We tend to consistently keep him quiet.
I think that will answer your question

Do yourself a favour and try and remember another time in the last decade a key forward has been embarrassingly taken to the cleaners as bad as Tex was yesterday by Sic, not only did Sic dominate him in the contest he had 27 touches and was close to BOG. That would have been last year tige. Burto had 24 possies and 2 goals whilst Tex ran in circles chasing his tail

A bit more optimism from posters this week.
Reading the JLT threads you would think we were Brisbane.
I have never understood how practice matches are taken so seriously.

I’d take them both ahead of Betts personally
Well yeah ones 32 and the other two are 25 & 23. Greene is seriously overrated though, good player but his best season doesn't even come close to Eddie's 8th best season.

Degoey is a different beast though, he's going to end up in the midfield more & dominate, dude is something special

Was lucky enough to go to the game , from the ground key observations

- Frawley / Mirra/ Sicily/ Stratton / Hardwick were great , beat the Crow forwards hands down, Scrimshaw looks a player as well.

- Sicily kicking out was a weapon , with the new rule was bombing to the wing.

- BB and Cegs controlled the rucks, BB is at the peak of his powers right now if he stays fit will have a huge year, Cegs 2 Nd year back off an ACL moved well.

- Mids worked so hard as a group , Worpol is a beast , got 200 gamer leadership written all over him, is hard as a cats head at the ball , Cousins work rate and finding the ball is starting to come through , he is looking more comfortable every game.

- Work rate and tackling pressure was off the charts and Fowards all contributed.

All goes well for a good year !! Go Hawks

Impey was a beast back there also!

About 200-300 goals clear of Breust and Wingard at the minute mate. He's even kicked more than Boomer despite playing for about eight seasons less haha (conceding that Harvey played a really different position). He'll rightly go down as one of the greatest ever small forwards no matter how much you agree to disagree with it.

Oppo detractors also say that Breust mainly kicks cheap, easy goals, and they're equally misguided.

Sorry, but no supporters say Breust kicks cheap, easy goals. He is one of those players that is liked by all supporters.

What shouldn't be forgotten about this win is how important the game was to Adelaide.

Of course it meant a lot to us a well, round 1 interstate, key players missing, underdogs. But this meant everything to the Crows, there was a huge build up for them, they were fired up and wanting to make a statement.

The outcome probably says a bit about them, but it says a whole lot about us.
I loved how halfway through the 3rd or 4th quarter one of the commentators said.
Crows missed finals and Hawks finished top 4 but everyone thought Crows would rise and Hawks would fall this year.
Maybe we all made a mistake

The shots were pretty balanced.
13 scoring shots from mids and 12 from forwards.
It was the return that wasn't
10.3 mids 2.10 forwards

Very good performance buy our midfield. I have always been confident they can match other teams Scully and possibly Howe will further boost them.
They won't be allowed that much freedom every wk. So it's a lil concerning our fwd line.

Roughy n Cegs for no goals time to develop Lewis while Roughy can guide him on the field.
The good thing is our depth Wingard a star, Hanrahan and Moore are eyeing off poppy role. Good times ahead

Went for peep at the Adelaide board and it’s harsh. On page 1 saw this. Loved the Don Pyke pants pulled down but......enjoy

“It all started when we selected David Mackay. A stupid, idiotic, disgusting selection that immediately threw up red flags. Did we learn from last year? Obviously not judging from that one decision before the game even started. Can't move forward when we have pathetic decision making like that.

It looked like our players had done everything but play football over the off season. Horrendous skills. Destroyed in the air. Destroyed on the ground. Mutilated in the forward line. Annihilated by a severely undermanned Hawthorn midfield. An absolutely pathetic performance. The players should be ashamed.

Don Pyke had his pants pulled down. His pants were then taken off and thrown in the river. It was like he was coaching with his penis exposed to the players and that's all the players could think about throughout the match. He needs to take ownership, put his pants back on and learn. If I hear excuses like "we just needed to execute better" I might vomit.

Douglas is shit. Mackay is shit. Jacobs is cooked. Walker is cooked. Lynch is soft. Jenkins sucks. Betts is finished. Knight did nothing. Murphy did nothing. Milera was awful. Laird was bad. Kelly tried but he just sucks. Gibbs was useless.

And then Doedee does his ACL. Well **** me the signs aren't good”

Just another post game thread on the Crows board.

I guess that what happens when you get a group of collective minds together.

On a serious note though you're absolutely correct, it's hilarious and I spent quite some time there myself last night.

If people think we overreact here at times, maybe go take a look at their board before making judgment on our own.

McEvoy took 5 contested marks yesterday.

He owned the crows in the air.

Talk about good backline structures

Imply 13 intercepts
Stratton 9 intercepts
Sicily 8 intercepts
Hardwick 8 intercepts
Mirra 8 intercepts
Scrimshaw 8 interreceipts
Frawley 5 intercepts

Remember Burton taking him to cleaners as well over there and kicking 2 sausage rolls on him.

The entire backline was switched on yesterday and McEvoy was bloody elite.

Massively underrated, almost to the point where it's criminal.

I’m a big Ruff critic (a tad harsh as he was a freak), but his deft touches and smarts where super impressive yesterday. If he can just just duke a few more then he will have a good season, at least atm he is impacting the contest which he did not do last year.

I think the rule now allowing him to hold his opponent under the ball without giving away a free will help him take a few more grabs this year. If he ensures his hands are solid I wouldn't be surprised if he knocks out a 40+ goal season.

Funnily enough, it is the last time we played here. crows top of the ladder, Hawks 17th. Burton gave Walker a hell of a touch up - in fact he kicked more goals than Walker.

Abasi is spot on. We don't rate Walker. Nor does he really come to play against us. When the chips were down in that 3rd quarter for his team what did the co-captain do? Started to snipe & wrestle Sicily. He's a flat track bully.
