Rompingwins: He's got the ball! He's running! He's at half-forward! Oh no, he's on another team's board and he's going to be infracted!
BT: Wait, he's given himself both barrels!
Rompingwins: He's lucky he gave himself that uppercut, saved a mod telling him off. Was a great save.
BT: If i talk him up as a poster, can my next door neighbour get him home to the Essendon board with a payrise?
Rompingwins: I'm only here because my brother is the AFL boss!
BT: O boy o boy

MOD NOTE: it's great to have visitors, and it's great when they join in the good-natured banter of football here. And it has to be good natured. Read the rules, play nice, i've got more cards than the casino and i'm happy to deal them out ;)

Got to be the form mod of the competition atm. Let's see if he can keep this form up when season proper starts.

All these people criticising jenkins, do me a favour, can you predict how many goals you think he will kick this year. I assume it would be less than thirty the way your are talking maybe even less than 20. Well, put your reputation on the line, lets see if your as expert as you think you are, not captain shit talkers and captain hindsights.

To play by my own rules: I predict he'll kick over 50 for the season.
50 handball receives in the square from Betts hey?
I'll give you 20 ....no more than 4 from contested marks. Zero in finals...and 4 frees against in a losing GF while his man runs off setting up forward thrusts from defence ....Jenkins jogging behind looking disinterested in chasing.

There'll be a 6 goal game against a wooden spoon contender to pad out his stats.

I still think he could've played for a few more years but Craig had other ideas.
Ben’s form for North Adelaide the year after he left the Crows does not support this view.

Neil Craig had many faults but retiring champions too early was not one of them. Roo went one season too many as did Nigel Smart. Goodwin, McLeod and Edwards all suffered injury or illness that prevented them finishing their final season.

I see; I never saw Hart play for NA in his final year of footy.

You're right - most went a year too long. Not a champion but Jason Torney still had a bit left in the tank.

OT - sort of - I'll be in Melbourne for both the Essendon (R1) and Saints (R3) games at Etihad. Just tried to buy a ticket sitting with the other Crows people for the Essendon game but they've sold out and the website won't even tell me where they sit. Can anyone tell me where they sit so I can try for somewhere near by please? Don't want to end up in the middle of the bombers fans if I can avoid it. TIA. :)

Torney would be spewing. At the start of Craig's tenure it was decided that anyone in the 30+ crowd could be cut prematurely in order to refresh the list. Then, as Jack points out, quite the opposite happened.

From jenny61_99 supplied stats, taking out the draw he kicks a goal a game more on average when we win.

From 20 games (he was injured in round 2, had rounds 3-4 and 5 out, had round 9 out).

Kicked 45-22.

R1 Kicked 3 goals 3. 20 disposals. Win
R6 Kicked 1 goal 0. 11 disposals. Win
R10 Kicked 3 goals 1. 14 Disposals. Win
R12 Kicked 3 goals 3. 14 Disposals. Win
R15 Kicked 3 goals 1. 13 Disposals Win
R16 Kicked 4 goals 1. 15 Disposals Win
R17 Kicked 1 goal 1. 13 Disposals Win
R18 Kicked 1 goal 0. 13 Disposals Win
R20 Kicked 4 goals 2. 13 Disposals Win
R21 Kicked 3 goals 2. 21 Disposals Win
QF Kicked 1 goal 1. 7 Disposals Win
PF Kicked 4 goals 0. 17 Disposals Win
2.58 goals/game

R7 Kicked 2 goals 2. 13 Disposals. Loss
R8 Kicked 2 goals 1. 10 disposals. Loss
R11. Kicked 2 goals 0. 10 Disposals. Loss
R14 Kicked 3 goals 1. 14 Disposals Loss
R22 Kicked 1 goal 2. 19 Disposals Loss
R23 Kicked 1 goal 0. 11 Disposals Loss
GF Kicked 0 goals 1. 7 disposals Loss
1.57 goals/game

I would expect the same to be true for all forwards. ie. They kick more goals... we win. They kick less goals... we lose.

Exactly. And there's a chicken/egg thing in measuring any player's performance

I'm pretty sure Level 1 Aisle 24 (LaTrobe Street end) I'm a Victorian GA member, so because it is an Essendon homeGame...I had to pay A$35 for an upgrade from GA on Level 3 to Level 1 - this is onTop of the A$20 (discounted from 25 bucks, that is charged by 'our' club). In contast, 2 weeks later against St.Kilda, I'm only paying 11 bucks for a similar upgrade, go figure...
must still be a substantial 'legalBill', that the Dons are helping reduce with the $$$ from opposing fans!

Sometimes you just have to trust what you see with your own eyes. There isn't necessarily a stat to back up every opinion. Its why Scott West isn't rated the best footballer of all time.

Thanks sash79 - appreciated. I'm pretty sure I saw some Level 1 tickets when I was searching around last night. Will have another look. And no the increase in price doesn't surprise me at all when it comes to Essendon. They'll be paying off the Hird years for decades. But looking forward to seeing the boys play again in Melbourne - and just glad its not the MCG - not sure I'm ready to front up there again yet! Cheers.

God damn it - just realised that I have a gig on next Friday so I will miss this game

Argh havent had a gig all summer, bit of a break and been hanging for one but of course this clashes

Am annoyed
