Round 1 Trades

Lake --> Mackie, Waters, Goddard or someone else?

To get Goddard, I'd have to do another trade, Coniglio > Mcdonald maybe.

I already have Birchall, Shaw, Deledio and Broughton.

I'm thinking Mackie will score well enough and might even beat his average last year which makes my dollars better stretched.

Goddard, I'm worried about contract negotiations - he doesn't seem that committed to re-signing with St Kilda and I'm afraid that he may be dropped at the end of the year to give someone else experience if he doesn't strike a deal. Am I being paranoid? Either way, I don't know that the extra money is necessarily better spent than it would be with the others, letalone the trade involved.

Waters seems like he might be a good choice, definitely best bang for your buck if he can stay on the park.

Thoughts? I want to do it this week so I can save two for next week if I need to do some swapping before prices change.

I don't have Kennedy, I have Devon Smith and a host of other crap performers and I still want to wait and see another game before wasting a trade. Maybe I am the crazy one?

Getting rid of Coniglio is like getting rid of Dave Swallow last year.

You'd have to be nuts. He'll be worth at least $300k when he starts scoring or else he's out of form and it's a media circus.

All the kids with pressure on them (highest picks) will perform at one time or another even if the team isn't firing.

Lake is a long term injury to my DT.

Apart from one bad game, what has changed since you selected him.
Have you got room for him on your bench?
Unless you are forced to play him you gain nothing by trading right now, unless your team is full of spuds, which means that you are in fact the long term injury to your DT.:D

The rules are still being written.

Especially given the structure/byes is changing every year.

You only get a 2 game grace on price rises once during the year and this is it.

Those that use this period wisely can profit.

For sure.
If you have 4 players who are underperforming you can trade out 2 each week. But after only one week its hard to tell if they are really underperforming.

According to this list http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/dream_team_round?p=&s=V

I managed to pick the four best value choices. Only having McDonald and Magner ( potentially ) out will screw me up.

I'm not short of cash so I dont really want to burn trades picking up someone who may be a first game wonder. (Was DT going in 2006 .. how many people jumped onto Dean Polo ).

But If Magner isn't playing I'll have to start Dylan Shiel or Tom Ledger, Its tempting to jump on Toby Greene. ( At which point the rules of Murphy dictate that whichever of Shiel or Ledger that I trade will score approx 120 while Greene plays sub).

So much of this. :D

There's always a reason to trade. Just need to decide if it's a good reason or a bad reason.

My DT preparation was going nicely enough until unforeseen circumstances kept me away in the week leading up to and following the opening game. Round one team was compromised as a result. Less than ideal situation but I'd rather fix it now than try to ride poor scores from players who, in the end should probably not have been there. I see that as a good enough reason to trade early.

If you want to turf three players, then obviously you need to get at least one done this week.

However does anyone have three players that they really need to get rid of? Lake, maybe, he does look underdone. Porplyzia - maybe, but you know he's better than that. Broughton - still scored 60 playing a lock-down role, and he probably will do much better v Sydney. McDonald - he's only out for two weeks. Magner - if he is injured he should only miss the one week.

I'd rather wait for more info before acting. Prices still remain the same after this round.

The team is fine, if I had taken a Premo and rookies approach with a minimum of mid-pricers he wouldn't be there anyway. He isn't in my SC team because of this I took a put that his preseason would allow him to build and atleast score moderately in the first couple rounds.

Now he will play Adelaide, Adelaide's defence has traditionally been reasonable (most of the time). I just have a hunch that he could repeat the DT score. I'm sure his role on game day is valuable to the team, but for DT, now I am having severe doubts about his scoring ability.

The trade now argument looms heavy as I'd like to use this round to evaluate the rookies that I did not select and maximise the number of the better rookies, rather than the fringe players that may not get consistent games. I could do 1 trade now and achieve 2 things, reduce the number of mid-pricers in my team and get a rookie with JS into my team.

I am not saying I will make the trade, but because the "don't trade now" argument is well known, I'm taking the counter argument.

I need to see Hall, Milera, Greene, Bowe, Mohr (and the list goes on) again. I can only get 2 of these players before price rises. I'm allocating myself these early 2 trades and will stick to a strict budget along the way. 1 trade as a "fixer-upper" at this stage means I could have 3 of those players (if it becomes worth it) before price rises hit.

Who knows, maybe the rookies I have that didn't do so well are just warming up and I won't trade, but I'd like to have the option.

And yes I can bench him, I feel lucky that my bench runs reasonably deep. But I'll wait until I see full teams this afternoon before seeing if the bench option will work.

So I woke up with a massive hangover after watching my team smash Brissy last night. Logged into DT to see what my VC Gibbs scored...57 points? FMDTL

So I proceed to make a practice double trade to see if I could make my team a bit stronger (to compensate for one of my premiums spudding it up) before final lockout. Clicked complete trades only to do a massive facepalm when the reverse trades button was gone. I knew you couldn't reverse trades after partial lockout, I've looked at that text on the screen all bloody week. This is what happens when you give up coffee folks!

Spewing I've only got 122k left in the bank now. :(

Anyhoo it's not all bad I did Lake>Goddard & McDonald>Barlow. Just hope Barlow doesn't start as sub again this week or I may have to bench him. Will most likely lose some money after his first price change as well.

Ouch that stings

Ouch that stings

I was thinking of benching Barlow if he's named as sub again, but then again he's just as likely to outscore D Smith, Shiel or Hampton in a quarter and a bit, who I could start instead. Besides, any one of those 3 rookies could be subs/subbed for all we know.

I traded in Barlow as a keeper, so not concerned about him potentially losing some value early on or being a sub for another week.

Stop making excuses for your crap selections.

Barlow will not finish top 6 mids, even if you take out week 1.

People that can't walk usually lose a bit of fitness. You can't compare him to the player he was after flying through the VFL injury free.

Chuck GWS rookies on the field and hope for the best. We'll all know more about the cash we can generate soon enough.

Well having been stuck with Gray (Port Ad) due to not having computer access prior to round 1, I've had to waste a trade upgrading him to Franklin (which I would have done if I had access). Decided to do it this round so I'd have 2 to spare for next rounds cash cows.

I doubt that very much.. 52 or something last week with an outstanding display as the sub and if gets the vest again, I cannot see him getting any more than that in just over a quarter. And guys like Shiel and Dev will either have to be injured or be subbed to score less, and thats wishful thinking at best. :thumbsu: Yes he is a great player, but the reality is that he wont be top 6 in the mids. He'll make you money but wont be topping.

You made a mistake, get over it. You probably realise that Barlow will drop by about 30-40k and just want to make yourself feel better. Stop making ridiculous statements in hope of compensating....

The only trade I'm considering this week is:

Ellis/Morris OUT

Move Smedts from FWD to DEF

Milera/Hall IN.

But can I really dump Ellis/Morris on the back of one poor game?

EDIT: Or I could dump Porplyzia for the other FWD rookie. Why on earth did I pick him?
