Tackles around stoppages.

Look, I’m a Titch fan, but his inability, or lack of want, to man up on transition really cut us tonight. He wasn’t on his own, but there was some clear examples this evening using a lot of behind the goal footage on Fox.

I didn't watch it on Fox, so I missed that footage, but I think you're going to be disappointed if you're expecting Mitchell to be the guy laying tackles in transition. He's a stoppage specialist, and once we've lost the stoppage and the ball is in transition , he's never going to be the guy intercepting the opposition outside runners and laying a tackle on them. It is very difficult to cope with losing the hitouts 40 to 8. You either put more guys inside to try and counter the tap dominance, and risk getting even more burnt on transition when you do lose the clearance, or you just get smashed up front in clearances. Seems we largely went with option 1.

One player holding and the other trying to ruck but ofc the free goes to gold coast. what was worse was the replay playing and burgoyne saying something like "clearly holding hte suns player there".

I quite like Burgoyne as a commentator, but seems to be falling into the trap of going out of his way to not appear to be favouring his old team.

Finding it very hard to find a positive tonight.

Sicily was ok after being poor early.
Scrimmers when on early tried really hard…
Morrison with some cheapies out on the wing during the night kept running up and back .

Anything else I missed?

The final siren! What a shit show.

I thought we were cooked as soon as I saw them wipe the sweat off before the game even started

The conditions were foul and we just didn’t adjust to them at all. Spent all their tickets last week

No point whinging - ride those bumps with a grin. On to next week

40-8 contested hitouts to Gold coast is the stat that stands out tonight.

Hoping that Reeves is good next week and we move on quickly from this performance.

Jai was held tonight and without Jaeger we lacked some real leadership.

We looked undersized down back at times, and much slower than Gold Coast.

Callow slotted 4 and Downie a brace for Box Hill. Not sure how Worpel or Long played. Expect to see 3 or 4 changes.

Out Impey, Frost (susp) Howe Scrim (injured)
In Reeves, Callow, Long, Jaeger

Defeat is one thing, but it's only a loss if we don't learn from it.

I'm hoping there's some learnings in there, somewhere.

No autopsy thread. Not only did all our players go missing, looks like our mods have too!
Took the missus out for dinner in Black Rock, didn't see any of the game. Wasn't expecting much either, but saw the scores at different times and was glad I wasn't watching.

Suppose what they learnt tonight is that it doesn’t matter how good you were in your last game, it’s what you bring to the next and Tonight they embarrassed themselves and hopefully that hurts

Long didn’t play for BH, Morris didn’t play either

Good decision!

I wish we wouldn't comment too much on the umpiring...sure there were some weird decisions but we just got absolutely hammered - better umpiring may have reduced it to an 8 goal loss to the 13th placed side?

It was almost predictable given our ability to take it up to (and beat) top 4 sides but then really struggle against fellow struggling sides.
When the opposition plays quick we struggle. If we can match the team for leg speed we are in with a chance. Even the top teams.

We have absolutely no answers though when the opposition is quicker. We’d need to be able to win contested ball to counter it.
