Looking at that, It was purely a disgraceful decision. FFS what was the umpire thinking? Moore, in front, slid for the ball, the Hawthorn player fell over the top of him!!!
Yes and that 'fall' looked as staged as many say Gini's frees were - watch the replay and watch how careful he is that his knee makes contact.

Fly's presser

Two weeks in a row, how's the heart?

The rain seemed to change the game, with Hawthorn being more direct in the second half compared to the first half?

You mentioned the Freo game, Ollie Henry stood up again in the wet. He's growing every week.

Did you have to have a chat with him after the Bulldogs game where he struggled and next week he was the sub. How do you approach someone that has opportunities but is not converting, especially for someone so young?

Can you give us an update on Reef McInnes' injury and Jamie Elliott's illness?

You're inside the 8 and taking on the reigning premiers next week which is the biggest test in the game. You must be feeling really good where your team is at the moment especially holding on again for a close win?

What was the key area of improvement from last week despite it finishing with the same winning margin?

What's your instruction to Jack Ginnivan and there was some high contact to him in the 3rd that wasn't paid. What's your coaching message to him, should he be playing for those free kicks or not?

After the first quarter, he seemed to get legitimately tackled high about three or four times but he wasn't being paid free kicks. Do you almost feel like he's being treated unfairly by umpires?

Are you seeking clarification from the AFL?

You encourage the skill of it?

There was another instance that was eyebrow raising when Darcy Moore was penalised for taking out Sam Butler's legs despite it not looking like that at all and it could have been costly given how close the game was.

Best game you've seen from Nick Daicos so far?

Is there any injury issue in the end with him [N Daicos] as he was hobbling at the final siren?

You're 7-5. Do you start thinking about finals after most didn't have them finishing top 8 in the off-season?

Darcy Cameron likely played his best career game as well. What did you make of his performance

Do you have any plans around the FightMND cause in the lead up to the Queen's Birthday match?

Will you go to school on what Sydney and Fremantle have done to Melbourne in the past fortnight?

Are you defending better since the Richmond game?

Can you tell us how that's happening?

You were +25 for inside 50s, but nearly lost. Is that sort of connection something you will focus on heading into the Melbourne game?

Did Vossy buy you dinner?

Had to laugh especially about vossy and the phone.

These bastards will be the death of me, but I love 'em anyway!!!

Cracking win. I thought we were gone early in the last, but they dug deep and ground out a great win.

Ollie, Ollie, Ollie, Oi, Oi, Oi.

We need to erect a statue of Daicos Snr's testicles outside the AIA Centre, or whatever its called now.
The statue is a fantastic idea the sheer size of them would also provide shade for most of the training ground hehe

"Yeah, we were really pleased. You don't get a chance to really sit here and smell the roses too often. Speaking to the playing group, I just think there's little growth within us every week. That last two minutes, we dissected the last two minutes of last week for about 3 hours in lines, different areas; 1 hour each for that part of the game. To see them take the learnings from last week and execute it this week; we probably don't get the result in the end. I'm really proud of that and that's the growth we're getting. Beau McCreery's last quarter, you've spoken about Ollie Henry, Jack Ginnivan. I think everyone can see our future there and I like to think we're growing in front of your eyes".

This 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 is sensational.

These are all the things I’ve desperately wanted to hear from a Collingwood coach since 2012.

For years I whinged about how shit our coaching was. Not seeing improvement on closing out games, just seeing the same shit every week, the coach failing to address the problems in a simple way and even if we won the close ones always knowing it was dumb pure luck we scraped home.

You just don’t have a 37% winning rate from games decided by 6 points or less if you actually know how to coach players to fix their errors.

Thank you Fly. Thank you for being a sane, ego light, rational, practical and quality coach that doesn’t make it all about himself but makes it about teaching the playing group how to win.

And Licca - thank you for pulling strings and getting Fly to our club. This man is quality. He oozes common sense, has great judgment and maximises the absolute best out his playing group. Just imagine what he would have done with our 2016-2019 mid field…

I was right to call buckleys re-signing in 2017 the darkest day in Collingwood history. Never have we shackled ourselves to mediocrity like that just based on loyalty to an ex player.

But but 2018 GF… but but 2019 PF… he choked constantly, lost the close ones… cause he wasn’t a good coach. Oh and thanks Longmuire and Hocking for hiding all his failings and getting our playing list to perform to 80% of their capability. Nathan clearly couldn’t do it without you guys.

Im so happy to actually see quality rational coaching back at Collingwood as it’s in the best interests of Collingwood.

So hats off again to Fly. Coaches continue to do their job very well. He’s 2-0 in games decided under 6 points. Mr 100%. The first one was rather lucky, but the second one was based on hours of learning from the mistakes of the first.

Very impressive. Fly is a man of his word. Contested footy, territory team, higher scoring and more ins50s. He ticks every goal he publicly says he wants to achieve.

Then after reviewing the shambolic end to Carlton game, he implements positive change within a week. Teaches them all how to close out a game and they respond and implement changes. I couldn’t be happier.

We’ve not seen this since Malthouse. I’m so glad great coaching has returned to Collingwood.

Go Pies!

duck the scumps, they are incompetent, useless sacks of shit this year.

That’s all well and good, but how do you feel about the umpires? I need to know!

"Yeah, we actually celebrated his 40th game before the game to just build him up. He's a guy that I think the playing group really enjoy playing with, so we had a little bit of fun around that. His performance was something else, particularly early in the game. He's definitely taking both hands with this ruck role".

Great stuff on celebrating Cameron's 40th!

Adds glue to the team - place sounds fun again

Bet this ripples through the whole club

A guy who has been a bit down, but had an amazing day yesterday is Taylor Adams.

28 disposals, 7 tackles and 7 clearances.

Another heart pounder, another win. Love that we clawed back and sealed the deal unlike some of our losses in 2021. Bonus appearance by Jeremy Howe's little one, what a bloody cute baby, bring on 2040!

Went to the game yesterday as the young lad was playing Auskick (in the pouring rain 😂) at half time. Ended up out of my seat and up in the standing room with him on my shoulders to try and keep the family warm and dry.

As such I missed the detail on how good Mccreery's last 5 minutes were until I watched the replay once I'd driven 3 hours to get home.

He was stiff with the dangerous tackle call but... not only did he land the game winning tackle but he was just enormous for those minutes in particular. Huge.

This is reasonable.

We're more competitive with the Cox/Cameron combo than we were with Grundy grinding it out for 90% of the match.

Having said that, I'm optimistic that the side can be better with Grundy; just not as it was.

This is a good problem to have.

I think with the return of Grundy we can see close to a 50/50 split between he and Cameron in the ruck. Let's hope once Grundy is cleared to train, there is a huge emphasis on his forward craft. If he can add this string to his bow then we become an even more dangerous side. Grundy is an upgrade on Coxy and everyone needs to chill over his contract. It's out of our control and we all just want to see Grundy back playing good Footy.

Nice game of spot the idiot media person in the tweets quoted in the article. Only one sooked it up about a completely unrelated decision.
The free paid against Moore for holding Lewis at the start of the last quarter was even worse. He didn't bloody well touch him!

Hes not as defensive as others but either are players like Dusty, Petracca etc.

Listen to the coaches. De Goey's role is an attacking mid. He starts at most centre bounces and then pushes forward. His role is not to lay 10 tackles and be pushing deep into defence etc. So at times he might look 'lazy' but it's the role he's been assigned and he's quietly putting together a very good season. Plus, that goal... not many blokes launch it from 55m through the big sticks, when it's pissing down rain.

If we manage to win a few more with the current ruck set up I wonder how they will manage Grundy's return. Even Cox was giving us clean clearances which I rarely see when Grundy is rucking.

Montagna having a go at Ginni on First Crack

Hey Leigh still can’t get over 2010

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

Montagna has a genuine dislike for the Pies. A lot of it must stem from being a Collingwood supporter growing up, then losing to us in 2010.

Of all things to rag up about, he decides to have a crack at a 19 year old who is manipulating the rules to win a free kick. Have a crack at the umps Joey for missing blatantly obvious free kicks, peanut.

seriously....can those calling for conspiracy stop!

just Stop!

They will correct it.
if the blatant calls happen next week, then we can discuss it.
but its boring, predictable and irrelevant to what happened today with the hawks.

Disagree. You can't just ignore clear free kicks because a player has learnt how to manipulate the rules to his advantage.

Just watched the First Crack and yeah, Kingy was giving Montagna a lot of side-eye. And, tbh, most commentators have come to the conclusion that he's actually holding the ball in rather than playing for frees anyway. Even someone notoriously recalcitrant like Lloydy had to concede that Jack is a smart small forward who is playing the team game.

100% true that Hawks have short memories re: Poppy and #freekickhawks (I forget which thread I read that on but geez those were bleak days)

That's the thing. I think we have 3 guys who are genuine rucks. Right now Cameron and Cox are better forwards than Grundy. So it's on Grundy to add that string to his bow otherwise he's fighting for a spot in the side, if Coxy keeps up his solid work around the ground.

Cox is a poor ruck. His work aorund the ground isn't good either.

Cameron Okish starting to show more, rucks can can take some time.

Grundy has both covered by a very easy margin.

He has a history of having a crack at teenagers, IIRC.
