Can’t help but agree. Whatever McIness is, it ain’t a forward.

Yep, exactly.

Reef lacks the endurance and speed to play midfield and the combativeness and instincts to play as a forward.

I struggle to see a future for him unless he retrains as a defender. He is at the career cross-roads.

Yep, and that's one reason I don't see why we just keep rushing players straight back in after missing half the season.

Lipinski shouldn't have played for example. Use the opportunity to bring in some players who deserve it.

Lipinski is a clear Best-22 player and kicked two goals in his re-acclimatisation to AFL-level footy match. What’s wrong with that?

Always disappointing to lose, but it was going to happen sooner or later. I'd rather drop a game against a top side than drop one against a side we are expected to easily account for.

Haven't seen us that fumbly for a long time, and they didn't allow us the time & space needed to be able to avoid kicking it to May, Lever & Salem. They also killed us on the spread.

Also, only 4 tackles inside 50 against their 17 - it came out far too easily.

They were missing Oliver, but I think we were definitely more undermanned with Sidey, De Goey, Elliott & Ginny out. McStay would have been handy today as well.

Anyway, 11-2 ant the break - we all would have taken that at the start of the season. Our 2 losses have been up in Brisbane, our first game without a ruckman, and today with 3-4 players out.

Hopefully, we'll have everyone available for the Adelaide game other than De Goey & Sidey. We really should win that game.

Then why no patience with Ash Johnson?

Reef is 194cm, has played 11 games for a total of six goals.

Johnson is 193cm, has played 20 games for 29 goals.

I know which of those two I would be persevering with.

Did you check the age of those two players? I also don't see anyone asking for AJ to be dropped for McInnes, so not a very relevant comparison.

Those asking for patience with Reef, I doubt, are saying he should be playing seniors either, just not written off as a prospect.

AJ is an AFL player, but with two tall forwards in the wings, his spot is under pressure. A poor performance like today where he was subbed out ahead of McIness and Harrison, is not a good sign for him.

Frustrating game, they we're the better team.

Unfortunately Adams getting 27 just isn't good for us as a team, shows how much we need DeGoey ball use.

Adams had a decent game but those disposals should be for the better users.

Lipinksi on a flank with all the work he has done the past 4 weeks seems a waste, would be close to our best user.

We made Jack Viney look like Michael Voss today, let that sink in. That WILL NOT happen again!

Melbourne came in with a plan and it worked. Even when we tried to play quick they squeezed us in to stupid errors. Lots of players were really really down too.

We were always going to lose games along the way and it was probably the right time to lose one. Time to reset and load up for the second half of the season.

The goals were gifts. It was good he kicked them but he barely contributed otherwise.
Lipinski's performance today was infinitely better than anyone from the seconds would have been, and he now has a game in the seniors under his belt.

I really noticed our lack of front-and-square forward presence today.

So many of our F50 marking contests were spoiled from behind by May and Lever, with the ball popping to the front of the contest but we had nobody there to feast on the crumbs.

It really highlighted the absences of Sidebottom, Elliott and DeGoey. Even Ginni could have sharked a goal or two from the spillages.

You'll feel better tomorrow mate, we can't win em all.

For the record, if it helps here was our position at this point of the season in 2010:

I would have played him in the VFL yesterday and played someone who had earned it through their form today. It's not the biggest issue but it is one.
It's not an issue at all. We don't have anyone in the VFL who deserves a spot ahead of Lipinski, who played pretty well today, better than McInnes and Harrison who have been brought in ahead of our other VFL players.

Still can find a spot for AJ.
People need to realise he’s the ultimate 3rd-4th banana.
With a fit McStay, Mihocek and the addition of Elliott, that’s when he’s a danger.
I want to see this combo before we start axing..
Krueger and Reef have tricks, but not the game awareness Ash has.
Was off today, but it happens..

They certainly set themselves for this one.
Did a lot of research on our players and how to stop them. Would have involved a lot of VFL footage.
Much harder task come the return of four or five of our best.
Four or five…. About 20 odd percent of a team on the ground.
Never happy to lose, but as I stated in the pre match thread, not stressed about going down in this one.
Had they have kicked straight though it’s an almost 10 goal win to them. And that’s an issue stars out or not.
I thought our backs played well but it was coming in quickly. Besides Crisp our midfield looked one paced and was beaten at clearances. When we did it get moving our way there was not a lot up forward to kick to.

Elliott, McStay, Ginni gives us more up forward.
JDG and Sidey help us in the middle and on the wings.
