Do we take comfort in Simmo pregame saying “we’ve got Kelly and Harley coming back next week”?

Hardly the slip of the tongue revealing Kelly’s actually clinically deceased, or am I reading too much into it?

Did he? I don’t know who else comes out for Kelly then. There’s probably an injury we don’t know about I guess.

I reckon the focus needs to be on the inside mid setup. Harley will help, could experiment with Hall. Gaff and Sheed have already shown they can’t play lockdown on ball winners very well.

Will Day is going to eat us alive IMO

We will have Yeo, Kelly, Reid, Ginbey next week and then the Ryan/Brockman experiment that worked well today for our midfield.
I dont think any of those other guys you mentioned can get a game tbh

He repeated it post game and the injury report had him back this week. Sounds pretty much like Harley and Tim Kelly are back in.
Did he? Ok, my revised ins and outs then...

In: Reid, Kelly
Out: JJ, Williams

Flynn to ruck more full time with chop outs from Darling / Rotham.

The Hawks KPFs are Chol(ruck/fwd), Dear(first year player) and Gunston

Barrass to Chol, Gov to Dear and floating, and Rotham is probably a better matchup for Gunston than HEdwards

I wouldnt change any of our KPDs

In: Reid, Hedwards
Out: Jones, Witherden

Would love to see the Williams twins swap places but I can't see it happening. There was absolutely no point in Hutchinson playing for 8 minutes in this game, so he might as well go back to the WAFL.

Ruck is a mess now. I think we're probably better off playing both Williams boys than we are a Williams and Flynn combo. Given Hutchinson has only been at the club 5 minutes but presumably has the fitness to run out a match and the athletic profile to do this, I'd be up for trialing him as the sacrificial tweener ruck if we wanted to trial Flynn solo. Other than Darling in the f50 the only blokes we've trialed as micro-ruck is Waterman, Rotham and Luke Edwards. Dare say Hutchinson is an upgrade on any of those options.
I like H Edwards but we cant bring in another tall backman. Especially against the Hawks who have lots of good small forwards.

Rotham got absolutely pantsed today. Not sure why that has been ignored so much here

OUT: Jones, Witho, Rotham, BWilliams, Hutchinson
IN: Reid, Kelly, Hall, Johnston, JWilliams

Hough TB Duggan
Cole Gov Hunt
Johnston Kelly Ginbey
Ryan Darling Cripps
Waterman Allen Petch
Flynn Reid Yeo
JWilliams Maric Chesser Hall
Brockman

And geez it would be nice if Burgiel has a break out WAFL game so we could see what he looks like running the ball out of defence at AFL level.

Maybe Hough goes to Gunston?

Our Ruck situation got smashed again, bailey doesn't look great fwd atm and Flynn looks unfit af. Considering how tall we are I'd go with Bailey and have jamo pinch hit in the Ruck. Jamo replaces rotham. I'd prefer H.edwards over both jamo and rotham but with hawks fwd line no need for Harry. Thought petrol was one of our worst today so I'd swap him for harley. I like the run and enthusiasm JJ offers but he is a turnover king so he can go to Sub and tk can take his spot. Alternatively i wouldnt mind swapping JJ for hJ or hall debut.

Out- In
(Sub)Hutch- JJ
Rotham- jamo
Petrol- reid
JJ- Kelly
Flynn- Dewar

Hough Barass Cole
Jamo Gov Duggan
Hunt Yeo Chesser
Cripps Allen Ryan
Dewar Snake Darling

BBW Reid Kelly

Ginbey Witherden Brockman Maric
(Sub) JJ

I don't think it's an issue, play the best 6 defenders. I'd rather have a slow big man than a slow small man down there. Rotham plays better when there's a third tall and Witherden is out of the side. Having the 3rd tall also improves Gov's game, and to a lesser extent potentially Barrass's as well.

I mean he was bad today but probably best not to judge players on their worst games.

His kicking has been pretty good this year.

How about key stats for the year then?

In case you can't read, this is his worst season.

Would you like some more? Or do you have any to backup your view? Or would you again like to say the stats disagree with me?

He’s averaging a career high in R, whatever that is. And an equal career high in hitouts.

As we’ve seen with Hough who is apparently having a statistically worse season than last year despite being in AA contention, stats don’t necessarily mean a lot for defenders. Especially the stats you’ve picked.

How about his disposal efficiency? It’s at 80% this year, his second lowest mark since leaving Brisbane but still just below elite. And I assume that’s taking into account his 68% today.

Alex Witherden will never be a hill I die on but I think his actual defending has been much better this year.

He's not playing as a loose man anymore, he's a stopper and it makes sense that his numbers are down. And his kicking has generally been more conservative and fine.

Bit of a nothing player, who's position is borderline but I'd still say this is his best season at WC.
