Any medicos on here? How does the club measure that Dan can come back after 8 months instead of the usual longer period? What are the measurements they use?
Functional rather than chronological. He’s doing backflips on the trampoline; he’s good to go.

Markov isn’t in great form but could see his stronger body being an asset in finals. I’m not thinking he deserves to get dropped but just nervous for him.
Noble has a stronger body this year. Put on 6-7kg in the off season. Don't think thats an issue.

Both Johnny & Leggy played together all year. Noble was only dropped for finals. He's obviously worked hard over the preseason. I wouldn't be too worried about JFN.

Still a question mark if JFN can operate in a much more intense and contested finals series, not sure if his strength has improved all that much. The coaches will keep an eye on that first and foremost.

I’m starting to feel like Johnny Noble would be getting nervous. He’s had a good season but I can just sense he could be in the mix to make room for players now that we’ve found some who could make a difference at the pointy end.
I’m not hoping he misses out but all this talk of who makes way is just making me wonder.

It’s a good problem to have. Not that long ago we were gifting games to Macrae, Allan, Bytel, etc because there was nobody else available. Along the way we discovered that Harrison, Richards and Sullivan can all really play at AFL level. Maybe Kreuger too. Now the cavalry has arrived and it’s game-on for every position in our Best 23.

Having had a reco myself, the last part of your recovery is to build up stress tolerance…you can probably add the psychological conditioning to that as well. You can’t emulate a stretch of AFL games on a trampoline, or at training…next best option is a stint in the VFL but even that doesn’t compare. I’d want to see a stretch 4-5 full games at VFL level, where he’s doing everything he would normally be required to do before playing him off the bench in the AFL.

I would not be rushing him back, it’s unfair on the player and the team.

He was quite good in the 2022 final series and also played finals in first year. His forth match of AFL was a qualifying final. He’s played a total of 7 finals matches not sure he’s big worry.

I think it’s hard for us to make a call, we don’t know what tasks players are given during the game and we don’t interrogate plays frame by frame.

I suspect that even if he appeared to have a good game, ie. dashing runs, breaking lines plenty of the ball etc. his disposal isn’t Nick Daicos like, so he also needs to be strong in the contest to justify a finals spot. Finals are played differently and you need to be accountable.

That’s just me musing, as I said I don’t have the benefit of data and match tapes to interrogate. Could be something entirely different, and the coaches have no issue with his contested game…maybe it was just that Markov offered something we needed for a Brisbane match up.

Also, I think we have to take into consideration is at the time, we also had WHE playing defence.
That's not the case now.

I was thinking exactly the same as I read the posts lamenting the potential omissions of Noble, Harrison and Sullivan along with the non inclusion of Richards. It's great to be finally in a position where players performing well are still not able to hold their spot because quality players are returning.

Their CEO, Mark Evans, is claiming Victorian clubs should play their first week of finals interstate. Just because the MCC wanted the MCG for the Grand Final until 2059. Look, I get it, but maybe Gold Coast should actually make finals first, before contending where other clubs should play theirs... :drunk:

The campaigner never uttered a word when he was working for the Hawks. Funny that.

Two main focuses for me this week would be to defend much better than last week. We had a really poor patch of defending pre finals last year, we can’t afford it in the run home this year if we want to finish top 4.

Id also be weary of rushing anyone back this week who isn’t ready to go full tilt.

Hyphen's a bloody good mark as well, which sometimes gets overlooked.
That ripping mark against 2 Melbourne players that led to a goal is a great example.
He's a bloody good everything. Hard to work out why he hasn't had an even better career than his very good 200 game and counting career.

Everyone keeps naming Pendles as a likely in but the footage of him clapping one hand on his arm as Maynard was chaired off the ground last week was not a confidence inspiring sight.
"The sound of one hand clapping is a koan, a paradoxical question used in Buddhism to challenge rational thinking and provoke enlightenment. The question argues that clapping is not possible for one hand, but is a result of participation."

Always challenging the norm our ex-skipper.
