keen to get both DeGoey and Checkers back.

The sh1te we saw in the weekend doesn’t happen if Pendles was playing, hope he come back in.

Think TJ will be a great long-term prospect, and may even be a regular in our 22/23 next season, but he's clearly not fit enough to be relied upon just yet. He's only half a year into his first season but he was double-hammy cramping in the third quarter! He's first out this week.

I would be bringing Mihocek in, moving Howe and Frampton back and dropping Dean.

Kreuger stays in as ruck/fwd, it's his spot until either a) he shits the bed and we bring Dean back in and shift Frampton into that role again. Kreuger's spot (pending form) until Cox comes back.

Macrae is definitely out, he only had 6 touches in the first half and without checking, I'd say most were clangers. He was horrible. In fact horrible isn't going hard enough.

Hard to make definite opinions on the ins and outs without knowing the availability but I'd say it'll be JDG, Pendlebury and Mihocek for Macrae, TJ and Dean.

Not sure where Markov is at. Would probably rather him as sub before Reef but we'll see.

I'd really love it if Josh Daicos had a big game in a fortnight. His form this year hasn't been at the level it was last year, and really hope he just owns a wing next week.
Quaynor is another. Hasn't got started this year. Just doesn't look mobile enough. I hope he has a great game next week.
IQ will play his 100th game against GC if he is selected. Hope he has a great game.

Being rested after our bye, and replenished with some players coming back, and GC having a short turn-around of 6 days after their long trip back from Perth next Sunday, we should feel confident.

Go Pies!!

I'd keep Howe forward and keep Dean in the team. I liked both Howe and Dean - but didn't see the first quarter

For me it'd be:

Jdg, Pendlebury checkers for Reef, TJ and Macrae - Sullivan hanging by a thread.

Showed far more than Frampton and even Moore.
I know everyone on here thinks you need 10 years on the list and 200 vfl games before you play but he did fine for his role and on debut. There were far more other issues before TJ.
I agree with the complete opposite of everything you say.

Bye has come just in the knick of time. Hopefully a few players will return.
Jeez we did well to win the last two with such a threadbare midfield - and so many of the ones before that. Nick and Crisp have been magnificent. As has Howe.

In: Pendles, Mihocek, JDG, Markov and Richards

Out: Macrae, Sullivan, McInnes, Jiath and Noble.

All ins are fitness dependent of course. Pendles and JDG pick themselves over Macrae and Sullivan. Mihocek takes McInnes’ spot and Markov for Noble. I would then move the defender we’ve had forward back which has been Frampton or Howe with Richards taking that forward role.

The only debate for me is Dean v Noble. I’ve only chosen Noble because his defensive work has tapered significantly the past month and that was what cost him late last year. The efforts there, but the ability to execute isn’t. He’s only been marginally more fumbly and shaky ball in hand so that’s a small piece against the importance of defensive wins. Structurally though three talls plus Howe in defence is unusual for us so I’d be fine with Dean making way.

Nobles's form tapers off in 2nd half of seasons every year it feels like, its why I am kind of expecting Markov to once again be in our finals team over him

I didn’t really notice it last year and was blindsided by him being dropped. Once it half filtered out that he was struggling one v one I started watching for it this year and it was bad early at times v Ford yesterday. I think the iffy disposal is absolutely fine in our system, but the fumbles, going to ground and questionable defensive craft is going to be hard to overlook when everyone is fit and we flick over to finals mode.

FWIW IQ deserves to be in the conversation as well. He’s not at the level of Noble, IMO, but he’s dropped right off the past month.

First 8-10 last season he was borderline All Australian for me then rapidly fell away, I wasnt expecting him to be dropped for finals given he had never been dropped under the coaching staff but he was gonna be one of the last picked imo

I think I heard McRae say that Pendles would not play in the Gold Coast game. He said Checkers and De Goey would definitely be back, with Pendles the week after.

Unless Fly has spoken again since the presser he said he doesn't know re Pendles. I would agree that it's starting to sound like he's doubtful for the Gold Coast game.

Also in our favour is that Gold Coast will be coming off a 6 day break following a trip to WA. One of the harder trips in footy.
North the same yesterday, even though they beat West Coast. I reckon the Gold Coast have always been a bit of a bogey team, especially going up there. Hope we can give Dimma another rude shock, a la 2018 PF

I'm absolutely not bringing JDG back to play Mid.
He can replace Howe as the third tall, with checkers replacing WHE.

Play JDG in the fwd role he played against ADL.
Nightmare.
If nick is shut down, switch them (similar to what happened yesterday).

With taggers now in vogue...this actually may have a bigger impact on our structure than people think given how well Beau did yesterday.
I suspect every team by the end of the year will be employing taggers.

So if that's the case, then someone like Sullivan gets dropped and Beau takes his role.
All of this is moot at present as availability of players will determine which 'structural' players stay or go.

I’m not opposed to this if it lessens his chances of injury. Degoey has missed a lot of footy, if playing forward lessens the impact on his body then I’m all for it. He’s unbeatable 1v1

It's no co-incidence our midfield has gone to a new level since JDG got injured.
If he plays middle with Nick, he is second fiddle now.....post JDG back, i don't think he knows how to play this role.

Players have said last year it was "hit it to Jordy".....that's not the case anymore.

Also no co-incidence he played fwd / roll up high against ADL.
We need a new weapon.....every year teams win it with something different from the year before.
Someone pops up and has a career year or does something very different.

I'd be giving this a few weeks once JDG is back to see how it looks.

Changing the mids back to JDG / Nick combo is changing something that has been winning.

This was my take as well. The catch is it lands his 400th v Sydney if he misses v GC and whilst I’m not normally big on that stuff my gut feel is if it’s line ball they might navigate it to be v Carlton. Which means he starts or ends with the vest on v GC.

Ben King hurt his knee at training last week, I'm guessing he will miss this weeks game and be touch and go against us.

I must admit I am finding the idea of JDG playing a lot of forward upon return quite an appealing prospect. It would make for a really nasty group, match-up wise. Mihocek, Elliott, De Goey, Hill, Schultz, WHE and Kreuger are all interesting and different threats I50. Then we have McStay returning down the track too.

Nick, Crisp, Pendlebury, Josh, Sidebottom, + McCreery + De Goey rotating through the middle is strong. De Goey is included because he could serve as a back pocket option if our midfield starts to get beaten.

I think De Goey can go in there and replace what Finn, Harrison, Sullivan, Sidebottom etc. have been providing in bursts. We don’t even have Pendles back yet so there can’t be that much of a logjam in midfield.

Nick Daicos, De Goey and Crisp our starting three mids. All fast, damaging, and all need to be accounted for by the opposition.
