Having an elite player in the mids is what we've wanted for years and now we are better to try to stop losing than trying to win?

I just heard Hodge talking about Essendon. He said they kick started against us by playing fast daring footy and they've done a reverse of us. Won 4 out of 5 I think he said. Said they take the game on and use Hind and Redman to attack off HBF with pace. We might as well try Jones there, he's not pretty but he's quick. We'd still have Hill there for support.

I think we need to get with the times. Slow defensive games are a dinosaur and almost a liability. WCE and Geelong were the two architects of the style, one could end up bottom of the ladder the other changed to fast and dynamic and have gone to premiership favouritism.

His numbers definitely look better this year. I don't feel like his impact per possession is particularly high. I guess that's how I see Billings too, a lot of one, two short passes and low hurt factor touches. Perhaps that's sort of shown in their formula where they measure contested possession higher and inside 50s etc.

I'm just pleased that he's actually looking like another close enough to A grade player. He looked a really bad investment the last two years. I'd like to try him out of the backline at some point. I'm old school I like to attack first and defend second. It's easier to defend from attack than stand in front of the tank.

Also why I'm struggling to understand how Ratts and the coaches aren't getting us into the top 8. The side has made huge strides in player output. If Hill's around your 8th to 10th best player and guys like Billings are now outside that. I know Jack's not highly rated on here but his recent games have been good. We have guys like Battle rated 15th on the list and McKenzie and Wood outside the best 18. We should be competitive with anyone and we are sometimes.

When he tries those pretty little 20mt kicks, they very rarely are successful, usually kicking into an oppo player.

Yeah, he has had some shockers with those short kicks. Quick ball movement is the modern game. Players who hold up waiting for best options are like playing with an arm tied behind our backs. We need him to get on his bike and attack but perhaps dish by hand to guys running past where they can long kick inside 50 and bypass the slow ****ing around with the ball that we seem to gravitate towards.

I can't remember his possessions but he was good in that game. To me his disposal is never high impact but his run and carry and movement to provide options for teammates is top shelf.

I looked through his numbers this year and he's definitely got a very solid form line this year. He's really only had 4 games below 15 possessions and had 7 over 25 possession games. 3 of them 30 or above which is very good for a HBF.

Maybe he was tagged so didn't cop it from the coaches? I think that's probably why Sincs then gets 36 touches and probably why they don't want to break them up. I'd still try Jones back and Sincs in the mids. Jones was a pretty handy HBF at Sydney. You lose some quality in ball use off HB but if you have him play within his limitations that might be better because the defence will be less pressured.

I cant stand Brad Hill, he is my ultimate whipping boy because i just personally dont like completely outside players who go out of their way to avoid contact BUT...

Hes been fine this year, i cant say hed be anywhere near our best. Like Gringo said half his games this year have been 21 disposals or less and we know that he gives next to nothing without ball in hand.

6 goals (4 in one game) and i cant find his DE% but on the eye test its been down (or at least hes not giving us alot of those line breaking, zone beating kicks).

I criticize him more than anyone, i acknowledge that, but hes not been bad and if he wasnt an 800k a year player he wouldnt rate a mention but hes certainly not been good.

That sounds quite reasonable. It’s meant to be an entertainment product not a torture. Paying huge money to prop them up condones the status quo. It’s bad for business but maybe it will make them straighten up.

Seriously though, we have underestimated just what he brings to the team in terms of effort and no quarter given. His skills have improved markedly too.

Know idea on jb but my daughter was put down at birth. Just over 27 years ago. Got about 3 or 4 more to go according to my spies. Doing about 3 to 6 months backlog every year. They know they need to somehow fix it or no member will be under 40 if they don’t fix it.

I think they are starting to implement a usage rule that is designed to revoke (or minimise) oldies holding their memberships and never using them.

Since 2015, got restricted in 2020, full, in a couple. Applied in 1996. My daughter got it at the same time, and we have signed up the grandchild so he will get it around 20 ish
