Tough one to take. Phenomenal effort, kicked ourselves out of it badly, played most of it with one or none on the bench, fisted by the umps.

Still had every chance to win that entering the fourth, Freo poured a few on late against a team with less than no run.

Positives
Fight back was tremendous. Literally scored two goals with 17 on the field at the end of the third term.

Chesser worked into it nicely, Ginbey 300 games and four flags in his future.

SPS has earned a long run in this team. Even Witherden was good (one shocker aside) prior to spontaneously combusting.

Bailey Williams worked his ass off, hitout numbers I’m certainly will be shocking reading but he battled away and was part of the lift in the third.

Desire to run, carry, play on was there right from the start. We’ll take some lumps but going down playing like this is so much preferable.

Negatives
Injuries naturally the big one. Good chance for Hough, Culley, HEdwards maybe? Opportunity is there boys, who wants it.

Sheed was shocking today. Gaff started poorly but was really quite decent in that second half.

Accuracy in front of goal. Didn’t have the legs to chase down a lead all the way, would have been nice to have had that big push from a level scoreline if we could just kick the easy ones.

Ah well folks. Scoreline not reflective of the game and Freo failing to run over the top at the end there would have been genuinely concerning for them.

Gameplan looking better. Kids looking nice. We move.

A huge effort by our boys, really proud of them.

Definitely positive signs for the future.

Pros:
  • Ginbey was massive, huge game. A heap of contested possessions and never gave up.
  • Longy missed a sitter but was really clean again. A few laser like bullet passes too.
  • Hewett also missed an important goal, but tried and will be better for the run.
  • Duggan had a good one, some great chase downs in there.
  • Kelly tried all day.
  • BBBW got towelled up in the ruck, but competed and did a couple of nice things.
  • Barrass stepped it up after a couple of shocking games in previous weeks.
  • Chesser improved as the game went on.
  • Best game I’ve seen SPS play for us.
  • Hunt got a great goal, and provided some good run and carry.

Meh:
  • Gaff did some good things, including some surprising chase downs. Some poor blind kicks in there too.
  • Allen started well, dropped off late.
  • Darling also started well, before dropping off too.

Negatives:
  • Injuries, F me sideways, we must’ve broken a dozens mirrors during the week.
  • Shred. Enough said.
  • JJ had a rare poor day.
  • Umpires had a mare.

Very pleased to see we are transitioning to life post-Naita. Finally, developing a ground ball game to go with the flair/speedy outside game. At one point, we were absolutely torching them in ground ball gets/hard ball gets. Satisfied with the overall effort and endeavour from the boys today.

NEGATIVES

Umpiring was legitimately shocking.
Injuries, can't see many of the injured players coming back next week and looking like a month for Gov and Shuey.

Finishing was pretty atrocious. Allen and Darling had gettable ones early. Hewett missed a couple of crucial chances among others.

Scoreline doesn't reflect the game. Though it seemed like we have up in that second quarter once Shuey went off.

Chesser needs WAFL time. Sheed was non existent. Darling and Allen worked hard but didn't put anything together when we needed it.

Gives Simmo more excuses to keep his job.

POSITIVES

Long and Hewett look good, aside from the latter's finishing. Ginbey is going to be a star.

The effort was there all day. The final quarter was disappointing to see on the scoreboard but the lack off run is forgivable.

Gaffs second half was actually pretty decent.

I know a 40-point loss doesn't look good on paper but today was a good day. Get around the boys for how they went about it. We should have been beaten today, we were always going to be dominated in the ruck, but we fought all day with senior players going down all over the place.

No way keep Chesser in if he is fit. He started to come into the game the last half and there’s plenty to work with.

They lost their heads when Shuey first went off.

Regained composure then hung in the game with shear will and determination. Proud because if you have that never say die attitude, that is what wins you flags when you have the experience you also need.

unfortunately, shit umpiring decision resulting in a two goal turn around was too much to overcome in the last.

Go West Coast 💙💛
