I think like this too. Is it a Collingwood thing? That we couldn't possibly go on as well as we have, so something going wrong now will mean that the footy gods wont punish us later. I know its a crazy twisted line of thinking, but decades of us stuffing up haven't led to clear thought processes (for me anyway).

The player(s) chosen will get a great opportunity to show what they can do at the highest level.

We might discover depth that we didn't know we had in '23. This might be Kelly's chance to shine if Frampton rucks. Silver linings VP.

Yes, it's twisted but this is how I roll these days. :)

I'm still not sure about Kelly, but the way some players have come on under this coaching group never ceases to amaze.

I'm still bullish on him. It's hard to get a gig in the Collingwood backline. He'll come good!

The score does not reflect the reality of what took place on the ground.

The Tigers were annihilated in the first half and their "comeback" lasted the best part of 10 minutes in the 3rd.

It's frustrating to read that some of their posters are using the 14 point margin as a positive sign that they're not far off. They were light years behind us yesterday.

I fear jinxing but the defense is rock solid. Bolton, take a bow. This Collingwood team would have no fear for a full strength Richmond side. Any weather. Any ground. Any day of the week.

Concerned about Cameron & Cox being out at the same time but I'm just stating the obvious and repeating what everyone else has already said.

This is the kind of adversity that might set the side up for later on in the year.

I look forward to seeing my Richmond supporting brother-in-law today. Order has been restored.
Not frustrating at all, let them live in delusion.

It’ll all come out in the wash at the pointy end anyway with any luck.

Most of the calls I thought went against us watching at the ground seemed correct when I got home and watched the replay. There were a couple of high tackles paid to them that were wrong, in my view.
I agree. It is not what was paid to them. It was that we did not get the free when the same happened to us

What are you on about? Cotchin has a seat waiting for him as a broadcaster or a footy commentator. They've set him up for it since the start of his career so you will keep seeing and hearing him post retirement.
Hope it is on Channel 7, which I don't watch.
Cotchin is very dull to listen to.

Ling, Richo, BT - all terrible dribblers

You are right... We dominated them everywhere for no result and them being only 19 odd points down at 1/2 time. Our game plan is so dependent on our mid's gut running both ways. When it falls away at times (albeit for short periods) teams get several easy goals. The big difference between last year and this, it doesn't last long.

The 14 point margin had nothing to do with Richmond but us... As you said they were light years behind us

Reminded me of Garth not knowing the words to Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne's World 😆

Under my rule they'd be publicly stoned.

Tis' just the nature of footy that you'll have games like last night sometimes.

But as others have said, gutsy and ugly wins like that tell you just as much about the side as the good ones, as there'll always come times where conditions wont favour us nor things go our way but we'll have to learn to grind them out when they come.

And grind it out we did.

Frampton played really well - that game should give him a big confidence boost.
I don't know about playing him in the ruck.
I'd be more inclined to let him settle at full back and build on last night's performance.
AJ was great in the first half.
Obviously poor goal kicking let us down, but we fell back into bad habits a bit - long bombs into F50, kicks directly to opposition defenders, going wide, etc.
I thought we were a bit too cute at times too, especially given the slippery conditions, but we still outplayed Richmond for the bulk of the game.

In any case, I'm happy we won ugly & banked the 4 points.

Go Pies!!!

We aren’t going to use McStay as our number 1 ruck. It will be Steene with AJ and McStay chopping out. Hopefully not for too long.
It won't be Steene. Fly said we will be creative with the ruck. When asked about Steene, Fly said he wants youngsters coming into the side to be set up for success and thinks Steene is still too raw.

It will most likely be McStay as no. 1 ruck or potentially Frampton.

It was not a pretty game to watch but it was great that we can win ugly. Despite our poor kick on goal we had many match winners across the field. JDG, Pendles & Sidey were colossal at both ends. If JDG had kicked those 3 goals wowee. Maynard, Naicos, Murphand Frampton ruled HB and started many offensive attacks. Mitchell, Billy, Beau and Jaicos (after early poor disposal) were great and Crisp's running forward of centre was good. McStay was strong and Johnson and Bobby were good. We missed Coxy big time tonight. Fingers crossed for the two Darcy's. To the losers .....F**k off. I despise your club above anything

Crap game. Should have won by 50 points but a win is a win.

Richmond fans very quite now. Their time as a force has ended and collingwood is the biggest club in the league. Clearly outnumbered Richmond fans last night and that hurts Richmond fans.

I just wished we thumped them but a wins a win I guess.

On to next week and our biggest challenge v Brisbane at the Gabba die 2023. Go Pies!!

At least one Tigers supporter on their BF board gets it. He said:

“2 goal loss. If only all future opponents could be so kind to run at 30% goalkicking accuracy. Round 1 Geelong were 16 goals 2 behinds at one point. Tonight was a complete shellacking we should've lost by 10 goals. Our only good players were defenders cos that's where the ball was mostly.”

McStay might have played quite well around the ground in that final, but he was smashed in the ruck, so much so that his opponent was confident enough to try to take the ball himself from the ruck contests.

That's ok, we don't need him to dominate the hitouts, we can trust our mids to win their share of clearances. We just need McStay to play the role of the marking ruckman around the ground, and resting forward.
