Frampton is needed down back. I thought he was fantastic tonight, and l wouldn't be moving him from that key back post.
McStay is the obvious choice. He played his best final last year against Melbourne, when he played predominantly in the ruck, with McInerney out.
I would be bringing in either McInnes or Wilson to play the medium forward role. I would also use Johnson as the relief ruck.
Agreed on Frampton. Let's not start shifting too many deck chairs on the Titanic, particularly those of blokes who have only recently sat in one and are getting accustomed to the fit. When asked about his game last week, Frampton said that he didn't even have to think for himself thanks to the constant advice and direction from other players and the role he was given within the defensive zone. This is not the time to throw him into the ruck and bring someone like Kelly in to play on Joe Daniher. Let him settle, maintain the structure and give Steene a taste of the big time. It's the least disruptive solution to the problem.

At least one Tigers supporter on their BF board gets it. He said:

“2 goal loss. If only all future opponents could be so kind to run at 30% goalkicking accuracy. Round 1 Geelong were 16 goals 2 behinds at one point. Tonight was a complete shellacking we should've lost by 10 goals. Our only good players were defenders cos that's where the ball was mostly.”
He may well be the one I heard at half time.
Admitted we should be smashing them and are very impressive.

The way we're going in the bigman department, l will have fingers crossed for Steene tonight... 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Can you give some examples?

The only dodgy call I noticed was in our favour (the obvious Frampton HTB that didn’t get called).
Haven't watched the replay yet but I thought there were a few in the last quarter by Umpire No.3.

There are still many on their board who think they have us covered easily.
Their outs > our outs
They will peak pre-finals, we will fade out.
Come finals they will smash us.

I disagree on all fronts. The game stats were telling and very lopsided. We should have won by 50pts.
Anything they gain with inclusions, we gain as much. If it’s a dry game, it would look like rnd 2 against Port. And if it’s wet, our system stands up.

Murphy was an absolute beast tonight
Murphy has Howe covered already in my books.
A lock each week this kid, just gives every ounce he has and knows no fear.
We will know end of the year how good we are going, at this rate might be some younger guys starting to keep some more experienced players on their toes.
Great place to be.
How good is a Friday night win to set the weekend off to a good start!

Go Pies

from my Delorean

Had a funny Pies supporter behind me at the game.

Every time Riewoldt (6) and Lynch (7) touched the ball, he said their Sub and Super Sub are on the ground at last.

Bank the 4 points and move on.
We should have won by plenty given the amount of scoring shots (legit one too) we had. We got lucky it didn't come back to bite us in the end, Richmond also lucky it wasn't the blowout as it could have been.

DC is a huge loss, so until Cox recovers, we'll have to go with a makeshift ruck style; I'm not sure they'll blood Oscar at this point in time. He's a real aggressive competitor, but physically may not be ready. And we don't want to destroy our long term next #1 ruck.

Frampton was really great. He belongs at this level and he is starting to now believe it. Good game by the big man. Smothered Lynch haha who killed us last year.

I knew they would use Johnson in the ruck, as it's something he had done before at AFL level given his leap, it just made sense he would be the one to chop out as they wouldn't want to move Mcstay out too much -- but now that's kinda changed.
But thought Johnson's first half was really good, he attacked the ball really strongly.

The Daicos bros just do what they like.
Pendles playing like its 1999, I mean 2010.

We now move onto thursday, short turnaround.

Just rewatching the game, and Jamie was very impressive in the 3rd quarter. Kicked the steadier when scores were less than a goal.

Also ended the quarter with a nice goal to give us a boost into the 3rd quarter.

Jamie is usually very impressive and when he's not it's because he's being extremely impressive.

If ever a game was going to demonstrate that we're just on a different level this year it was this one

Played below our standard
Kicked like shit
Missing some fairly important players (including losing our no.1 ruck during the game)

Still should have smashed them by 10 goals lol

A friend of my cousin who came by our seats at half time said the same

Said they should have been dead already. It was a 10 goal smashing disguised as a 2 goal "slog"

8.15 is basically all you need to know about this game.

Our ruck situation may be a bit precarious now though!

Yep, we missed at least 5 sodas and hit the past a few times early. The game should have been done at half time. That's footy though, we won't play or win like last week in every game this season. Just have to take the hard fought wins and roll with it at times.

JDG 3 votes, he and Nick might cost each other the Brownlow.

Plus 1 for a shoutout to Billy Frampton. Huge game last night, you can tell his teammates love him. He reads the game well and is a beautiful long kick. Has a bit of a campaigner in him too which is lovely to see. Well done lad.

3 posters in the first quarter.

Ash Johnson just levels up, born to play AFL.

Although I’m a bit flat, in the space of 24 hours or so we’ve lost both our ruckman…

Johnson is such a talent, he's so laconic that it looks like he's barely trying at times. Once the penny drops he could be a genuine A grader.
