Not Keys but

I think Shuey at HBF can play the season out - then retire
Cripps should get another contract end of 2025 might only be a 12 week injury
McGovern , great player just cannot stay on the field so reduced money to 2025 , would imagine will look elsewhere if offers are good ( which they will be )
Hurn , last season still going well but retire end of season with Shuey.
Unfortunately....

For mine Shuey and Hurn retire.

No player over 30 gets more than a 1 year deal with clauses re injury / games played.

At the end of 2024 we should be hunting FA's and building a war chest to land them. Tim English for example.

I can just see Gov playing under 10 games in 2024. Cripps may come good but he isn't the future.

Where we are now list wise extending anyone over 30yrs old by more than 12 months is bordering on mis-management IMO.

Chesser -> Petch
Shuey -> Yeo
McGovern -> Edwards
Witherden -> Hough
Cripps -> Hewett
Xon as sub.

Hoping Ryan and Allen are both ok. Those changes shouldn't be too much of a downgrade on last week's team. But the Beagles will be significantly weakened unfortunately.

We aren’t beating Melbourne. Just play Hewett. He didn’t have the greatest 14 touches but still managed 14 touches in 50% game time. He was frustrating a but the way he tries to a bit too hard he’s one of those players that once he gets a slight bit of momentum behind him, he’s gonna start lighting up. Plus we played gave chess 3 games after hardly making a single in road.

Man. Tough marker. He was almost away a bunch of times. I thought it was really promising for a guy that has sat on his nerves for a whole game before coming in and then getting thrust in unexpectedly the next week when the captain has gone down and is punching out the wall hangings.

Yeah thats fair. I saw people frustrated yesterday but I think he did enough to get another go. Like you said he had a few almost moments yesterday and if he can get going early, he might actually be able to have ginbey like impact on the match

Before any other outs called Im thinking

Hurn Barrass Cole
Duggan H Edwards Hunt
Hough Kelly Gaff
Long Allen SPS
Jones Waterman Rotham

B Williams, Sheed, Ginbey

Int: Petrucelle, West, O'Neil, Clark

Sub: Hewett

Out: Shuey, Gov, Cripps, Ryan, Witherden and Darling (Inj) Chesser(Rest).

What was the injury to SPS? Been real good in the two games he’s played
Apparently has his hand in a cast which I guess means a break in his hand or maybe a finger

Could see something like below? If Rotham is fit he'd be a good option also. Clark and West deserve a shot ahead of XON.

Like the idea of Ginbey having a go at Petracca. Culley/Clark to go with Oliver. Gaff to have a run with role (maybe Langdon?).

Darling/Allen/Waterman have to work hard to keep May accountable.

Wouldn't be risking Ryan and Yeo.

Jones may have to rotate forward a bit.

FB: S Hurn, T Barrass, T Cole
HB: L Duggan, H Edwards, J Jones
C: A Gaff, J Culley, J Hunt
HF: J Petruccelle, J Darling, E Hewett

I have a morbid excitement to watch this weekend with the forced youth policy. The next few weeks will give us a little glimpse into the future, hopefully the almighty beltings we’re about to cop aren’t part of that future. Ginbey, Hewett, Long, hopefully Culley, won’t die wondering, that’s for sure.

How many games do you feel they have left?

Shuey
Cripps
McGovern
Hurn

First three potentially with bad injuries.

If their injuries are serious would you extend their contracts?
You missed one, Naitanui.

The emotional part of me says I've well and truly had a gutful of these highly remunerated but often absent 'credits' boys and can the lot of them.

The more rational part says if we chuck out ALL the oldies then we're asking for the pain that Hawks/Norf are currently going through and in the past Melbourne/Carlton have experienced.

Naitanui and Shuey turn 33 this year and just can't get any continuity. I think their time has come whether we like it or not.

Hurn keeps plugging away but he turns 34 this year and was very late to commit to this season. I'm not sure, maybe continue the 12 month rolling deal?

McGovern and Cripps are a bit younger, both turn 31 this month. It looks like they both have serious injuries but I think I'd prefer to keep them provided the price is right. In the case of the former I'd be giving his current salary a massive haircut and if he whinges...well then he knows where the door is.

Assuming
Yeo - inj
Culley - inj

Shuey- West
McGovern- Edwards
Witherden- Hough
Cripps- Rotham
Ryan- Petruccelle
Chesser- Clark
Petrevski-Seton- O'Neill

Leaves on the bench with likely 4 who aren't at all ready to play footy

L. Edwards
Trew
Winder
Bazzo
Barnett
Dewar
Baker

If you mean pain as in win / loss it’s worth noting North have won 2 from 3 and sit in the eight and the Hawks have the same points we do & just toppled North like we couldn’t. We are pretty much in that boat now anyway.

I don’t see it as pain though and personally aren’t getting emotional about scoreboard this year as we build. Just excited to see so many debutants so early and getting a glimpse into the future. Don’t mind some veterans in there for leadership on field but not missing them particularly if they can’t get up through injury with where we are at in the scheme of things right now in mind.

Hope Hough & Culley are next up and if ready later in the season would love to see Barnett get names for a couple albeit he looks a bit off that from early impressions at the minute.
