I love James Sicily.

Well blow me over
Reeves went down and I thought ****
What a great win - never gave in
Went back to how they started and played the game on their terms

Now all we need to do is stop kicking it straight to Tom Stewart

fu** yeh! What a win! Thought we ran out of legs in the third, came back strong.

Our four quarters fitness has been a hallmark of the wins to date, and even the narrow loss to Carlton. The only time we looked shot was the match against St Kilda.

So many positives from an ugly win. Up by 10, then down by 12, then 4 goals without reply to seal it.

  • Scrimshaw's touch and ability in close to keep the ball to our advantage, even when outnumbered, was critical
  • We continued to look inside for running options, even on dead legs. The risks paid off.
  • The young players (McDonald, Ward, Nash, Lewis et all) ability to stop, prop and assess and create to advantage instead of panicking and throwing it on the boot really stood out against Duckweed, Dangerflog and the throw-it-back-over-your-head-in-hope brigade
  • We put enough pressure on their F50 entries in the last to ensure our defenders weren't caught out. Sheer effort and intensity, on tired legs.
  • Nash and Kosi's ability to get the tap or nullify the opposing ruck, while getting a follow-up possession or clearance was very important. Made their rucks look slow and silly (and only cost a couple of iffy free kicks.)
  • The umpires evened out the incompetence in the last, even got a few right
  • Some class from Sicily, Breust and Gunston was nice.

But overall, the youthful intensity all the way to the final siren was the standout. Chases, smothers, getting fingers on a handball, keeping their feet, not allowing the ball to get out the back of stoppages and creating 50/50 ball from Cat possessions.

Can't take too many positives if you're a Scat fan. We had no ruckman, they didn't get enough advantage. Their two tall forwards were more worried about diving and cheap free kicks than doing their job. (By the way, great 50m penalty Hawkins, you moron. As dumb as you'll see.)

What a win. What a way to make posters like me look foolish with our not-very-optimistic previews.

We still have glaring list issues, but our effort and smarts today mean that's a conversation for later in the year.

Go Hawks.

That was fun as ****.

Weird emotions too. I had that usual Cats close game tenseness but sprinkled with a sense of “I’m ok with the result whatever happens”. I’m really just loving watching us play.

The Duke is a machine and will deserve all the plaudits he gets but I hope the world starts understanding what a jet Jack Scrimshaw is. Dead. Set. Star.
