Yeah he cops it a lot but he's the one that does all the defensive body work at stoppages to let everyone else go to work. He's such an unselfish player, very underappreciated
I can assure you he does not do the defensive work at stoppages, which is why our midfield has been so poor for 4ish years. Nash and Newcombe are our only midfielders that show defensive intent.

Scrimshaw and Mitchell were huge in that last quarter. So proud of this young team, we keep that pressure up and we win every week

Yep I lamented Mitch’s god awful dink kick on that outer wing but overall that was a really excellent game from him.

that said, i knew we'd won about 2 mins into the last quarter when Sic started taking intercept marks again

it looked like Geelong had tired and their structures were falling apart, like they did at the start of the first when we caught them off guard
The conditions certainly suited us and Geelongs old legs began to tire. Losing Reeves in the wet also didn’t hurt us greatly either.

a lot of talk about how we could lose Sic if it got us pick 3-4

i agree with the sentiment, but even beyond how good his game was today, just listening to him talk its so much different to a few years ago

he has evolved into a leader. I'm convinced he's our next captain. I don't think we should lose him

I know JOM doesn't get much love this year but watch him take Stewart out of the game in that last quarter.

Things weren't going right. Didn't sook, sucked it up and did the sacrificial team role to take their most important chess piece off the board.

That's why he's our (acting) captain.

A typical miserable Melbourne day, we’ve gone from Summer to Winter in a week, at least we weren’t in danger of getting sunburned!

1. I love hard fought, come-from-behind games like that, particularly against a club that considers us to be a rival: I hope the Cats enjoy the rivalry, we don’t even notice.

2. We conceded the lead several times, the comeback was all hard work across the whole team. I always feel the Hawks will come back, last week was an aberration. Everyone contributed, such a great team effort. And we finished with a bang!

3. Jai Newcombe is a player for the future, just needs to improve his decision making, and he’ll be there.

4. Selwood is a sad leftover of a footballer: I guess he doesn’t get the free kicks, and then has no influence on the game, and it’s been like that for a few years. I wonder if Scott will be brave enough to drop him.

Go Hawks!

us losing reeves (our only ruckman) makes this, for me, the best win we've had in a very long time

so many heroes
It evened itself out

We didn't have a ruckman for 3 quarters

And by the looks of it Geelong didn't have one for the entire game
