Not sure why running towards a player and trying to either smother a kick or putting your hands out to pressure were not options...
He was never realistically close enough to smother, his movement toward Day was to force him to dispose of the ball (or if Day tried to baulk then tackle).

He could have put his hands up but he probably still would have braced for the contact that Day initiated.

People defending paddy are delusional he was running towards day, slowed down but still dropped his shoulder into the chest and bumped him straight on. If you actually think he was just bracing himself then you are crazy and should watch it again.
It wasn't malicious, it wasn't high, but it was absolutely a bump and the kid got concussed. Two weeks seems harsh but he was always going to get a week off.
Hopefully he can get it down to one at the tribunal.

So players can no longer move towards an opposition player?

He didnt bump, he moved to pressure the ball carrier then had Day run into him. I agree it was always going to be a week but its pretty odd that we can name two incidents off the top of our heads that also should have been weeks based on similarity or head injury that werent.

The inconsistency is the issue for most.

You obviously haven't seen all the footage. Paddy wasn't in Day's path. Day changed course into Paddy.

The media and tribunal have their narrative and agenda. Paddy won't get off, it doesn't mean it's right.

Hey guy. I’m new to brisbane. Anyone know anywhere good to watch the footy around the city area? Everyone here keeps talking about some weird game where they throw the ball sideways.
The Pineapple always has the rules on.

Billings is like a bout of gastro.... absolutely shits me and when I think I'm doing hes making me throw up.

Hes gonna have to earn his spot back the hard way. I'm talking 3 weeks for 30 disposal VFL games where he's kicked 1 or 2 goals a game.

He just irritates the absolute fu** out of me. He's like a bad financial advisor. You sit there going "how much am I paying this guy and for what so he can sit there and smirk and act like he's the shit"

Before you know it ya portfolio is down 20% and he's still fu**in smirking.
I kind of agree and I was about to post something about his fit at the club now but wasn't sure where to post it.

Where does he fit in our side if the side is full Strength?

keeping in mind that Jones Higgins and Clark also have to to come back.

Forwards:
Higgins - is our best goal kicking small who has x factor traits.
Butler - our best pressure forward who is quick and can also create chances from nothing
Long - currently playing his defensive forward role to a tee and deserves his spot
Gresham - when down there is a match winner and with our mids playing well and Jones and Clark to come back im sure gresh will spend more time forward.

Wing:
Wood - Our fittest wingman who also provides a marking option and works hard to help the defense and forwards (currently playing his role)
Dmac - Ultimate role player who does the defensive stuff and is playing his role
Ross - Having his best season since his B'n'F and finding his role in the team as the defensive-first minded wing
NWM - growing each week and although his output currently isn't better, his skill is already better than JB's

I'm not currently dropping any of those for vanilla JB who is also not quick or known for his defensive pressure.

I think you're right. He's going to need to have a good solid month of VFL form before I consider bringing him back in. He needs to be either A) Kicking goals and being a real threat or B) working hard defensively whilst racking up a decent amount of footy to be a chance to come back in.

As I said earlier, if you arms are out to tackle or to smother the kick, you can then move your hands out to the oncoming player to slow him down and reduce the impact rather than sticking your shoulder out at a player coming at full pace.

Whether you think Ryder could have got to the smother or not, he still could have attempted to get your hands near the footy, which is always going to put pressure on the kicker.

Ryder clearly had other choices and the one he went for has landed him in trouble.

Billings is not the best player going around but he is definitely better on a wing and gives more than wood. I would make the swap every day of the week

Wood's 192cm has come in handy many times in just a few matches, most of which he doesn't get a stat for, but I've noticed him floating across many times. He also has significant pace and most importantly is match fit.

Billings does pass him but not immediately first game back, more likely to lose NWM which no one wants to see happen

"It wasn't high", but we are the crazy ones?? Basically saying Ryder took the precaution to not hit him high which has been the narrative for at least 5 years. So not malicious and not high sounds like a freak accident, Ryder is a footballer, he's not expected to calculate the probability of a concussion based on not high knock. Why even take the field?

If we are punishing innocent acts that end in concussion then the Higgins tackle should be a suspension (I also defended that and said it was no case to answer)

This wouldn't be a talking point and all would be accepted if it was a remotely comparable sentence.

Why exactly is bracing for contact that Day initiates by slowing Day down with his hands Paddys responsibility?

Youre saying he should have extended his arms which is fine but its not like you must do that to pressure a player, alternately putting your arms out doesnt mean you wont still brace for impact.

Short of not going to force Day to dispose of the ball (which is a pretty silly suggestion) nothing youve suggested would have changed the outcome.

Shut up.
If you’re gonna get this worked up about defending the chook lotto maybe get your facts straight. “It was high” yet high contact is what counted into their ruling.
Absolute farce for paddy and the game.

There is nowhere that says being high is relevant except in the severity of the punishment length.
If you choose to bump and the other player is concussed you're gone. Paddy chose to bump and day got concussed. He's gone. I don't personally don't like the way the match review panel operate and assess these things, but according to the rules he was always buggered
