How? What do you think he was going into that situation to do?

I mean when someone’s running towards you with the ball I would imagine your main thought would be to try and tackle him (if he keeps holding onto the ball), to smother, if he kicks it and you’re close enough, and these days especially a distant third would be to bump him.

And I have no reason to think he went into that situation planning on bumping him, but once Day kicked the ball and tackling was off the table, and he wasn’t close enough to smother and that was off the table, and bumping isn’t really allowed in that situation any more, I think he just did about all he could, which was to try and stop, to avoid a big collision, and to turn to protect his chest- which would just be an instinctive move for almost anyone to make, when they see that someone’s about to crash into them at speed.
That's not all he could have done at all

Get yourself in a position to tackle. If he gets rid of the ball your hands are out to protect yourself. He then could have quite easily just placed both hands on him to slow the impact down.

You stick a shoulder out to a fast moving player there is a chance you are going to get him high and cause damage.

Call it a bump or a check but that's the action he chose to do and it wasn't his only option.

Completely ignoring that Day accelerates into Paddy (including a little step to get more square with him).

Paddy chose to pressure the kicker, pretty well everything that happens after Day chooses to kick is actually on Day. If hed done what 95% of players do after that sort of kick (steady and then move to the next contest) Paddy probably doesnt even touch him.

It is what it is now regarding Paddy.

I just want to see consistency moving forward.

We haven’t seen consistency to this point just last week with English.
If they weren’t consistent with that on Paddy’s penalty, why on earth would you think they’re going to become consistent now?

I've gotta admit he starting to lay on the charm like an ex missus rocking up to your door with a brand new car and 7 figure income

Suddenly she's looking mighty nice again

Sorry bud, I’d leave the analogies to @Gringo….he’s the master.
😉

I know that’s a joke, but even if he’d tried that they still would have collided at decent speed and they probably would have clashed heads
Yeah, I think it's becoming a bit of a pissing contest between Whately, Robbo, Lyon and King to see who can be the most hysterical about head contact.

Players trying to get to the contest can't be expected to know for sure they're not going to make it. They're going to get to points of no return where they either stop or carry on.

If they make every effort to stop, they should get no more than a week. Repeat offenders could get an extra week each time.

Witts had 42 hitouts,. More than Ryder/Marshall combo against the hawks. Ryders leap would have been handy to get to the taps but now get a feeling that Marshall is going to give away a handfull of ruck freekicks, think he had a few in round 1.

On the plus side, our mids are going great and better than it's been in a decade
Steele has now settled
Ross is flourishing by not having to be more than he is, which ironically makes him more than he was
Gresham is back and will only get better
Crouch seeing good form and looks a ton more comfortable this year like he understands his teammates more (good chemistry)
And now the outside players are using the ball more cleanly.

I'll admit, I don't know much about the gc mids aside from them being young and having immense potential, they will be great real soon but on current form I think we have them covered

I hope we challenge and get his ban reduced to one game, but it’s pretty clear that Paddy ain’t playing this week.

So that leaves either Hayes or Campbell. Any other week I would have Hayes in without a shadow of a doubt, but Witts is a monster, and we’ve seen Marshall struggle with the monsters in the past. Campbell is in pretty decent nick apparently. Do we bring Campbell in in order to nullify Witts as much as possible, or do we back Hayes and Marshall to have an impact around the ground?

Genuine 50/50 call for mine.

If Higgo returns you’d think it would be for someone who was playing mainly forward, which pretty much means it’s likely to be out of Windy and Long.

And I think we’d be very happy with what we’ve gotten out of Long the last two weeks, so Marcus looks the most likely choice.
Long has brought the pressure without the free kicks against. Averaging 0.5 a game. Really hope he doesn't make way considering he has hit the scoreboard. As long as we don't swing him back into defense, with Paton back I'm hoping that experiment is dead.

Yes it's all Days fault...

Pressuring the kick would have been sticking you arms up, trying to get a touch on the footy or at least making the window to kick into smaller.

The way Ratts spoke about Long the otgwe dat he's now a full time forward

He's brought a lot to the side with his pressure game. I like having both he and Butler down there.

Spots are going to get very tight as we get players back but I can't see how he wouldn't get a game this week.

The AFL have created another mess.. When the outcome of a player either being concussed or not dictates the verdict you've opened a MASSIVE can of worms.. In 3 weeks we've seen English, Rioli bump a great deal harder than Paddy's though Paddy get's 2 weeks due to Day's lack of awareness..Paddy came at him front on what the hell was Day doing..

Didnt say it was all Days fault but your implying its all Paddys fault.

In truth Paddy making the decision to go toward Day (arms up or not) is pressuring him, if he didnt, if he just followed his opponent Day just waltzes through the middle of the MCG. Just encroaching on the space is pressuring him.

Again, ive said for a while i fully expected him to get a week (regardless of the fact i dont think it actually deserves it) but trying to say this makes sense cause of MRP process and logic is horribly flawed.

It gets two weeks cause MC has decided it does, no precedent or logic.

High Pressure teams wins a great deal of games & bridges the gap between teams like we saw on Sunday between the Swans & the Roos.. What Long brings to the team is significantly more than the average 10 disposal game another player would provide..Defenders have less time to hit up targets when they sense Longy is bearing down on them..

He could have caught him in a big gentle caress. Not a tackle, more like a soft, brief hug. That would've been a nice moment.

Christian has demanded players change their techniques:

Do we even consider playing both? It worked against Richmond with Ryder, Marshall and Hayes so would Marshall, Hayes and Campbell go ok?
