Yeah as I said, there are signs that we've gotten it on track but it's not proven. I'm happy with how all those players are going but it's still their potential that excites us, rather than their proven performance (aside from Wilkie who is consistently very good).

My point was in response to conversation about McCartin so it's a bigger spectrum that the last three or four years. I understand why people get frustrated at the club's drafting over the years. I'm happy with how it is tracking at the moment though so I don't mean to sound pessimistic about the current batch of young players.

There were 2 absolute howler drafts in Trouts time. Getting 3 first round draft picks and losing players to pick up Paddy, Hugh G, Mc Kenzie and Lonie. And the Acres/ Dunstan draft. We took Billings who is good but sat in between Kelly and Bont and then Acres, Dunstan and Curren. Not getting at least one genuine gun out of three chances is incredible. Especially after giving up Big Mac who they sold as our future captain.

They are shocking lew
Worst ive seen for a long long time

So in saying that we should play them into form and lose by 3 goal

Tex might come back apparently. Expect him to kick 6 goals and turn back into a squashed lemon next week.

Well we had a Russell Morris and a Stephen Cummins in the past
"Ronnie" - guess he must have got the nickname from Ratts - he'd be the only bloke in the group old enough to remember the original Ronnie "Burns" who is a mad keen Saints fan himself.

Sheedy always said draft number didn't matter, its what you do at the club once you are on the list.
From reports Byrnes is exceedingly professional in his approach to training and preparation, coupled with reported good form in the scratch matches.

As someone remarked a good effort for a mid 50's draftee to get a gig after only 6 rounds. Shows the reports on him on and off the field are accurate.

Good luck young man
Thanks Joff , i will claim that ;)

Come on man, this is heavily revisionist.

Billings was the absolute standout best 3rd player in the draft at that point and has shown how good of a player he can be. The question only comes up because of Bontempelli and Cripps both becoming exceptional inside players where its way easier to win the popularity contest.
Dunstan was showing a hell of a lot in his first year and clearly why he went at pick 17 for starters. He has been inconsistent as **** but has played a lot of pretty good footyball in his time as well. Hardly a waste at that pick. Acres was more of a gamble and frankly he still is kind of average now but you cant win them all.

McCartin and Goddard both had their careers ruined by injury which is hardly a drafting issue. Lonie was playing excellent football up until his knee injury last year and isnt in great form at the moment but hardly a lost cause at this point. Mckenzie is really the only one who hasnt lived up to where he was taken in the draft.

Byrnes had really good possession numbers last year, averaging 25.4 in the TAC Cup.

Wonder if Bytel would be feeling pretty flat, hasn’t performed to the level or Byrnes in the practice matches but hopefully he’s got a strong head on his shoulders.

Bytel will get his go.
Didn’t play the whole of last year though, so he’s obviously behind “Ronnie.”
I’m excited. Always great to see a debutant. ( uh, what number is he 🤣?)

Because it was being widely reported at the time? Including a quote from Pelchen that the offer was there.

What's reported and what is fact don't go hand in hand. There's also no direct quote from Pelcan stating GWS offered us pick 4 & 7 specifically is there? All he said was that they have been offered picks inside the top 15 only. That could be combination of so many different scenarios . Perhaps that's why picks 4 & 7 were mentioned at the time? Just throwing darts.

In before monty byrnes only has 7 lousy possessions and we all want him delisted.

Wash your mouth out. He's going to make Seb Ross want to start looking for a new job after Monday. 40 possessions and 8 goals from a back pocket after we try to find new and more intricate ways to stuff another kid in the backline where he isn't needed.
