Gray's match-winner breaks Blue hearts after the siren
Robbie Gray boots a goal after the final siren to give Port Adelaide a three-point win over Carlton
With Carlton leading by three points in the dying seconds, Gray marked the ball hard up against the right boundary line.

The final siren sounded.

From 45m out, the veteran forward calmly threaded the needle to give his team a 9.10 (64) to 9.7 (61) victory at the Gabba.

Carlton looked winners in the last quarter and Port Adelaide did its best to lose, with Charlie Dixon, Gray, and most notably Todd Marshall from the top of the goalsquare all missing simple shots just moments earlier to hit the lead.

The victory keeps Ken Hinkley's men one game clear of Brisbane at the top after seven rounds.

So the AFL community has an asterisk against PAFC for being top of the ladder with a record 6-1 and we haven't beaten anyone of note.

Well let's have a look at the challenges we have faced.

We have played 6 out of 7 games in Queensland. We've had to fly in fly out at rediclous times the last two weeks. It would be understandable that our players would be tired, flat and sore with a compromised preparation and recovery process.

Our only loss was by an Lions outfit who have played on their home ground 4 games in a row which coincides with our last hub game after being away from home for 3 weeks.

We have not set foot on Adelaide Oval since round 2 and I dare say that the AFL will not be so kind on giving us a run of home games now due to our win/loss record.

We've faced more challenges this year than any club. Only played at home once. Had to stay away from SA for a number of weeks. Now we've had this FIFO early morning travel bullshit for two weeks in a row. Subjected to the usual shit umpiring. We've kept winning. If Richmond were in our position, having beaten the same opponents, we'd hear no end of bullshit about how brave and resilient they are. The AFL community can take that asterisk, and insert it in its collective rectum.

I think what I'm pleased with is we have so much improvement in us if we can get experience into kids to pass the baton when westhoff and gray go.

Rozee is in bad form, Motlop in bad form, gray in bad form, westhoff in bad form.

We cant carry forever but we are doing well at the moment.

Boak will decline soon too. So we need to be balancing planning for the future with results.

At the moment I feel like we could get more out of Mitch G than Westhoff and Bergmann/Williams over Motlop/Gray.

Wines is the hard one with what we do there.

A quick cheerio to Mick Malthouse, following his assertion this week that this year's premiership doesn't mean anything (or words to that effect). Hey Mick - look at the Port players celebrating after today's game, and tell me with hand on heart that that win meant nothing.

What an amazing win. We have been accused of being front runners in the past but that win was anything but... another early wake up and fly in, Carlton playing well and had all the momentum, 2 men down (Burton was playing so well too), deflating misses, but we just kept going until the very end to get in front! Horrible misses by Charlie and Todd, but what a kick by Robbie.

Butters mark on their goal line with less than 2 mins to play was huge too.

Ladhams is a massive talent!

That was a heroic win. Everything was set up to mythologise Carlton but we tore up the script.

Two weeks in a row with 4am starts to the day, travelling to Queensland for a lunchtime game. We were running on fumes in the last quarter, quality injured players on the bench, could barely raise a gallop in the last 10 minutes and still created 3 gettable goals.

As is our way we fluffed the easiest chances and slotted the toughest. And so the legend of Robbie Gray grows.

what a kick, what a player - good to see there are some teams who are still playing highly watchable footy! well done, so exciting but naturally we are shattered! good luck in the finals.......

Before this season started, I had predicted the Blues to make the 8. I stand by that now. Good enough and getting better all the time.
