I dont know if Dixon or Finlayson will be back for Port

Finlayson was suspended for three games, so not back.
Dixon was only out "managed", so you would strongly suspect that he will be back.

and Cordy hasnt done anything wrong,

Cordy has no spoiling skills. And Battle and Wilkie are more your intercept types who always try and mark, plus they prefer playing a bit wide.

We need someone tall with Howard's very good spoiling skills.

but I think we need to find a way to get Howard back into the side.

I would select him.

I just think that he works in very well with Wilkie and Battle.

Some people have compared Pou to BJ's early days and I think it's a fair comparison - it also raises the question - what position or role does he end up with ? Fwd/Mid ? Mid ? Utility ? I don't know.

That may of been me when I made a post on Pou and BJ, and got criticised by many for not hailing Pou as our next elite mid which seemed to be the majority sentiment at the time.

I think the two have a lot in common. Biggish players with a lot of skill and talent, but not much pace and who have no obvious position early on. BJ eventually found his way. Hopefully Pou will too. I am still not convinced it will ever be as a full-time mid though.

Getting King back only matters if we clean up our delivery and also get it down to him and our forwards more often.

Disagree in that I think that a large part of our problem this season is playing an undermanned team (with our injuries and suspension we had no choice) and this has forced us to have up to 7 young players in the team at once.

I am all for playing young players to develop them, but 7 is a bit of a tipping point and morseo when the team has many key players out at present. If we had all/most our best players in, then you could carry more younger players. But a lot of younger players mixed with more GOPs than you would like leads to the highly variable team we have seen this year.

We need to get more of our first 22 back, one of which is King. This will make us not only more competitive in terms of winning more games, but it will also by doing that provide a much better learning and development environment for our youngsters.

I think so too, he's actually one of the best at delivering the ball to our forwards as well.
Agreed. His kick to Higgins running into an open 50 a few weeks ago a a thing of beauty. Higgins didn't even need to break stride.

Getting him around the ball and utilising his foot skills will only make us a stronger team.

Yeah I agree with you but young players or not young ones we do need to fix up our delivery and give our forwards more opertunity.

My comment was kind of directed at those who I know will blame King if he comes back and struggles because he's not getting any delivery.

Would also try Stocker there, our problem is getting the ball first cleanly, he had 3 clearances against dogs when tried there.
Could happen more when Webster is back.

Edit: See I’ve parroted you BrutThough. Great minds etc etc 🤣

That’s why we need both Kings…one to deliver and one to lead and mark inside 50! 🤣

It's important to know Cordy's strengths and weaknesses.

Avg 2.3 defensive 1 on 1 per game
Defensive 1v1 loss rate 21.4%
Tackles 2.2 per game

It's actually not far off Howard last year at 3.2 and 22.4%, but Howard with 0.8 tackles per game.

I'm warming to Cordy. He has had a great year (for him) so far.

Here is an idea. I've watched Sandy games and practice matches and I am convinced the best set shot for goal at our club is currently a first year player who may not even play senior footy this year - Collard.

He should be taking goal kicking training - give him another $20K in a brown paper bag for his footy IQ.

Just finished reading the previous game autopsy thread. Wow. Go to say, so much of that was as bad as sitting there until the end of the game.

Anyway a game of footy coming up so I'm moving on.

Port gave up 31 (14.17) scores to 12 (6.6) in 3 quarters yesterday. Why are they going to be more "angry" than our players to bounce back from a poor performance? I don't buy that one at all.

We have players that play Adelaide oval well. We're not on a local footy ground thank goodness. Can see us losing in a few goals type of game because they are more advanced than us but reckon we will have our moments that they'll be concerned about what we bring.

Very interesting to see the ins and outs and if it's only minimal (Butler replacement) until blokes have played a VFL game and drip feed them in over North and Hawthorn or big bang against Port as a line in the sand type reaction to some of the efforts on Thursday.
