this is all just "come on guys, you're Port Adelaide, just be happy finishing 3rd, out of EIGHTEEN that's CRAZY"

Reminder that Hinkley Era Port rubs shoulders with:

• The smallest ‘heartland’ club

• The least successful ‘heartland’ club

• The only club to cop a global sanction

• The club set back over a decade by salary cap breaches

• Australia’s professional sporting black hole

Unlucky, Ken. Unlucky.

An opposition supporter comes in here with a “come on guys, be reasonable” approach when you only have to point out the coach is ultimately responsible for performances and we haven’t performed when it really counts. And he’s had a record amount of attempts at correcting it.

I would say yes it is Hinkleys fault as he hasn't made kicking accuracy and goal accuracy one of the priorities at training, goal inaccuracy has happened in every port finals game since.
That's the thing which irks me the most about all the Hinkley bashing. None of you guys are ever critical of your own players

That's normally what most fans have to face up to when our teams fall short. (Unless we can play the 'injury excuses' card or bag the umpires.) Once it's the cold light of day and all the excuses have run out, we have to deal with the fact that maybe we overrated a few of our "star" players and that we simply weren't good enough.

But the "Sack Hinkley" Mob have neatly side-stepped ever having to deal with this unpalatable truth.

After every loss, they just blame their coach :D

"Our blokes are the BEST PLAYERS in the AFL!! They're all CHAMPIONS!!! We just have a shit coach.:("

Weird how the list has gone through so much change over 11 years and all the same issues remain. Boak is literally the only player left from before Hinkley started.

No no, he has a point. Nobody has ever been critical of Tom Jonas, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Todd Marshall or Connor Rozee.

I'm curious what you mean by this sentence. It's difficult to decipher. Are you saying Ken and the Port admin are overly defensive when their performance is scrutinised by fans & media; and they are too quick to brush off any fair criticism as agenda-driven "hate" ? Is that the gist of what you are saying here?

...

Richmond people try to instigate a board spill many years ago

'well that's their right, they failed in finals and choked, they want the club to be better'

Collingwood fans stage some sort of protest more recently

'can you blame them? Collingwood is a big club and they expect success'

Port fan question historically unprecedented coaching tenure, put a sticker up

'OUTRAGEOUS, IDIOTS, DISRESPECT, DONT LISTEN TO THE WHITE NOISE'

Sure... I don't doubt the negative, whining, fickle element of Port fans within your group put the boot into various players after every loss. I'm just talking about the over-arching criticism that comes when all the emotions have settled. The stuff you bang on about days later... The lingering criticisms you have now when you reflect on your finals fade out.

Was it Hinkley's fault that Butters, Rozee and Powell-Pepper were sub par in the semi final loss to the Giants?

Was it Hinkley's fault that Dixon and Finlayson gave you nothing this September?

At what point do you give it a rest about the coaching and put it on the players?

the coach [who] consistently takes his team to the top 4, but can't take the next step
I'm sure this is just a dumb attempt to troll as 3 times in 11 years isn't consistent (nor a measure of success in anyone's book)

There's a nice big slab of not winning finals for 5 years in a row, that's consistency

A coaches job, what they are remunerated extremely well for, is to have their best players primed to perform in big games.

Our last 3 finals we have lost by a collective 142 points. At what point is the coach responsible for this?

Just to clarify, which of the 102 players who have played under Ken while consistently showing the same traits of not showing up in big games or playing as more than the sum of their parts are you talking about?

You must be right it must take luck, amazing that we've seen the same stuff from 102 different players from all different backgrounds. We are just so unlucky.

So now you’re pivoting to just making things up? Thanks for confirming everything you say can be dismissed outright.
Righto...

I probably shouldn't use superlatives like "none of you ever bag your players"

I should've simply said, "It's weak as piss to blame the coach for all your team's failures when the reality is most losses can be attributed to mistakes from your team's spuds plus the failure of your team's star players to bring their best"

(this applies to all teams)

Trolling or not, why the f#%k are we the only supporter base portrayed as irrational ingrates who are unappreciative of this jagwagon and should be eternally grateful for the bowls of gruel he serves up?

“Was it coach-x’s fault that player-x couldn’t do a particular thing?!”
