Kane's always said a GF is the minimum expectation.
He's said a lot of things that he's walked back later or shifted the goalposts on.

He said a few years ago that it was GF or bust for Ken, then defended Ken when he failed to take us to a GF. Kane knows Ken isn't worth a pinch of shit, he's just saying things to drive engagement and clicks.

I don't mind Kane as a whole, but he can't be trusted with any of his takes regarding Ken, he is far too conflicted. He 100% said it was GF or bust prior to the 2022 season and then we didn't even make the finals and he still kept defending him.

I'm liking the suggestions that Ken will be gone in the event of a straight sets exit next week, but I don't believe it. Under this regime making finals = success and entitles Ken to continue as contracted. And if we have an unlikely win he'll be lauded like the second coming for getting the side up after such an atrocious loss. Either way he's here next year and frankly, if we make finals next year I'll be expecting him to get another extension unless he himself decides to walk away.

Can we get a better and more appropriate title for this thread with a bit of a laugh or something weird about it?

Sack Hinkley 12 - 2024 Goodbye (To 2025) New; Coach Discussion

Imo the best/most likely outcome for a Ken-Sack and maybe heat on your own board is if Hawthorn win tonight and knock Port out next week.

Sam Mitchell a young, ambitious and ruthless coach getting his young Hawks team in a prelim final after starting his coaching tenure with Hawthorn several years behind Port Adelaide would be the ultimate embarrassment to your proud club and intelligent and passionate supporters

Look we all know flags are very hard to win in an salary cap/equalised league, but Port constantly being crapping the bed in finals is just unacceptable, despite Ken being a so called good guy.

He probably survived coaching so long cause he is so buddy/charming to the media. He is quite a manipulative old rodent too (the tears he shed after the Saints win at Marvel a few months ago) which then led to Caro Wilson writing a somewhat sanctimonious article about Hinkley's mental health (which whilst I agree all coaches need support with MH issues, its the insinuation that Port fans are to blame/villians for it which rankled with me)

Same applies to other journos who said Port fans own Ken an apology.

It really strikes that the proud and passionate Port Adelaide supporter base is being character assassinated and made to seem like cruel, heartless bastards because of the cult of Ken Hinkley's supporters in the media.

It’s sad that this is their view. This is the time for the board to show leadership. The only (slim) hope we have of winning it this year is if we do something radical today. Throw this ****wit under the bus, talk to the players about what a fraud he is, apologise to the playing group and the fans, and plan for a full-hearted response for next week.
Ken coaching one more game has no benefit at all. None. He needs to go today. Not sacking him because we are still in the finals is weak.
You could install Wooden McSpoonface as coach for the next final and get a better result than Hinkley purely from the dead cat bounce.

I say give it a go.

Maybe we could ask Chris Scoot to come in and tell our bellends what risk and reward is;
Sack Hinkley; high risk high reward
Keep Hinkey; low risk no reward

As a non-Port supporting ally to these threads, I find no joy in coming back here for a visit, but know from reading the analysis that you lot know your footy - especially after what you’ve been put through.

This whole saga has shown just how much of an afterthought fans of our sport are.

And if it can happen to a club like Port, you know the sport is in trouble.

A club built from working-class people that for decades showed the top end of town through football that, given opportunity and an even playing field, they can be better and more innovative and ruthless then them.

But, through the sustained attack on Port fans that has happened by the media for years now - an attack that has sadly not seen any serious resistance from the club - we see exactly where the AFL, the media and the clubs see fans in the pecking order.

Port fans saw through Hinkley a long time ago for the fraud he is. They have literally been saying for a decade “this guy will beat up on teams in the home and away season, but his limitations come to the fore in finals”.

The fans have been proved right time and again.

What do they get from the absurd coaching protection racket that is our media? Constant ridicule. Questioning loyalty. Taunting when Hinkley wins in the regular season. Gaslighting about the list not being good enough. Questioning “who you gonna get” when there are ex-Premiership players like Kingsley impressing as assistants

If the AFL media did their job of analyzing the game instead of protecting coaches like Hinkley, he would have been gone long ago. Fans would understand tactically he isn’t up to it. But there’s next to no serious analysis of tactics from the media of this sport.

And all this from the media for what? Ken ****ing Hinkley of all people?!

I remember reading a great quote on here about Hinkley. It was something like “the extraordinary thing about Hinkley is the media have built a cult of personality around someone that has no personality”.

Sums it up beautifully still.

It’s a sporting tragedy the way Port fans have been gaslighted by the media. The club has sadly not stuck up for the fans either and it makes me angry as a non-supporter.

Last night, seeing the narcissist Kenny giving his pre-match address, with his weird walking style and finger wagging, I knew he would get in the player’s heads and **** up their mindset pre-game. Narcissists like Ken can’t resist meddling as they have delusions of grandeur, even though i have no doubt that any success they have in the regular season has zero to do with his coaching input, it is always about reactions to things which aren’t sustainable.

Come finals time? Ken gets a big head, gets smoke blown up his arse and the narcissist part of him tells himself that it was all down to him. And he ****s it up over and over. He is a cancer.

For me, this whole shitshow is emblematic of what our sport has become. And how pathetic the AFL media really are.

Great analysis mate. Unfortunately, the way we’re going you’ll be back here in 2030 posting on the Sack Hinkley 93rd edition thread.

I see the maestro has implored fans to "stick with us".
We've been doing that for the past 12 years.
Enough is bloody enough.
Time to grow a pair and make some tough calls, or we face another decade of oblivion just trying to re-build the castle from the rubble.

Just relistened to my call to Finey on SEN last night and he said this to me.
“Bruno, not much I can add. You had the floor and you wiped Ken Hinkley with it”
Not to toot my own horn but I reckon he was right.
You can listen to the call from about 9:30 on this link:

Well done Bruno from Hardfield ... er .. Hadfield.

Ken is just one name. If we had to stick posters with all the names I’d want out of the club, that board wouldn’t be long enough
Anyone have a link to this article? Sorry I can’t find it not being lazy.

Meh. It'd be nice to think Hinkley won't be at Port next, but unless West Coast are stupid enough to take him, so Koch can spin it as 'Ken wanted more years then we could offer, blow jobs allround for the fine job he's done though!' he's staying.

Unless Koch goes and someone new (and willing to) ditches Ken, it's long established he won't let his ego be dented by having to sack Hinkley and admit he was wrong. He's the investor with the sunk cost fallacy writ large (the irony for the 'finance guru'), he'll just keep throwing (Port fans) good money after bad, in the hope one day, somehow, Ken gets a flag and he can tell everyone he was right to stick the course.

The "Ken doesn't have the cattle" argument is just so laughable. Fact is, you could go through every premiership team of the last 30 years and find a mix of A-Grade talent and honest toilers or role players. No club on earth will ever go out there with 22 A'-Graders. It simply isn't possible with such a thin pool of elite talent nation-wide. It's the good coaches who turn those honest toilers into premiership role players that complement their stars. That is what separates those coaches from the Hinkley's of the world. Hinkley has more than enough elite talent at his disposal, and has had so over the entirety of his tenure. He's simply found wanting when it comes to managing the players who require the most management, plain and simple.
