Yeh. After the AGM I thought his appointment would be OK even though I thought Butters was a way better on field leader. But I was wrong. This guy oozes soft. He has no idea what it takes to lead a team to a flag. Typical Port appointment.

Think we all know Butters was prob offered captaincy and turned it down,then only extended his contract until free agency.

It’s genuinely wild how they perceive their situation compared to ours, whenever sob stories are exchanged.

Disparaging Nicks like we disparage Hinkley, when the Crows have nailed barely 3 first round picks in the past 15 years (either at the draft or via trade).

There’s a reason Ben Keays is currently their equal best player, and it’s not because Nicks was mismanaging the likes of Ned McHenry, Chayce Jones and Matt Crouch.

God their list is absolute dogshit. Just good honest triers apart from the forwards. Getting beaten by them 80% of the time should see Ken Hinkley in prison, but for some reason he's employed as an AFL head coach.

Soft frontrunner is the style of player you're thinking of. A classic Geelong handbagger and the whole club stayed that way until they employed the guys who were later responsible for the biggest doping scandal in Australian history, but apparently it didn't happen at Geelong despite them being bigger, faster, stronger and all having receding hairlines.

It's also interesting that no Crows players (unless I've missed it) have pledged their undying love in the media to Matthew Nicks. It's either because he's a total scumbag and they hate him, or they see it as a pointless exercise.

This decision is more on the club and they are the ones we should be angry at, but I can't help but look at this in the context of Hinkley's long career of me-first behaviour.

Doesn't take responsibility for our performances, throws the players under the bus.
Has set a gameplan that caps out at making finals and is fine with it because it keeps getting him new contracts.
Kicks the accountability can down the road at every turn, shifts the goal posts and hides when he can't deflect.
Stood out of football for a season to force Fitzroy to trade him to Geelong.
Has admitted that footy isn't that big of a deal for him these days but is still employed as an AFL head coach a decade later.
Doesn't seek to improve or challenge himself, surrounds himself with yes men and forces out people who will challenge him.
Contacts and admonishes people in the media who are critical of him.
Leveraged the Gold Coast offer for a big new contract at Port.
Leveraged the COVID rules to lock himself in for longer.
Utilises his friends in the media to disparage the fans and the players to protect him at all costs.
Flat out does not accept any criticism internally or externally.

This wasn't Hinkley looking after himself with the uncertainty of COVID, this was Hinkley continuing to feather his own nest because that's ultimately all he cares about. He doesn't care about the club and he doesn't care about winning a flag.

I can add one... When delisted from Geelong was willingly courted by Freo until he decided the payday wasn't big enough for him and preferred easy money in Geelong league.

Came 3rd in the Brownlow and apparently used to go ball chasing to try and get Brownlow votes so the legendary story goes. Probably one that can be added to the Hinkley first list earlier.

Chewy has made it pretty clear that he will inform us if and when Hinkley's position is safe. Until then don't assume anything.

I guess he's a pretty hard sell from any other perspective. He's not good at strategy, he's not good at gameday tactics, the players aren't motivated consistently.

It's not just the Port Adelaide of old that would have sacked Hinkley, btw. It's the St Kilda of now, it's the Gold Coast of now, it's the absolute least ruthless clubs that have ever existed. Every one of them would have let him go to the Gold Coast in 2017. Every single one of them would have let his contract expire if they didn't sack him.

We know why he wasn't let go in 2017. Koch lost the Chinese jumper war to GC, he wasn't losing the coach to GC.

Is this in reference to WGT’s comments on 5aa this week? He seemed keen to make it clear that Ken had been involved in all of the interviews etc and was responsible for getting Aliir, Sava, JHF etc to the club. Weirdly complimentary.
