Opinion Sack Hinkley 3 - 2021 is worse than 2020 already

Personally those aren't the sort of games that turn me off coaches. I don't hold coaches responsible for games where the entire team shits the bed. I hold them responsible for games where the team is clearly giving it their all, winning contests and playing well around the ground, but still losing the tactical battle. Richmond and GWS last year were perfect examples of that.
We've lost many a game at selection over Ken's tenure, but there'd have to be a bare handful where you'd go 'Yep, <team X> should have beaten us, but they went too small/too slow/to overloaded in defense/too many soft players and we took advantage and beat them'. I'd be less furious if there was a two way street of inept selections, but opposition clubs must pencil in requests of 'Port after round 4', so they know all structure has flown out the window by the time we play them.

If only we could play,

1) every game in Queensland
2) every game against opponents who look like they’ve been told they’re fired just before leaving the tunnel and perform accordingly

I might join up with Kane’s Battalion yet.

A good win against Goodwin so well done Hinkley. Good effort to bounce back from the poor effort against St Kilda. Still not convinced Hinkley is the man to take us to our next flag though. 2015 - 2019 have made me very sceptical.

The moment for me was the Bombers loss at Marvel in 2017.

We'd had frustrating losses to West Coast and Geelong in the preceding weeks, and then we had that win where we held Hawthorn to 3 points at half time at home.

And then completely swept off the park by an average Essendon side who were about as middle of the road as it gets, but exploited a very simple method of beating us that Hinkley hadn't addressed in his entire tenure up until that point, and still hasn't. I was done at that point. We had a game plan that wasn't capable of beating good teams, certainly not consistently enough to win finals.

Same, I flew over for it, you could see before the game that the players weren't switched on. Was a horrid day!

I honestly don't even remember the game you're talking about lol, it's like all of the shambolic displays against Essendon at Emptyhad just get filed under some general horrid memory in my mind.

Edit: Was that the one where they kicked like 9 goals in the first quarter?

ffs I went to that game and the smashing vs North last year.

My win percentage at home games I attend sucks and then I go interstate and I see that crap.

Why the **** are all the wins I see on TV!

That's the one. Groundhog Day. Over before it began.

If Hinkley wins a premiership I’ll happily eat my words, but for anyone to say they’ve always backed him - well that’s just based on blind faith and nothing more. 8 years of objective evidence doesn’t lie
Yep, he wins us a flag and he can coach us forever.

But right now after years of failure, stalled development and mediocrity, on all the exposed evidence, Hinkleys record is undeniably poor.
