You would have to go back to early eighties even late seventies I would have thought.

Finishing top and then second on the ladder in the last two years means the chances of Ken being removed are zero. No one is going to back a young assistant coach to get the same results.

Do you mean from Collingwood back in 1984 as you were not making finals in his time coaching Port Adelaide. (only just came into competition)

He wasnt sacked after that preliminary against Essendon in 84. He resigned.

Ken Hinkley sucks any emotion you have out of the game. I mean 10 minutes in, we all knew that was it. We'd all seen that movie before.

It was horrific but in a numbing sort of way. All you could really do was sigh and say "here we go".

Lets say the highly unlikely happens and this club makes a preliminary final next year with the same "coach". This has so mentally fried them all i just can't see them getting over that hurdle until an entirely fresh outlook is brought into the place. This club simply cannot keep repeating the same failed experiment over and over again.

Meanwhile we will be told just to sit back and be happy that we made the prelim. Ken already tonight in the post game presser that getting here was "a bloody good effort."

Sick to death of his loser mentality - it is the antithesis of what the club is meant to stand for.

We can sack Ken and still acknowledge that we did a lot right this year. The place doesn't need to be blown up. The squad is objectively premiership ready according to fans and pundits alike. The list management group is A1. We have a fully funded footy department with some very accomplished assistants. The only spot we havent turned over is the head coach.

We have a team ready to win now. Taking an analogy from the NFL, in 2001 the Tampa Bay Bucs had a solid season but once again failed in the playoffs. They had 3 years under Tony Dungy with an elite roster but couldn't win when it counted. So they went and traded for the best young head coach in the league at the time - Jon Gruden. Gruden made some minor tweaks to the team and they won the Super Bowl in his first season.

The teams who are willing to be brave and to try something different in the pursuit of excellence when they are stagnating are often the very teams who indeed win the silverware.
