The players were terrified. Reminded me instantly of Josh Jenkin's recollection of the 2017 GF, where he was so mentally exhausted before the bounce that his legs felt like lead.

In the lead up there were press conferences where CD dropped the word 'intimidating' when referring to the prelim. Bassett described it as 'scary'. Dan Houston responded to that by talking about 'fear' and being 'daunted' in the same interview.

It was obvious early. Watch the first qtr and notice how many players stood still in congestion, just watching the contest instead of providing an outnumber or getting ahead of the play. I don't like singling out players a lot of the time, the game is hard and they put a lot on the line. But Motlop was very noticeable in this regard. Maybe a bit of PTSD from too many lost prelims. But then, at least he was around the contest, despite being paralysed to do anything constructive.

100% too many players were terrified and paralysed, so it's in the preparation and the mindset.

Ahhhh the old "we'll review it" trick. A review that nobody will ever mention again in a few weeks apart from the customary "lessons have been learned" at some point in time when questioned about it.

Nobody will pay, nothing will be done, normal services to resume.

Jason Dunstall is available.

Agree but this is the head coach's responsibility to prepare the team mentally. Is he actually responsible for anything? He has the stunned mullet look in the box down pat.

Dont know what people expect CD to say he ain't going to attack anyone and name names. Not in public anyway behind closed doors different story.
Ken has bought everything onto himself, he had a chance to have a stress free summer now richo and CD will monitor his every move
Let's see how ken handles the pressure. We will see very early next year how the side comes out of preseason and into games what 2022 holds for him.

The good news is agnosticism is serving me well.

You and your hope, bah. Hope is pain masquerading as a friend.

I need to see the whole interview with CD before jumping at shadows but from the snippets on here it's a worry.

I have absolutely no faith in many at Alberton, I think most are way too soft to be able to build a fearsome, winning mentality within the walls yet I always held hope because of CD. Seemed to be a man who dealt with realities and wouldn't shy away when it got tough.

Guess I was wrong - again.

Watch the ****ing replay you idiots and tell me that effort isn't going to mentally scar the whole group without drastic change immediately.

100% agree, along with the assistants. They got the mental preparation for the game utterly wrong. What I'd say in Hinkley's defence is that in finals Port have generally performed consistent to or above average to the team's average season's form. This is the first time we've completely and utterly collapsed, and he's gotta wear it.

4 clubs make the prelim every year... So... Every 4 and a half years we should make prelim? 🤔
The only numbers that matter to me are:

* 14 years since our last grand final
* 17 years since our last premiership

If those numbers don't worry the powers that be at Alberton, then the Port Adelaide I grew up to know and love is officially dead.

I'm sorry CD, but you've just annihilated your sterling reputation around these parts in one simple trick (has science gone too far?).

This is ****ing outrageous. The lot of you have completely lost perspective.

Kinda reminds me of Yes Minister, when there's a call for an independent parliamentary inquiry, and Hacker replies, "I don't want an inquiry - I want to find out who did it." :).

The post match emotion has worn off for me and after processing it further i 100% believe that Kenny will be coach next year but if we don't improve he is gone, which could be the perfect timing considering Clarko has a preference for having a year off and i think he is the ideal replacement.

I haven't been Kenny's greatest fan and personally i think we should've made the change as far back as 2016. However, despite the last two years ending badly with home prelim losses, they've been our best two seasons under Ken. If they didn't sack him in 2015-2019, they aren't sacking him now. Just as much as Geelong aren't sacking Chris Scott.

The reality is 3rd is about where we sit, definitely a strong argument can be made that the two best teams of 2021 are playing in the GF. All year we seemed a little bit off the top couple sides. We made a late run at it when we got our full squad back but once again the pressure got to us in a home prelim and we failed to deliver.

2020 despite the PF loss their was still a sense of pride in what we achieved, given that we go agonizingly close to knocking off Richmond and making a GF that most of us would've not predicted at the start of that season. And we actually gave it our best shot in the prelim, it wasn't that we played badly that night we just got beaten by a quality opponent with more experience in finals.

2021 feels a lot different, the supporters are angry with how it ended with an embarrassing performance in a home prelim where we literally had no excuses and should've got the job done. The expectation was a lot higher this year and we failed to deliver. The pain of 2020 should've been a driving force but in the end it spooked us. We shit ourselves on Saturday night. This is just as much on the players as it is Kenny. The on field leadership was non existent and they basically gave up in the end.

But I 100% know that he will not be sacked, so i'm not going to waste any more time and energy debating about it. But the expectation will be even higher next year and i think it will be flag or bust for Kenny. And in the meantime we need to put the feelers out to Clarkson.

This is ******* outrageous. The lot of you have completely lost perspective.

What did you really expect? "The Coach is a loser and we've punted him into the Port River"? "I' like to announce Alistair Clackson as the PAFC's new senior coach starting as of now"? As much we want that, he's not going to sit there and blame the coach. This shit is scripted and prepared and messaged. Nothing Good or Enlightening was ever going to come out of that. He's saying what the club is telling him to say. The board is the problem. CD is just an employee.

Agree. Except I have us 4th. We can't beat Brissy either

Not necessarily what a lot want to hear, nothing but Ken leaving would suffice for many at the moment. But I think there’s a lot of sense in what you’re saying.
