He doesn't have the cattle anymore. And I called that tipping point pre season so this is not an overreaction.

But he did have the cattle for most of the previous 9 years and squandered it and that's the crime he's being hanged for. Not winning the flag in 2020 was unforgivable. We will never get a better chance, ever.
We have made top 2 two years in a row, home prelim two years in a row. You don't do that without the cattle, the players are good enough and a hell of a lot better than we have seen last year.

The coach is a loser and instills mental weakness and a lower mentality into the side. No show performances have been the definng trait of the Hinkley era and we have seen that in our last 2 games at Adelaide oval.

Hinkley doesn't work well with others, its why Schofield left and we haven't replaced he nor Voss with any one, presumably so Hinkley can have it all his way and its showing. Schofield was clearly the driving factor behind our improvement the last 2 years and clearly Voss wasn't part of the problem as many (i included speculated) Clearly Hinkley is the problem.

You are right, he pissed 2020 down the drain as he did last year. We beat the dogs 3 weeks earlier but couldn't beat them at home with Bruce out ?

Who would they use as an interim coach if Hinkley is sacked? Bassett? Lol.

They can't sack both of them mid season. We're screwed.

Chadbro. We go cheap on coaches and get what we deserve.

Really need to stop trying out second rounders for nothing so we can draft our love children.

Need to stop playing injured and out of form players. (need better depth)

Don't know why we traded for Finlayson. we don't need more flakey non tall, tall. He was the same at gws and playing under ken's system isn't going to help any forward.

Finlayson is a more than capable, 2 goal a game lead up key forward who is proven to be able to play at AFL level.
What he isn't is a 200cm, 210kg Dixon like contested marking beast. Why we are playing him like one is a question for the brilliant mind of Ken Hinkley.

We know even with Ken coaching at his best we will fail at the penultimate hurdle against the elite sides. 9 and a bit years of proof and evidence are there, it can't be ignored. This year the elite sides will be the least of our problems, we're staring down the barrell of a bottom 4 finish. Our top players are cooked, Ken's message is lost on them, it doesn't sink in anymore. Two years of playing deep into September for no reward has finally caught up to them.

Losing the Prelim by 71 points at home last year (as favourites going into the game) would have left mental scars. The game was virtually over by quarter time (44-7). In the following weeks the club should have tapped Ken on the shoulders and told him that his service is no longer required. They should have the same conversation with Basset. It's going to be a long season...

I’ve never posted in this thread before. And trying not to have an emotional reaction.

However, it is time for a change.

The most disappointing thing was that everyone watching that game could pick that forward entry issues and the run-n-gun style that Hawthorn were playing.

And consistent with what has previously happened, there was zero change in tactics or game plan to counter this.

Either the players are not smart enough to recognise and change or the coaches aren’t smart enough to pick up the game….

You really think Ross Lyon would move the needle? Hasn't been relevant since 2015.

Nathan Buckley? Whilst I could understand people getting excited by Bucks, he coached a team who bottled a 5 goal lead in a grand final against a non-Victorian club at the G. At least you could say with Bucks that despite not having the best players, he seemed to get the most out of his sides.

Whilst Clarko sounds like the dream, I also think there needs to be trepidation with him. He hasn't coached a side to win a final since 2015. I get that he's a 4 time premiership coach and has a hall of fame type resume, but I do question whether the game has passed him by to a degree. I fear he is the AFL's coaching equivalent of Jose Mourinho.

Unless I'm missing someone, assuming the 4th is Don Pyke, he wouldn't be an option to come in right now, but would come in at the end of the season in prep for season 2023.

An untried assistant from a different club could very well be the best option at this point.
I think Lyon would come in and help with what we have. He'd clear out the dead wood and rebuild the confidence in the younger players post Ken, but I don't think he'd coach in Adelaide after doing the Fremantle job for so long so I doubt he'd be available. But I wouldn't be against him coming in.

Buckley I doubt would move here to coach, he seems to have his life in Melbourne and being there outside of coaching and in the media likely suits him at this stage of his life.

Clarkson would be attainable I feel. But I don't think Koch would bring him in. Clarko & Koch would clash in my opinion, and I don't think the club would go for it. I feel we should as after Ken you get the best man for the job, regardless of who it is. Clarkson's record since 2015 isn't of the quality he had until then but he'd demand respect off the playing group and get excitement from the supporter base which is something we sorely need.

It will be a long season for sure, we probably sort it out at some point but we will do as we always do and fall short.

Realistically, even if the club suddenly wakes up, when is the earliest they'd sack the coach? We're a good chance of being 1-4 at best with the season gone after 5 rounds, but I don't see a move being made until there are only a couple of rounds to go.

A 10 year coach saying he has no idea what happened in round 2 at home against a bottom 4 team should see him gone on Monday morning, but it's not happening any time soon. Even if the good news finally comes this year, we're in for months of pain before then.

When Finals are no longer possible, won't be a second earlier.

Exactly what i heard, remember his last media appearance at Alberton ? Pretty clear he was unhappy about leaving.

Was he forced or just decided this bloke is a moron and had to get out?

He wasn’t really here long enough for me, something unusual must of happened.

So Monty is more than happy to put up with it so he can maybe put his hand up?

I know bass’s wife isn’t leaving Adelaide, so he’s just staying as it’s a job.

I get why people knock Bass but he wouldn’t coach like Ken.

Look at the drop in 100+ point games since 2014.

2014: 13
2015:11
2016:7
2017:6
2018:3
2019:5
2020: 1
2021: 5
2022: 0 (so far)

^ this will get the turnstiles humming. IIRC we were 16th transitioning from defence to scoring goals last yr.

Much has been made of our horrible forward set-ups but how's this for a scary thought. The Hawks had their forwards set up very deep.

This gave them a paddock of room to lead into and exposed how slow our key defenders are. Other teams will have been watching.

Ken is a cancer on our club. A toxic carcinogen that will metastisize into a fast growing tumour of empty seats and plunging revenue.

at the threat of entering a den of bears chewing on their keeper and expecting a fair reception, you folk reckon vossy can take us all the way? serious.....

Why not you've got the cattle and with a bit of luck who knows. You looked bloody good the other night backing up your RD1 win.

Good luck to you.

Whatever happens, we must avoid at all costs appointing one of our assistants as head honcho.
Need someone completely removed from Ken's game plans and more tactically into the modern era football way to play ie. an outsider!!!!!
Agree with that but we're literally 2 rounds into the season. Are you expecting an outsider to come in and coach the rest of the year?

Our best bet now is that the board have the wheels in motion behind the scenes (if someone hasn't already been in touch with Clarkson, I'd be astonished) with a view of a fresh start next season.

We have made top 2 two years in a row, home prelim two years in a row. You don't do that without the cattle, the players are good enough and a hell of a lot better than we have seen last year.

Last year was a downtrend on the previous year. We got a bit lucky with close games, other teams falling over, etc. We were around the mark but 2nd flattered us. So the downward trend began last year and if you were watching closely was set to continue into this year.

Reality is that players get old. Boak, Gray, Jonas, Dixon, Motlop, Lycett, McKenzie are all still key players in the team but are at the age where you can expect form to diminish, sometimes rapidly. And you get increased injuries, as seen with that group of players already this year. This is added to Westhoff, Ebert and Hartlett departing, who were all regulars in 2020 when we were at our zenith as a team.

You build up to it. You get your chance. You either take your chance or you don't. We didn't take our chance. We kicked 6 goals in a home prelim and lost by 6 points to the eventual premier. Now we're coming back down the mountain and seeing plenty of younger, hungrier teams passing us on the way down. This is reality. You can choose to accept it or not.

The coach is only part of the problem. We know he's not up to it because he's had plenty of opportunity to deliver and has failed every step of the way. That's on him. Our current reality is that our list is not good enough to contend, despite the delusion coming out of the club. Having a list that isn't good enough and a coach that isn't good enough are not mutually exclusive things, both can be true at the same time and are true of us at the moment.

Don't know specifics unfortunately, but know he didn't get on with Stinkley and wasn't happy about leaving.

Schofield must of left because he couldn’t stand Ken, surely, has anybody heard anything of fact around his departure?
He was literally on the first plane outta there after the prelim. Word has it they definitely didn't get on toward the end... something major happened because I was sure that Schofield was contracted (or had extended to be here this year).

I'd welcome Buckley if he had the fire to want to succeed. I think he's learnt a lot and a year out of the game might give him a new perspective. But he may be completely comfortable where he's at now. I wouldn't chase him if it took too much convincing.
Looks very comfortable and happy in media. Not sure he is ready to come back.
