We're only going to get control if the club pays off it's debts (as AFL backed) and have a strong financial base that can weather down years. Then we remove the AFL excuse for control. The AFL would rather keep control, as it is still the VFL. We only got backing and help to get to AO, as we were becoming a drain on them. Port as mid-table, dependable crowds, some finals, but never a real threat, is perfect in their eyes.

We only have three paths to where we can really pressure to get back our club and bypass their control without them rolling out all the excuses:

1. We win a Premiership, with the subsequent increase (both in number and what the club can charge) in Memberships, Sponsorships and merchandising giving us enough to clear real debt, without Koch's bullshit fudging.
2. We have a rich benefactor bail the club out.
3. We get a much better stadium deal.

If a rich benefactor was going to save us, they would have by now. There's more chance Putin resigning as Russian President and begging forgiveness on his knees at the UN then the SMA(SANFL) giving us a fair stadium deal, unless a gun is pointed at their head.

That leaves a flag. Which is why 2020 burns so much as a wasted chance.

We did have option 4. China, but COVID and Ken stinking it up the years we were playing there put paid to that as our 'get out of jail free' card.

tl;dr; We're f’ed.
Winning a premiership would indeed increase, as you say, memberships, sponsorships and merchandising. In the meantime, the Club has to, at a minimum, retain its current base of sponsors and partners. Imagine how much worse our situation would instantly become if MG, disenamoured with their association to the unattractive image projected by our senior coach and the on-field performance he has overseen this year, should up stakes. And/or if Gupta did likewise. We would truly be back overnight to the swamp as a pre-Koch unloved non-destination brand.

Relevant to this warning is the fact that our GM Commercial, James Lindsay, has left the Club. His name fell off the staff list a few weeks ago, and nought has been said about it. James was involved in the teamwork that landed MG pre-season 2020, and had developed strong connections with GFG.

China, your 4. option above, had everything to do with the MG coup and a lot to do with Gupta’s interest in the Club. It hasn’t been just covid that took away our ‘get out of jail’ card with China, populist geopolitics had already done damage before the pandemic began. It’s a tough world out there, the real world.

Thanks for that, really good points raised. Is there any way to change this predicament? State government policies?
The move to Adelaide Oval was the time but it needed a stronger state Government.

Not easy with so many competing interests from the AFL, SANFL, SACA etc but they did stump up a lot of cash.

Didn't know Lindsay had left. Haven't seen him for a while. Aside from any issues that may or may not have been going on, I know his trek from his family home in Oakbank? Or somewhere like that to Alberton every day was pretty painful for him.

So everyone we want to keep leaves the club, whilst those we want to leave hang on for grim death.

Reckon it's non negotiable for PAFC that Koch and his cronies on the Port board go along with Kern.

They have enabled Kinky Hen's reign of mediocrity and failure at Port for years, how could any one trust them to get your next crucial coaching appointment right ?

I do not really understand why SANFL regulations prevents Port Adelaide members from electing and possibly throwing out their own boards and chairmen if/when required ?

Is there any possible a high roller Port fan or group of supporters can order a board spill and or take the club and SANFL to court to change the constitution so members have a say on how the club operates at board room level.

Footy clubs are first and foremost for the fans, the heartbeat of passionate loyal supporters and members, not just the playthings of pompous, out of touch elitists like Kochie.

I can relate to your pain, frustration and angst as a lifelong Bluebagger, trust me.
I'm reminded of the short sighted gentleman, who found himself stuck in a lift with 10 topless waitresses (half his luck!!!!!) He eventually hit the right button at the 21st attempt.

Maybe our board thinks Ken will get it right at the 21st attempt also......

Why is that so? I would have thought two stronger Adelaide teams would lead to more money and prestige for them in a national competition.
The SMA is a parasitoid, one of those parasites that kills its own host, but they are so driven by greed that they can't see the problem with that.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a flexible working arrangement!

What is this football club anymore.

What if we're good 100% focused about the doing now?

He's found out the what, then worked on the why now he's 100% about the doing.
He knows the worst outcome for him is being fired and getting a $400k payout and he's just mocking the members for his own amusement this point.

We should sack him and just not pay. Make the f@&ker take us to court.

Or he just isn't all that bright.
