"I'd much rather finish the season well than start well".

Another dumb, deluded comment to go with "It wasn't like a normal loss", "If we play like that we'll win more than we lose" and "Success is never linear".

1) If you don't start the season well than your season doesn't end in a grand final, it ends in a round 23 dead rubber.

2) Well you finished last season shit and you started this season shit so you're really not delivering on either at the moment.
Scooter aint the smartest but you can be rest assured, this is a line rolled out by Ken in todays meeting.

Absolutely gutless

They are gonna wait til 0-5
It depends if West Coast are still COVID / injury wrecked. If they are they'll roll the dice on getting over them, to then buy some more time. If we win that, they'll live off it for a month, hoping that's enough time for Dixon and Aliir to be back. Then eek out a few more wins to limp to the end of season. Then bury Ken over summer again, sell Amon and maybe one or two others for unders to hit the draft, claim we're primed for an exciting youth driven turnaround and 'See you at the Footy in 2023!'.

I honestly wish I was joking, but Koch (and by extension Richo) are so invested in Ken, they'll keep backing the low odd plays, on the chance he can redeem himself (and by extension their decisions), that only the absolute worst can change that. What a season where not only have we wanted a Showdown loss, but another heartbreaking Adelaide Oval loss to West Coast maybe the final straw we need to break the camel's back.

In Ken's defence, he has to remain positive and optimistic.

The problem though is with the game plan, mental fragility and selection, and he will not address these issues as his core belief is working harder will fix all.

"I'd much rather finish the season well than start well"

The two aren't mutually exclusive and if you don't start well there's a very good chance you won't finish well because you won't experience the sugar hit of playing finals.

But then we all know that Hinkley believes that playing finals is overrated.

When the club inevitably sacks Ken, will they happy clappers then agree Ken sucks because the club has sacked him?
Nope. They are too invested. If we do well after Ken's gone it'll be 'Ken laid the foundations'. If we're the same 'Ken was just as good'. If we're worse it'll be 'Ken was better'. At no point will they admit they were wrong.

At least the new coach will be a fresh voice. The message has clearly become stale over the past few years, and that message needs to come from someone else.

This is the thing that bugs me about the media.

I’d take almost anyone else to coach after the last 10 years just to see how they’d do it differently. Who cares if the end up shit, at least it’s not more of the current insanity.

You know honestly, I’m actually worried that when we do inevitably sack Hinkley (and they will) - our incompetent board will actually find someone worse.

The assistant coaches debacle this year is unfathomable

I’m genuinely without fathom

It could easily be Primus 2.0…then all we’ll hear is that Hinkley should never have been sacked.

My theory is...

Big clash between hink and Schofield, hence Schofield leaves. Voss gets a better job offer.

Hink reckons he doesn't need em, plus the inside word goes around that Hinkley is shit to work with and doesn't take advice.

Club decides to roll the dice and let ken operate with not much in the way of assistants, in order to save a bit of coin to turf him out if he fails.

They probably didn't anticipate him failing this early on in the season.

I truly believe Hinkley lost his edge when Walsh was murdered in 2015 and Paul Couch died in early 2016. Facing mortality will do funny things to people and in this instance it has shifted footy meaning everything to footy being just a part of life.

Yes, in the grand scheme of things it isn’t up there, but people who succeed in professional sports are consumed by their chosen pursuits. We cannot have a head coach teaching players it is ok to lose because football doesn’t matter in life. Absolutely teach players there is life outside of football, but within the walls of Alberton and out on the playing field, football is the ONLY thing that is important.

He hasn't lost his edge for disrespecting the supporters either directly or through his friends in the media.

I too have no fathom. It's funny. People in Melbourne have finally realised Port is without fathom and Ken is clueless. They aren't fast and don't really pay much attention but it's finally become obvious that the club is ****ed and the emperor wears no clothes.

A lot of media talk now about member dissatisfaction with ken.
No F'ing idea why we are so pissed off.
Someone even suggesting that we never accepted him as he was an outsider. What a load of BS. We don't like him cos he is not good enough to win us a flag. Full stop. At Port Adelaide we win flags
What annoys me the most about Kens teams is
we rarely have someone who stands up under pressure
there is always someone panicking,
missing set shots when it really matters
This soft minded team was always the opposition not us.
And that is why I hate Ken.

“We understand X”
“We understand Y”
“We understand Z”

“We understand that we’ve all been told to say ‘we understand’ as a defensive mechanism to any justified criticism. You see because we say ‘we understand’, it gives the impression that we’ve acknowledged the criticism, when in fact we haven’t and probably won’t do anything about it”
