MONDAY 27th Sept 1976

Outrage has spread around the Port Adelaide district after the ‘unlosable’ grand final was lost by a Magpie outfit coached by John Cahill. Going in as unbackable hot favourites Port bottled it losing by 41points in front of a record crowd police say was close to 80000.

Now without a flag in 11 seasons Port fans are understandably hostile towards their champion player turned coach. Long queues have been sighted snaking for kilometres outside local post offices as fans waited in line to buy postage stamps to send their angry letters and illogical advice to The News and The Advertiser.

Port coach Cahill has been previously linked to selling lemons from his used car plot without the appropriate Fruiterers License. There have also been unsubstantiated rumours he will be embarking on new business venture involving murdered chickens.

‘Lets Sack Jack’ stickers have been sighted in and around the area with an unamed group calling themselves the Big Footy Clique..(The BFC) They are accepting responsibilty.

When quizzed about the reaction of Port Fans ,Cahill responded “ I fully deserve the outrage, Myself and the team will respond like no other Port team in history, we are setting ourselves a target of 4 flags in 5 years. I am a man of my word”

Some members of the BFC have reacted with scepticism . More to come…..

It was also him taking a thinly veiled swipe by pointing out that he drives to work from the coastal, more affluent direction, not the more industrial working class direction from whence the phantom sticker plasterer likely (in his mind) came.

He’s a liar. Who drives from inner West Beach and doesn’t just go straight down Tapleys Hill Rd? He would have driven past it and it ****ing stings him that he saw it.

I don’t think he will. And think we should move on. But the crap posted here and that sign is pathetic
So what do you propose - should we meekly accept the crap the club is dishing up, instead of calling for change? Port fans are angry and frustrated, and they're demanding change from an organisation that doesn't listen to them.

I wonder if he reappears after Hinkleys gone one day. He might be annoyed with the club full stop.
He's probably annoyed with all the Covid Fetishists, from the AFL to the club, to many of the softcocks on this board, who have been outwardly hostile and dismissive of his stance. A principled man, who believes in his own convictions. We love ya Tredders, we love the way you tell em how it is..... oh but not like that.

Critique the club by all means. Personal attacks on Hinkley or any player are a step to far.

But that’s just me.

Reading this thread makes me want Ken to succeed.

You’re all losers
I mean we all WANT Ken to succeed.

I'd ****ing love it if we won our last four, snuck in to the 8, won an EF, a SF, a Prelim then a Grand Final to break our premiership drought and Ken Hinkley celebrated on the dais. Nothing I'd love to see more.

Its just that there is 10 years of evidence telling us its unlikely.

Not personally having a crack at Ken though. Of course he’s going to try and keep his job.

He's had 10 years and made $8 million out of the club and its supporters, he deserves no sympathy. If he had any honour he'd resign. If he resigned and said 'I tried my best but I wasn't good enough, I apologise', I would actually mildly respect him. But he won't.

Homemade Hinkley donuts can now be purchased at the club. Don't judge them by their actual taste but how yummy they could be. They won't win any donut competitions but that's not the point you ingrates
1,000 donuts thrown onto the oval would be a great protest.

Fantasia was asked about the situation on 5AA this morning. He basically reminded everyone how much everyone at the club loves Kenny, and he repeated Ken's line that the sign crossed the line. Maybe that's part of the problem - he's too close to the players. They don't need a father figure: they need someone like Clarkson, who will demand better performances from them.

REPORTER: Ken, you know how passionate your supporters are. [The Sack Hinkey sign] would sting most people... you?
HINKLEY: Worries me not one bit. I think it’s a really poor thing to do. I think it’s a really weak thing to do. It doesn’t worry me.

Sorry Orazio. Whether you like the coach or not is irrelevant. You should be saying "We play for the jumper, club and supporters".

Lucky this very rich man who has been paid something in the realm of $8,000,000 of our money to torpedo the club culture and repeatedly fail in his job, while also regularly thumbing his nose at the supporters, has you to defend him.

He could have been sacked with dignity in 2017. Attempting to shame the supporters for a very minor lack of decorum 5 years later doesn't make you the bigger person or the better supporter.
