MONDAY 27th Sept 1976

Outrage has spread around the Port Adelaide district after the ‘unlosable’ grand final was lost by a Magpie outfit coached by John Cahill. Going in as unbackable hot favourites Port bottled it losing by 41points in front of a record crowd police say was close to 80000.

Now without a flag in 11 seasons Port fans are understandably hostile towards their champion player turned coach. Long queues have been sighted snaking for kilometres outside local post offices as fans waited in line to buy postage stamps to send their angry letters and illogical advice to The News and The Advertiser.

Port coach Cahill has been previously linked to selling lemons from his used car plot without the appropriate Fruiterers License. There have also been unsubstantiated rumours he will be embarking on new business venture involving murdered chickens.

‘Lets Sack Jack’ stickers have been sighted in and around the area with an unamed group calling themselves the Big Footy Clique..(The BFC) They are accepting responsibilty.

When quizzed about the reaction of Port Fans ,Cahill responded “ I fully deserve the outrage, Myself and the team will respond like no other Port team in history, we are setting ourselves a target of 4 flags in 5 years. I am a man of my word”

Some members of the BFC have reacted with scepticism . More to come…..
This would be quite clever in 2015 when we were "only" 11 years without a flag and our coach was in his 3rd year.

The sign only called for the dismissal of someone who has been on a good salary for 10 years and who, if dismissed, would get 6 months of that generous salary. I don't see how that crossed the line. It's not like Ken would be destitute without this job, assuming he hasn't pissed his income up against the blinds.

I’m actually amazed with this whole crossed the line narrative. A sticker has become a breaking point of a situation that’s been allowed to continue due to factors within the club, not members or supporters. And instead of acknowledging it and then, in a good hearted manner similar to what macca19 suggested, brushing it off, it’s like it’s hit a raw nerve and they’ve taken some faux offence to it.

I think Hinkley should be sacked. His lack of pinnacle success over the duration of his tenure speaks for itself.

Highly critical comments can easily directed towards his record, performance and weaknesses, media comments without, for example, including family members not connected to club. That’s a pretty obvious line when it comes to basic human decency.

Like simply saying Sack Hinkley?

Reading this thread makes me want Ken to succeed.

You’re all losers

The funny thing is we ALL want Ken to succeed, it's just that the evidence currently before us is that he doesn't have the ability to succeed to the level we demand as a supporter base. He's good but not good enough.

It's that and his weaknesses as a coach have been on display since at least 2016 and he has shown little to no ability to adapt to address those weaknesses.

The supporters have earned the right to let the decency veil slip a little bit I'm sorry.

This isn't just a mediocre coach, he's the most long term mediocre coach of all time, and we've spent the last 5 years with him past his used by date. More, we've had to listen to the club gaslight us, trot out weak excuses, and even worse, attack us for voicing our displeasure, despite a lot of the people calling for change being long term members who have pumped thousands of dollars into the club.

Nobody has sprayed graffiti on the club, spat on a coach or a player or dumped a load of manure in the car park at Alberton.

At any other club he'd have been sacked in 2017 and we'd probably have relatively good memories of him.

Hinkley won't survive next season.... Dead man walking.... Just bite the bullet and get the s**t over with.
Yeah I reckon he’s coaching next year and a successor will be be named this preseason to learn from his beautiful mind for a year.

Im done with wanting him to succeed. I wanted him to succed 5 years ago but not now. A decade is a more than big enough sample size to know that he will never succeed, and now I want him to crash and burn. It's the only way.
