He won’t be critical of Hinkley. He’ll look at opportunities to be critical of JHF.

King was one of the few dissenting voices at the end of 2019 when it felt like there was a coordinated media strike to protect Hinkley.

He repeatedly called Whateley out along the lines of “they haven’t won a final for 5 years, 2014 was a long time ago, how many chances does he get, Boak/Gray aren’t getting any younger”.

Then he tried the same thing with Rucci on radio and got whamboozled with the “in 2012/when he arrived” spiel.

Then COVID happened, the club made a really good fist of AFLT20 that year and that was that.

Will never forget last season's post game press conference that was closed off to journalists so that Ken could answer softball questions by club employee Rucci.

Ken had been putting off questions about missing finals for weeks and when it was finally his turn to answer the questions he backed off and took the easy way out

Just another example as how protected Ken is.

They will renew him mid season after we win a few in a row
Koch will be looking for the most palatable time in the season to announce the inevitable contract extension. Win a few in a row against minnows or have a surprise win and he'll pull the trigger.

I can see Koch's end of year review was thorough and decisive
Hinkley was excluded from the terms of reference of the review because Koch was certain the guy who he had committed to making a ten year coach couldn't possibly be the problem.

Heard on the radio yesterday that Hinkley won't be told if he gets an extension until Aug. Fingers crossed that means if we are doing crap they are already planning our next coach. Carr or a current coach who may be in there last season also ?

I reckon Ken may of had enough after this year regardless. I’m positive it will be his last year. So the idea of saying we will wait till August might mean he’s already made that thought known.

At some point even Ken knows it’s probably time to move on and it is the last year of his contract.

That’s what I’m expecting.

The wait until August thing means nothing, it's just a way of setting a distant decision making time in the hope the media stop talking about it.

Also lol at August being set (ie the end of the season) because we don't even believe ourselves that we're going to play finals.

Tied to finals probably.

I'd agree with you, but this was pretty much word for word the consensus last year too :(.

Only difference is this is the first time he’s ever been in the final year of a contract.

(Thanks for all those extensions you gave him, Kochie, you absolute genius)
