You've been riding Ken's dick for a fruitless decade.. giddy up

That's what so many don't get. We aren't just a club that tried something, got near it, but it never worked out, like Collingwood with Buckley, Saints with Lyon, Bulldogs with Eade, Crows with Craig, etc, that gets a new coach and a rebuild and gets on with it. Our culture, identity, and standards have been altered beyond recognition. The Creed and everything else that Fos and Jack built, has been disregarded, almost mocked. Our players have attacked supporters, our leaders have put success in the too hard basket, our management has rebooted us to irrelevance.

We need a complete cultural turnaround, and to do that we may need a complete clean out, and there is some chance that may include talented youngsters mid career players who seem like they still have plenty to offer.

Boak prepares himself in elite fashion. He gets the best out of himself and I admire him for that and his durability. When he said words to the effect that "winning isnt everything" he lost me for good. The mindset that we need to be happy and connected and enjoy the journey bullshit has seeped in over the last few years and it makes me sick.

Give me a Roger James every time over Boak. Played probably a third of the games Trav has but had a greater impact when it mattered.

100%

Hard to fathom how far we've drifted under our current administration.

The mentality of just being happy we're competitive, is something I just can't accept.

The word "Connected" grinds my freakin' gears. What does it even mean and since when did it surpass success?

We need to get back to being the leaders of the pack, push the envelope, Fos and Jack were innovators. Bruce Webber had a ‘up the regime’ attitude, Choco rubbed people the wrong way but those that knew him on a personal level backed him to the hilt. All these men did was for the betterment of the club, sometimes at their peril.

Now we are scared of the Guillotine and have entered a self preservation mode. Look at the internal trial, you don’t want maniacs playing and injuries, but it was obvious it was a game played with self preservation at the front of mind. THIS is what has crept into our NEW DNA, our ‘make the community proud’ era.

You’re giving 2013-14 Stinkley too much credit

This is the bloke who strategically shat the bed in the 2013 semi and chocked a top 4 H&A finish after being 10-1 mid season

Absolutely the tactical and structural issues were already obvious. But at least that Ken Hinkley was dogged in his pursuit of victory and his team played like it. I can deal with tactical mistakes if they're made by someone for whom winning is everything.

As soon as the coach stops caring about winning, the players stop caring. It's just usually you don't let that guy coach for another 6-7 years.

The word "connected" sucks because people think it means that you need to have everyone involved be BFFs. That's not what it's about.

Being connected means driving forward as one with a common goal, even if you hate each other personally and think your coach is a stupid f***wit. In 2013/14, we were connected. We believed. The strategy was poor but the players believed in it and they kept doing it until the final siren went.

We've sacrificed the dogged pursuit of winning for becoming the Alberton branch of the Care Bears. The coach doesn't really believe we can win or care, and the players don't buy into the strategy (because it's repeatedly failed and they don't suffer any consequences for not buying in) and they mentally fold and abandon it when the pressure is applied.

Boak is, as much as anyone else, a product of his environment. Zero accountability, winning doesn't matter as long as we're all best friends. Shifting that culture is a board level issue. The only players who could shift that culture on their own are one off unicorns like Luke Hodge.

Roger James played in a team full of hard bastards who hated losing. That was the standard. They didn't have to be best friends and there were some clear personality divides in the group, but they all pushed in the same direction. They held themselves and their teammates to the highest possible standard.

The appointment itself was incredibly dubious and borderline amateur reading back on it:

"Then came Mackie's text.

"I'd never spoken to Andrew Mackie but his text said Ken Hinkley has changed his mind and you’ve got to get back and talk to him, he's gettable," Thomas told The Advertiser.

"So I rang Ken and he confirmed it. Things went from there.

"I've kept his (Mackie's) text and I'll never forget it. I've subsequently spoken to him and said, 'mate, thankyou' because I don't know if Ken would ever have spoken to us without that text.

"So Mackie will go down in history as the guy who helped make it happen."

Thomas - who after giving up the chase for Hinkley had zeroed in on then Hawthorn assistant Leon Cameron as his preferred choice before he joined GWS - said other Geelong players and staff members also had phoned him to push Hinkley's case."

KT sells us like we're a shitter version of Fitzroy and not one of the most successful football clubs in Australia.

We had a few lean years (mainly 2 in 2011-2012 since 2008-2010 were more midtable results).

But tell me if Eddie McGuire sold Malthouse the same sob story about Collingwood in 1999?

What kind of recruitment process involves Hinkley's Geelong mates texting KT to hire him?
In the PAFC senior appointment playbook, "I got a text from some rando" was the 2012 version of "we searched the world for the best candidate and found the were right under our noses the whole time".

gO aNd sUpPoRt tHe cRoWs”

Little do these people know that the Crows would have sacked Ken Hinkley at least three times by now.
Would’ve been up against it in 2015, but probably retained. Then…

2016 - sacked
2018 - sacked
2019 - sacked
2021 - sacked post season
2022 - sacked by round 6

Crows would have sacked Hinkley 5 times by now.

"connected" has become the word sporting groups use when they're happy to participate and be mates on and off the field rather than demand success and perhaps hurt someone's feelings in the process.

Connect=comfortable.

Yeah, taking that sh¡tpile to within a Dom Sheed needlethread of a flag while Hinkley missed September completely after going all-in with Rockliff, Watts and Motlop alongside Boak, Gray, Wines, Wingard, Polec, Ebert, Westhoff, Howard, Dixon, Ryder and plummeting from 11-4 to 12-10 isn’t making the point he thinks he is.

But it’s alright, ‘Selfless Ken’ was about to ‘sacrifice his career’ by trading some players for some [more] first round picks!
Lets ignore his record and make it even more obvious / simple. If his name was anything other than Buckley we wouldn't want him. Hes not even coaching anymore.
