According to Carro sounds like he's staying and a deal has already been done to be announced August. Lol
I don't really believe much of what the so called journalists have to say but if that is the case, if he had any self-respect and he does, I would expect Josh Carr to walk out the door the next day.

Given how leaky every aspect of the AFL seems to to be, I'm quite amazed that we literally have no clue as to Ken's status next year

Not even the slightest of rumour other than "journos" just making shit up

This seriously makes me think that they really haven't made a decision as yet

That's my take and I'm hanging on to it for dear life !

Carro has gone out on a limb with the Hardwick to suns story but her predicting Ken Hinkley is staying at Port is picking the low hanging fruit. Everyone knows he is staying besides a number of Port fans still in the denial stage.

I'm 90% on Ken is staying but its good to dream/meme.

If we go to early again how do we recover from finishing top 2 and say drawing the crows round 1 of the finals and losing. We've been here before winning a lot in the season and then ****ing up the finals, there's no evidence yet that has changed so nothing should be signed until we make a GF.

Sorry to intrude but he may very well be resighed in late August, which I'm not convinced about but contract or no contract if he doesn't get to the granny I've heard both parties will mutually part. So I think it's weird if they decided not to wait till seasons end maybe they may want clear air during finals?
If he gets to the grand final then all good he will continue if he wants. Don't stress either way you guys win. I think it will be the latter and you will be forking out $$$ for travel to melb in late September. Dont be surprised if he even does a selwood and retires on top then carr takes over next year.

We are getting to the pointy end of the "would a club date?" type territory. The club waiting until after the finals would take balls of steel in the current footy media landscape. Even the pundits who are saying "wait" are following that up with "He's staying, what's the rush?." I still don't believe it's not already a done deal behind closed doors. I hope we are genuine in waiting but it just seems so at odds with the last 10 years or so.

Unless we have set a black and white KPI like "must make a grand final", I don't trust the club not to waver. Surely we have to have something like that?

You could probably get Carr to ignore opportunites elsewhere & stay in his current role for one more year imo.

He & the family prefer living in Adelaide, but he can only hold the desire to coach Port for so long before looking elsewhere.

This is where Koch needs to read the signs & put the future of the club first over a guy trying to do a Sheedy without the success.

If "grand final", not "premiership" is the marker for a contract extension, there'd be no surer thing in my mind than the brains (Carr) being poached and the club returning to mediocrity under a rudderless Hinkley. It's a premiership or bust, and even then I think he should walk away and go do something else.

I think there is so much disinformation and disingenuous actors in play in the media space that it is really difficult to work out fact from fiction.

Throw in the unprecedented position we find ourselves in after 10 years and 16 rounds and the club letting the contract run to the wire this time, add in some confirmation bias and/or people not wanting to get their hopes up that we may finally see the back of him, and we have the situation where everyone is just guessing in the media and guessing in the supporter base.

The media have done themselves no favours in recent years, the race to the bottom has meant supporters around the league roll their eyes at them as a first instinct.

Have to agree. Anyone who thinks Koch has the balls to get rid of a coach that's made finals is living in an alternate reality.

The pump up of Ken will continue in the media throughout this season. Regardless of our personal opinions, seeing the Club succeed in the manner which they have to date this year and in the circumstances surrounding it is a great storyline for the media to jump on. Everyone wants to hear about a gutsy feel good story. And right now Port is the flavour of the season.

All of the info getting leaked to journos so far this year has all been from Ken's perspective. But there has often been the caveat of "well we're not sure Ken even wants to stay there." This is all being fed to the media by Ken's manager.

I'm not going to name names, but I have a source who is extremely well connected to the Club, the AFL and the media - and they were adamant that after round 3 and prior to round 4, Ken was informed (possibly not directly but it was certainly alluded to him) that he was not going to get a contract extension at Port, that he was kicked out of the box to help facilitate a transition, and that in exchange for keeping a nice face about it all, Ken would get to control the narrative surrounding his contract in the media.

I remain in constant contact with this individual - and they maintain that nothing has changed to the effect of Ken staying despite the 12 game win streak. Of course, things may change in the coming weeks and months, but as of right now it's going to take a lot more than 12 home and away wins in a row before Ken gets an extension.

If he were to get an extension prior to finals and the Club for instance was eliminated in the prelim or even worse, straight sets - the pile on for change would not be on Ken but it would be on Koch. And I'm far from convinced that Koch has the balls to make such a decision whereby he is putting himself at the coal face of any criticism.
