The pump up of Ken will continue in the media throughout this season. Regardless of our personal opinions, seeing the Club succeed in the manner which they have to date this year and in the circumstances surrounding it is a great storyline for the media to jump on. Everyone wants to hear about a gutsy feel good story. And right now Port is the flavour of the season.

All of the info getting leaked to journos so far this year has all been from Ken's perspective. But there has often been the caveat of "well we're not sure Ken even wants to stay there." This is all being fed to the media by Ken's manager.

I'm not going to name names, but I have a source who is extremely well connected to the Club, the AFL and the media - and they were adamant that after round 3 and prior to round 4, Ken was informed (possibly not directly but it was certainly alluded to him) that he was not going to get a contract extension at Port, that he was kicked out of the box to help facilitate a transition, and that in exchange for keeping a nice face about it all, Ken would get to control the narrative surrounding his contract in the media.

I remain in constant contact with this individual - and they maintain that nothing has changed to the effect of Ken staying despite the 12 game win streak. Of course, things may change in the coming weeks and months, but as of right now it's going to take a lot more than 12 home and away wins in a row before Ken gets an extension.

If he were to get an extension prior to finals and the Club for instance was eliminated in the prelim or even worse, straight sets - the pile on for change would not be on Ken but it would be on Koch. And I'm far from convinced that Koch has the balls to make such a decision whereby he is putting himself at the coal face of any criticism.

I have no sources, no connections, no anything to tell me whether this is or isn't true, but I choose to believe it on blind faith because it sounds nice and that's all we can do right now.

I'm happy to live in my little fantasy

I don't really believe much of what the so called journalists have to say but if that is the case, if he had any self-respect and he does, I would expect Josh Carr to walk out the door the next day.
what a disaster that will be

we lose carr, lose hardwick and end up with the DH for another 3 years

here we go again..we couldn't be that stupid again? could we

Yeah, my feeling has been, win a premiership (even if Josh Carr is the brains behind it all) he goes out a winner and conquering hero, or, he fails to win the flag and doesn't get an extension.

I have 100% faith in Chewy's source but also feel that as the wins pile up it puts more and more pressure on Koch. He really is in a no win position short of a premiership because the critics will be strong either way. His best play might be an extension with a succession plan to Carr but I'll believe that when I see it.

Between the Hinkley disciples that come in here to gloat (after 10 years lol), the Bigfootyites who are too far down the 'Sack Hinkley' hole to give him a shred of credit, borderline erotic fan fic about Carr calling the shots, interpretation of facial expressions, rumours and whispers about deals being done, opposition supporters swooping in to give/take hope, character assassinations, dummy spits, spats, ..this is actually the best thread ever.

Even if it leaves us open to Carr getting poached?

I agree. The only way I could ever see this happening is if the club was very public about the setup and if the coaches were remunerated appropriately. It would be a bold move and one that would require the suppression of ego from both.

The assistants in American Football are about as prominent as any sport going around, but outside the most hardcore circles, people will always associate success and failure with the players and head coach. I think it would require essentially a reversal of seniority.

Whilst I'm not outright calling this out, there are factors that make this challenging to believe, and a few that might support it.

In this scenario, the players can't be aware right? Or they are? They're coming out nearly every week in support of Ken in the media. Josh Carr is doing some heavy lifting for somebody who is receiving basically zero credit. Ken is very excited to be winning for a coach who has effectively been neutered. Is this something that is to be revealed at some point? It's going to look awful strange to the media if we sack him after winning a GF. What kind of reception is JC going to receive from the happy clappers next season? Are the other assistants reporting to JC already? Why would Ken not be out there looking for another job now? If he is, how is this being kept secret? There are so many questions and it's such a bold move that it's difficult to believe. If our list management people were in charge of the decision, I could believe it, they've made some bold moves in the past, but Kochie and co?

No. If CD is the quality performer we keep hearing he is, there's no way he let's that happen.

He sits in the box. He knows what's what.

Chewy's post has been my take all along. The paradigm shift after rnd 3, Ken coaching from the bench, something he has said he doesnt particularly like, and jokingly says he was made to do, the rigid stance from the club that no decisions till August, snippets of narrative from CD, and Cornes yesterday about the coaches box. Ken's smugness as the team have progressed to 12 wins - not just aimed at Tredea's comments IMO, they are aimed back at the club.

I am so fully convinced that Hinkley & Port will part ways "amicably" at end of year - It will NOT be a sacking, as you describe, but a mutual agreement to not renew his contract, as Ken 'pursues other goals.' If Port fails in finals, he will go out the hero for having taken the Power on this great run through 2023. If we take the premiership, it will be the same line, but with greater kudos. the media will love it, and Ken will soak it up as he rides off into the sunset.

Port will then quietly announce our new coaches setup for 2024.

I want this to be true so hard!

Are they?

The last few games the players have all been talking up Josh Carr's involvement.

You could probably get Carr to ignore opportunites elsewhere & stay in his current role for one more year imo.

He & the family prefer living in Adelaide, but he can only hold the desire to coach Port for so long before looking elsewhere.

This is where Koch needs to read the signs & put the future of the club first over a guy trying to do a Sheedy without the success.
Can see Carr applying for the west coast job if Simpson is sacked

Back in February I was told by someone who, while not in the thick of day to day club things, is someone who definitely had Intel, that the Josh Carr handover was definitely a thing, and that the players love him.
A change of coach this seamless maybe comes along every 20 years or so.

I almost sense a mild desperation, pathetic pleading and condescending 'you need to do this' in some sections of the media in relation to the (hopefully non) reappointment of kenny moron.

Knowing we have fallen for it previously. Yes davy littlekoch, that's you and your fellow vile miscreants on 'the board'

Grow some plums and stand firm for a change. If you claim to be Port Adelaide for life, which quite frankly I find insulting. You know what must be done and you so spinelessly failed to do so in 2017. The cash cow is being fed by someone else now. Time to stop watching re-runs of sunrise in front of one of your many full length mirrors, whist clad in undersized female undergarments................aaaaannndd......................................................................

SACK HINKLEY

There just isn't a shred of logic in rushing a decision on Hinkley now or in the next few weeks.
None.

Wait until the end of the season. A flag and he stays and all is forgiven (mostly).
A finals fade out and he goes.
If he can't wait until the end of the season for a decision, and wants to have something in place before then - go for it.
But we have to wait. We've seen this movie before; multiple times. The ending never changes. Not yet anyway.
