I want to desperately believe in this clandestine handover but I just can't see Ken and management going along with it as the wins keep piling up. Something has to break and I'm betting it will be Koch.

I have 100% faith in Chewy's source but also feel that as the wins pile up it puts more and more pressure on Koch. He really is in a no win position short of a premiership because the critics will be strong either way. His best play might be an extension with a succession plan to Carr but I'll believe that when I see it.
The win was to sack him last year. Or like 5 years ago.

There just isn't a shred of logic in rushing a decision on Hinkley now or in the next few weeks.
None.

Wait until the end of the season. A flag and he stays and all is forgiven (mostly).
A finals fade out and he goes.
If he can't wait until the end of the season for a decision, and wants to have something in place before then - go for it.
But we have to wait. We've seen this movie before; multiple times. The ending never changes. Not yet anyway.
I think if the players know that this is ken's last charge they would be motivated by that.

No. If CD is the quality performer we keep hearing he is, there's no way he let's that happen.

He sits in the box. He knows what's what.

David Koch said in an interview recently that he gets a copy of each gameday transcript so that he can review which coaches are making the moves etc on gameday.

For all the commotion on here he sounded like a pretty good operator. Let's hope he's learnt his lessons from previous seasons.

Does Carr have kids?

Certainly does. Was part of why he's returned to SA.

The current winning streak doesn't put more pressure on Koch at all, imo. The pressure is nothing more than a perception concocted by the media that if they don't re-sign Ken right this very minute, he will leave to go to another club. Fact is that no senior coach has ever agreed to a deal with another club for their senior coaching position during the course of the season, and I wouldn't expect Ken to be the one who would be one to create history in this instance. There's literally nothing to gain for Koch to extend Ken at this point. Even some of the brighter minds of AFL media have publicly said given the streak they're on it would be wise to wait longer and let this play out before they make a decision. After all, Ken might be in high demand according to AFL media, but the Port senior coaching job is the one literally every coach wants right now. If Ken were to leave it is not as if they're high and dry without a good candidate to fill the role, and Koch would be well aware of that.

Whilst I'm not outright calling this out, there are factors that make this challenging to believe, and a few that might support it.

In this scenario, the players can't be aware right? Or they are? They're coming out nearly every week in support of Ken in the media. Josh Carr is doing some heavy lifting for somebody who is receiving basically zero credit. Ken is very excited to be winning for a coach who has effectively been neutered. Is this something that is to be revealed at some point? It's going to look awful strange to the media if we sack him after winning a GF. What kind of reception is JC going to receive from the happy clappers next season? Are the other assistants reporting to JC already? Why would Ken not be out there looking for another job now? If he is, how is this being kept secret? There are so many questions and it's such a bold move that it's difficult to believe. If our list management people were in charge of the decision, I could believe it, they've made some bold moves in the past, but Kochie and co?

The players have acknowledged that there has been a significant shift in the way things are being run. Multiple players have noticed and said in interviews that Ken is a lot more relaxed and they're all very quick to praise their line coaches. Ken still has a role to play - he's a very good manager of people and personalities. That's where his strengths lie, but tactically he has been found out frequently. Leaving the coaches box to have more tactical input has been a great move for all parties. Even Josh Sinn was quoted by Rucci on the Port website and went as far to say that his role as the unused sub was similar to Ken's role on match day as a glorified cheerleader.

Nothing will be revealed publicly - that's not how this works. All parties in this matter have the right to change their minds going forward. But right now, the setup as it stands is working. If they won a grand final with the current system they would be absolute fools to change it. Whilst Ken has seen his role change over the last 3 months, that doesn't mean that his role has become redundant. He's still got a big role to play - they're just maximising his strengths more and letting the coaches box have a greater input on gameday particularly from a tactical sense.

FWIW, it's very easy for Ken's manager to be on the lookout for a new job whilst remaining it private from the AFL media headlines. We saw Ross Lyon was St. Kilda's coach until he wasn't and had crossed the Nullarbor to Freo - that negotiation went for months but media only reported it for 24 hours essentially.

You also have to realise that after round 3, there was a belief internally that Ken was one bad loss away from being sacked.

I have no doubt the Board wanted Ken gone after round 3 and were simply waiting to make that move formally. But now they're in a quagmire because the new setup has worked so well and 12 wins in a row is nothing to sneeze at. But ultimately none of this matters if the results in the finals replicate what we have seen under Ken in the past.

One of the reasons he took the job back at Ports was so his in-laws in Adelaide could help out with the kids.

I've seen him at Magpies' games at Alberton with his kids in tow.

This is where I am as well. Even if there's a plan Koch is on the other end of the spectrum from ruthless. All we need is one weekend where he gets swept up in the emotion and figures the renewal is a feelgood moment and it'll happen.

I tend to think that Ken's behaviour is that of someone who is trying to enjoy his last season. Everything since round 3 lines up with the theory that Ken has already been tapped on the shoulder and if that has happened, the success since he moved to the bench only strengthens the club's decision to move to Carr.

Hope he retires a premiership coach at the end of this season.

Why am I not surprised that David Koch who knows nothing about running a football club thinks that this level of micromanaging from the chairman of the board is necessary.

It's not micromanaging if he's reading a transcript to stay informed. Pretty good idea if you ask me given coach is out of contract at year end.

Micromanaging would be if he was trying to control decision making.

It is micromanaging. We have a General Manager - Football to worry about that. If Koch needs to stay informed about what is happening in the coaches box he should be reading Chris Davies's report not doing his job.

I get what you're saying but given the current outcry from fans that Josh Carr is a coaching mastermind, I don't mind Kochie popping the hood on gameday and having a look at what's actually occurring. It should vindicate what this board has been saying. Agree that he wouldn't want to do it all the time.

CD is probably the smartest guy in the room but everyone has biases.

I was hoping he meant that CD gets the transcript. Because you're right if it is Koch thats a massive worry.

Koch and his board should be acting on the recommendations of the people actually employed full time to manage things. We all saw what happened when Haysman recommended that Choco not be given a contract extension and the board went against that recommendation and extended him. Koch has less idea about what is required to be a successful football club than a large number of the posters on this board.

I'm all for removing Hinkley but I much prefer this year's version off the bench where he's showing genuine reaction and passion.

100s times better than sitting alone in the corner downing Coke Zeros.

He’s not sh*t. He isn’t head coach material. Just that.

As assistant coach responsible for players’ welfare and gameday motivation, he would do pretty well, I reckon.

Why was stinkley smiling before Houston's shot at goal 🤨 Houston has a great leg on him but there was no guarantee from that distance and angle it was gonna be a goal ..
Because whether it goes through or not doesn’t really matter to him.

I’m sure he’d love to win a premiership, but I’m sure he’s fine not to as well.
