The fact the obviously feel they need to sugar coat this carefully to the supporter base tells you a bit. Most of these things happen at, what, 11am?

This kind of Sugar Coating ?

It's so baffling. The club obviously knows that it's the wrong call or they wouldn't be so spineless about it, they're in full control of the decision, but they're just gonna go ahead and make the wrong call anyway.

I understood it last year, Ken was contracted so it was entirely possible the club wanted him out but had to publicly backing him albeit reluctantly, but he's uncontracted now. They obviously know nobody wants him here. They have the full power to get rid of him. Why is he being re-signed?

What you're missing is that the other clubs who have failed don't constantly talk ("we'll win 3 in 5 years" for example) and constantly spin failures as successes. They make mistakes, learn, have the guts to make tough decisions, and try again.

Look at Melbourne for example - they moved on Daniher, Bailey, Neeld and then put Roos in for two years before going to Goodwin. They've had 4 coaches in Ken's time. But eventually they got it right. Carlton have gone through 5 coaches in Ken's time yet they're now currently the form team of the competition... and I'll bet that if they do fail to capitalise they won't sit on their hands saying "oh but look at Voss he made a prelim that time", they will act decisively if they can secure a coach more suited to the job.

Port Adelaide is the only club in the competition happy to tread water as an "also ran" year after year, calling it a success.
Sadly this is because in the eyes of our owner, the VFL, we are a success. We provide a competitive match most weeks and pay down our debt.

You obviously don't read my posts properly, I told you guys ages ago that Ken wouldn't be sacked if he made top 4 and that a succession plan with carr was on the table. Both of these things are true.
They don’t need to sack him, he was out of contract. All that was needed was a simple comment “we’ve decided to go in a new direction with Josh Carr”

My apologies- I should have said "Many other clubs including two bigger ones in Essendon and Carlton" I wasn't trying to denigrate Ports stature.

I get that it's been a while since your last flag but there are 17 other teams vying for it too and even with the best coach in the world there is still a big element of luck.
Keep in mind that as a new club you won one very early on in the piece (it took Hawthorn 36 years).
Too much reason for this lot. Most going down the same rabbit hole, the lead big bunny has come stuck against a solid rock wall. and has only 1 thought in mind while all the other rabbits have come to the same point and are ramming urgently against the backside of the one in front of them. Makes a very perturbing image and a state of lunacy, but they enjoy it which is even more perturbing.

Have any of those 'Big Clubs' kept the same coach for 11 years without making a Grand Final?

FFS, your own club moved on a 4 time Premiership coach. Some people should think before they type.

New club?

Forgive the intrusion but as an outsider it's hard to understand the vehemence that some Port fans have against Hinkley.

He had you guys within a kick or two of a flag in 2014 then came close again only a few years back and now you are top 4 and in with a chance again.
I realise there has been no flag but there are many bigger clubs around that haven't come close to winning one in the time either.

I can't say I've never called for a coaches head but it just seems odd to do so when you are having success.

Anyway best of luck!
Seriuosly do you call winning home and away games success?

How many flags has your club won since 2013? 2013-14-15 Port haven't even played in a GF since 2007. We got smashed in the 2021 prelim by a wounded Bulldogs outfit at Adelaide oval when we were hot favourites.

An obvious troll from a supporter of a club that sacked a 4 time premiership coach because it was a good idea to sack him.

Clarkson being sacked was a HUGE bone of contention to pretty much all Hawthorn supporters.
Most if not all would have been happy with him staying and those that did want him gone were more keen on not losing Mitchell to Collingwood rather than calling for Clarko s blood as such.
There are no Power champions lined up for the job as far as I'm aware.

One more very important thing to remember is making a GF and losing feels if anything far worse than just making up numbers.
And three quarters of the premierships in Ken's time in the job have been won by just three clubs.

I reckon the best thing to do is back your coach in for the next few seasons and hope for the best rather than eating yourselves up over a bit of bad luck a few years back.

Seriously. Who is the coach in line to get the job? You are showing yourself up to be clueless here. Probably cut your losses time.

How is it possible to know anything about the AFL and write this bolded line? Have you not been following the news or this thread at all? Have you not heard of Josh Carr? Or going back a couple of years Jarrad Schofield?

I'm a SEN listener, I'm overseas so I'm a watchafl.com subscriber which means it all comes through Fox and part of the package is Talking Footy and AFL 360 etc. Respect is a big word for a journalist but if I was to hold him up against Triple M with Roo and Ditts yeah I'd probably stick with SEN. I've got no idea if you're a lunatic.
Imagine thinking whateley is better than anyone, the guy has zero integrity and has made it him ambition to have a friend extended, yet he's your man

If we’re riding the coattails of success in 2014 then I should still be leading the bowling line up of my high school open cricket team.
