It's pretty funny that you of all people would whinge about a stat being cherry picked, but 8 years without winning a single knockout final is 8 years without winning a single knockout final.

Difference is that I provide context. For example, Todd Marshall not being played much in his first few years misses out on the context of the fact that he was given leave of absence twice because his parents died. Charlie Dixon not having a good season in 2019 is because he was coming back from a broken leg.

Context is important. For example, back in 2010, the share price of BP was $14.50 - literally half price. Data analysts were telling traders to buy the stock because it was historically cheap.

Why was it cheap? Because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Every trader worth his salt was shorting the shit out of that stock like you wouldn't believe.

That's why data and stats are only ever half the equation.

The qualifying final wins were both pretty good, and then we backed them up by shitting the bed in the prelim. In the 2020 prelim it was just at the clearances where we torpedoed any chance we had of winning, in 2021 it was one of the worst bedshitting performances in preliminary final history.

We're around the mark this year. We're absolutely good enough to win a flag. But again, to win a flag you have to be able to back up 3 games in a row against top 4 opponents.

And we've beaten two of the three other top four teams this year. And respectfully, if Aliir and Jones were playing against Geelong, we would have most likely beaten them at Kardinia too.
