I had a 'mare last night that we stumbled into (and quickly out of) the finals, and Ken's contract was extended further for such a successful season.

Koch’s comments, fu** me.

Port Adelaide chairman David Koch says every position at the club will be reviewed at the end of the season, including Ken Hinkley’s position as senior coach.

But Kochie ruled out any coaching moves before the end of the year: “Oh god no,” he told FIVEaa Breakfast on Monday. “Good clubs -- you don’t do that.”

“We’ll review it at the end of the year. We’re still one game out of the finals, as weird as that seems at the moment…

“We’ve always said… that our pass or fail mark that we set ourselves is making the finals… we’ve got to deliver that. Our members expect it and we expect it. We’re a club with a proud tradition of succeeding.”

Talking about good clubs and our proud tradition. An intelligent person wouldn’t speak of things they have no idea about.
Good clubs dont play just one losing final in the last 5 years

Koch said they wait until the end of the season, so no mid year sacking. So in your scenario we wont see change until the end of 2020 at best. :mad:

😄🔫

...

Now that just seems negligent from the club. I can’t believe we are that incompetent

So I’m taking the view above ^^

Hinkley sacked end of 2019 after he fails his performance target. No need to pay out more than required if done mid season

Seriously, someone needs to print a stack of these pics out you have been doing and plaster them all over Alberton. Send a stack in the post addressed to all the key figures.

If Coach Zero was in charge of a successful European Football club he would have been sent packing a long time ago.

Our proud heritage is rapidly being damaged & eroded & our jellyfish board don’t really give a s**t.

They’ll just re-polish & re-roll the turd in glitter over summer & continue on their merry way.

United has now slipped into the 2nd division.

Easily fixed, Pykey:

1. Grin hard and long at the camera straight after a loss;
2. Get caught on TV in Chinatown chucking a cup of Chinese tea over your shoulder;
3. Throw a few shock words or phrases into your pressers, like ‘terrorise, I reckon’ ... ‘youse, I reckon’ ... ‘I reckon, I reckon’ ... ‘I’s a grouse coach, I reckon’.

You’ll be jake shipmate. I reckon.
This is now the 'sack-jake shipmate' thread

I'm happy to wait until the end of the 2019 season for the club to start making coaching changes, it's kind of pointless to sack a coach and get a caretaker so close to the end of the season. If we were bottom five then it would be a different story, but it's four more weeks, we'll live.

I tend to agree. Means we miss the caretaker "dead-cat bounce" and sneak in to finals but ultimately if Ken is gone and we save some cash all is well.

This is okay as long as:
1) Ken actually gets sacked.
2) We don't go looking for the last man standing again.
3) We don't lose either of Schofield or Montgomery in the mean time.

A more liberal reading of Koch’s comments is that his hands are tied to do anything contractually until the season is over, and we officially have not made the finals, at which point we are able to dismiss Ken via a no-finals clause.

I realise anything but immediate termination (or words signalling this) is not sufficient for many here, but if the writing is truly on the wall (I believe it is), does it really matter? Or rather, the club has likely decided that saving several hundreds of thousands of dollars via activating a performance clause is preferential to paying that amount and having a caretaker coach for four games...
In amongst all the blabber and waffling and interruptions and stalling and dodging and weaving and unprofessionalism when Koch was asked: “So if you make finals this year it means that Ken will be coach next year?” (or words to that effect), he replied: “Blab- waff- er- ah- NO!”

Yeah, the fact he said we'll make the decision at the end of the season does give me a lot of hope. Normally Koch would say something like "Ken will definately be coaching at Port Adelaide next season", He didn't say that. He said decisions will be made at the end of the season. Also the fact that question was asked is also a good thing.

We need to lose badly this week and have 20k rock up next week to put it beyond any doubt.

If we arent going to sack him before the end of the year, I certainly hope we are talking to prospective coaches regardless. Sitting on our hands while so many clubs are looking for coaches is suboptimal to say the least.

I think you will notice the messaging has changed. No longer is it Ken is coaching at top of his game etc. His position is up for review. Its a fair shift. Management or Directors are never going to publicly hang their coach out and say he is shite and we are going to sack him. There would be many factors at play and club if they are going to part ways, they will likely be doing it as methodically as possible so as not to incur any unnecessary additional cost. I think sacking him now would be great for all of us, but it probably doesn't achieve a great deal in the long run. Maybe we get a spike and best case slip in to finals, but this season is dead. Lets part ways, undertake a rigorous and detailed search with people like Darren Cahill involved and find us a new coach who can lead us in a new and better direction.

I’m with this. It’s going to happen, but as much as we’d all like it to happen now, it won’t.

But it will happen.
