I'm not fussed how long it takes as long as SS is back in action by the start of the NAB Cup.....

Well this thread has gone well and probably confirmed what some of the old timers here posted about knobheads from Saintsational

Why come to a forum to tell it that it is shit? Just don't bother FFS. However at least everyone can see the infantile tripe that you post all the time as supposed opinion at SS.

Please don't infect other sites and forums if you cant behave like an adult, or maybe the moderation you critisise (with absolutely no foundation I may add) may give you the arse.

garth p - not lecturing you, just find it highly amusing your us and them confrontational attitude while complaining about SS's confrontational attitude.

As i said not lecturing you - however you should perhaps listen to posters who were here for years before you came along, considering you have appointed yourself the great defender of the St.Kilda club forum on BF from the barbarian hordes from SS.

Almost all of the moderating Kildonan and I do on this board involves editing and deleting posts from opposition supporters. We read most threads however can't be online 24/7. That's why we ask people to use the report post button. When you do that we immediately receive an email and can act on the report quickly. This is particularly important if the post contains any material that needs to be deleted straight away.

Bigfooty is a very popular forum these days and as there are plenty of places for opposition supporters to get stuck into our club (main board, Bay 13, etc) we like to keep this board a haven for Saints fans to freely express their opinions amongst fellow supporters. That's not to say we don't encourage different viewpoints. Provided it's between Saints fans we actually welcome debate. It would be boring if everybody agreed with each other all the time.

It would be a sad day if we had to start deleting posts and issuing infractions to Saints supporters on our own board though. If I have an issue with one of our supporters on here I'll send a PM. I wouldn't have thought the way this board is moderated would affect your time here but we're always happy to get feedback on how we can improve things.

You catch on quick, MM. Normally when it comes to dealing with filth, you can use domestos or just flush it down the can. But like the MCG change room on GF day, it can overflow and it is often better to get the hell out of there.
I assume you've now met Tiny from Timmytown, KissTroll, PuMunchoo, PieLied and Optispak!

there is too much anti saints on the main board to stay on there too long (well at least for me). can't stand it, so i read a bit, and move over here or to saintsational. well i stay in saintsational until a few just keep arguing between themselves and get out of there as well. sometimes you just give an opinion over there without someone down your throat.. so as a result i rarely give an opinion

I was very surprised at the 'pack mentality' that seems to invade most threads over there.
One only has to raise a slight question on something Collingwood and 'all hell seems to break loose.
It's almost like there is a secret txt message sent out to all their stolen phones that advises them to attack in various threads because the very foundations of the 'Westpac Centre For All Things Great In Collingwood' (WCFATGIC) are being maligned?

It's almost like they earn 'scout badges' for defending their 'honour' no matter how true/valid any criticism might be.

I never really uderstood previously that magpies were 'pack animals'.

Over on saintsational they never really get an opportunity to show this side of their behaviour before getting booted.

Very interesting for a newbie like myself.

MM, i think you'll find its because they all have free time in the yard at the same time every day so they all read stuff at the same time (even though they cant read, someone must verbally tell them)

As for the moderating on here, they do a terrific job and are always on the ball. Whilst SS gets oppositiion supporters its a completely different matter here cos all the AFL clubs supporters can easily and normally do come onto the Saints board just to start stuff. Hence why the moderation might seem "harsh" compared to other sites, its because they need to keep ontop of things.

My first experience of Bigfooty hasn't been great, I just tried to preview my debut post and it vanished! My browser seems to be having an argument with the forum software.

Anyone got the goss on why SS has been down for so long? I've seen a couple of outages before but this one's a whopper.

I feel a bit sorry for the monkeys (what, with all that deciphering of Collingwoood supporter dribbling and typing post after post of repetitive tripe - when they'd rather be writing a thesis of the effects of global warming on bananas).

We need this sorted better somehow so it's not down
for so long. BF doesn't go down for a week does it??

Do we need to pump more $$$ into SS as users perhaps?

Or a holiday roster for admins???

What I'd hope for is that they're identifying and patching the exploit that brought the site down in the first place.

A few seem to have made it over here. I had a look in at truesainters but it doesn't seem that busy, and not enough pith on the orange there for my tastes.

If you're a SS member and you have found your way over here but haven't signed up yet, please join and start posting, we may as well settle in somewhere while our old home is down.

Could be refusing connections, could be disallowing things to be hosted to the public (closed server = only base users can see) or, if you take into account servers can run with thousands of line of code, it could be something pedantic as a misplaced } on line 4792. It's easier to say server problems chiefly because a hell of a lot of problem solving with PC's is trial and error, that if something works but it's still screwing up you then go to the next logical chain (if not the server maybe the cords?) and test them to find the faults.

In the case of hacking, they effectively screw with the integrity of the system, so it could also be a cascade failure from such a breach, which in a worst case scenario would foce a full reset of all data.

In short it can be something as simple as conflicting entries ( 1 not 0! 1 I say!) or catastrophic failure.

First thing would be changing passwords ect. then checking for any files that have been modified recently that shouldn't have been (with a complex webservice like a forum or content management system this could be anyone or more of thousands of files) and fixing them or replacing them with a back up or clean copy, If that doesn't work, you might have to look at the database which could be a big problem to fix, hopefully your hosting company does regular backups of the database if you dont and it can be rolled back to non hacked state.

Once it is fixed you do any updates to the software if available. And also look at trying to tighten the security if possible.

This is of course assuming that they have tampered with your data/files.

Payment is not the problem - I paid for a year's renewal weeks before the site got hacked.
