Yeah, the likes of Shuey, Puopolo and more recently, Ginnivan and Dylan Moore draw free kicks in a similar manner to Selwood - I'd argue that Ginnivan plays for frees far more than Selwood - yet none of them have ever been routinely booed.

selwood gets booed a hell of a lot more then ablett or martin or fyfe. Why is that? He isnt as good as them yet gets booed more?

a perception of being umpire pets and cheating the system is why they hate us. We havent won a flag for 11 years ffs.

the perception of being pets and cheats is completely wrong and i think born out of the fact we are the away team in 14 of our 22 games each season and are the away team in all big games which results in fans to focus on the frees we get cos the crowds alway boo when we get them.

if we dont recognise the problem its not something that we can unite to fix.

This kid is going to be an absolute star. He might have some ups and downs, but to be doing what he is doing at 21 is incredible. For all the discussion recently around our lack of high end picks, Fisher Mcasey was pick 6 in the same draft, both drafted as key backs. One is sitting in the SANFL unable to get a game in a bottom 4 side, the other is leading defenders for contested marks in the comp.

Is he the first quality KPP we've taken in the national draft since Hawkins? And Hawk was F/S under the old (slightly corrupt) rules which was a wonderfully unbalanced system. Under current rules we'd have ended up with Hawkins but no Selwood. Ouch!

The only other 2 I can think of were Pods and Blics, both taken in the rookie draft.

2019 is looking like a very strong draft, so that may be a costly pick from the Crows.

Some super players there: Jackson, Rowell, Anderson, DeKoning, Jones, Warner, Green, Weightman, Serong, Pickett. Not a full list.

Actually no - that was the set of rules prior to current rules. under the current rules we'd have the opportunity to bid-match, now if we decided we wanted to keep Hawkins and pick 7 and select Boak (who was our expected pick 7) we could use the points system, so no no Nathan Djerrkura, Simon Hogan and perhaps Dawson Simpson as a future second round pick.

These things are highly speculative of course, if things had gone to plan that day we'd be celebrating Boak and not Selwood (and not minding)

Was about to say the same. Not just tight - but Neale seems like a great all-round bloke (dare I say it, a bit Vardy like). These two will bring out the best in each other.

Also - how shy is SDK? Adding to that he appears to have humility and is very well spoken. Very lucky to have him. Well done Cats for grabbing him (weren’t another club after him and we pulled the trigger earlier as the Power took Georgiadis before we could?)

I'm sure I'd probably hate him (but respect him) if he were playing for another club.

No current player has played in as many wins as Joel Selwood; fact.

He has steered Geelong to many, many wins against every team in the comp; opposition supporters would be sick to death of a) seeing him win, b) his hard-nosed style, and c) the free kicks.

I've put forth my Selwood/free kicks arguments so many times over the years that I am content to never do so again and couldn't really care less what opposition supporters think in that regard.
