Frankston Rover Awards
FR_MEDAL.png

Now it is time for the Frankston Rover Award. The award for service to the league as chosen by the Administrator. As far as Season 35 goes, I should really say it is time to give the Frankston Rover Awards with an 'S' because this award was designed so that we can acknowledge efforts in doing the hard work that makes this league a better place and in Season 35 it is a rare instance where the efforts of multiple people are so outstanding over the course of the season that it would be unfair to exclude any one of them from such recognition.

Frankston Rover Award Winner - Broken

The first individual that I want to acknowledge by awarding the FRA to is the Hall of Fame Immortal Broken. On the eve of Season 35, I was informed by Ljp86 that changes in circumstances mean that he can no longer update the ladder and stats in a timely manner at a satisfactory quality. Ljp86 has done a great job on the ladder updates for 20+ seasons and it is an extremely tough act to follow. But on short notice, Broken had picked up the ladder thread, taken ownership and even added his own spin on it with fancy graphics and links, updating them reliably and with great quality. He is also responsible for all the vote graphics for this presentation!

Given the extraordinary efforts Broken has given in various statistical projects, it would surprise many to learn that Broken had only received one FRA previously. I don't believe that accurately reflects the contributions he has made in service of the league so this is a well overdue recognition for his commitment.

Congratulations Broken!

Frankston Rover Award Winner - TheInjuryFactory

Another player that I wish to recognise is TheInjuryFactory, not only does flashy media threads but is one of the most reliable, dedicated workers in doing the grunt work that elevates the presentation and quality of various initiatives that I want to run. Need jumper designs for Heritage Round on short notice? I reach out to TIF and he gets it done no problems. Need to put together a presentation for a brand new launch of State of Origin Series? TIF smashes the graphics out quickly to great quality. Need to put on a charity game? TIF is on it.

After my efforts to destroy his beloved team sheet rules I wouldn't blame him at all if he were to tell me to **** off on each occasion I've asked something of him but he is a consumate professional and absolutely deserving of a second FRA.

Frankston Rover Award Winner - Wosh

Last but certainly not least, is one of the genuine superstars I have been honoured to see go about her work across the entire journey - Wosh. As a site administrator, she does a power of unheralded work behind-the-scenes to make this league run so much smoother. Not only does she dedicate time to post games every Sunday, she organises badges, committee access, tagging capabilities along with providing leadership on plenty of initiatives, helping struggling clubs out in their recruitment efforts. Heritage Round, she helped out in posting the Legends games and even brought back Frankston Rover! The most notable is her brilliant work on our tour of the General Discussion Board Charity Tour where she set up the fundraising page, coordinated with the GD mods, pulled together a team of GD board members to partake in our tour game and drive engagement.

Given her efforts over the journey, it comes as a big surprise that she's never received this honour named after the Wombat - well now I think it's time we correct that record.

Brilliant work Wosh!

Definitely hard to pick just one of those. Congrats one and all.

Congratulations to my three dear friends, Broken, TheInjuryFactory, and Wosh on being recognisedwith the Frankston Rover Award. Many unrecognised and unknown efforts between this collective.

Hard to find three better servants for the league. Your service is immensely appreciated by me personally, and I am sure by everyone else in the league also. The league simply would be magnitudes more boring and dull without those contributions.

And a shoutout to Ljp86 for his extended service to the league before handing over to Broken this season. Hard to put into words his contribution over such a long period.

Can someone please escort SM from the premisis? I asked not to be disturbed, as a former admin of the league, I have that right.

Don't think anyone cares what you want.

Round 13

By manangatang

Round 13:

Round 13 kicked off with a compelling battle between the ladder-leading Royals and the 9th-placed Bears. Both teams had something to prove, but it was ultimately the Bears that flexed their muscles. The Royals just couldn’t score – they managed 1 solitary goal in the first quarter and were kept scoreless in the third quarter. For the Bears, Jezmiester40 and Broken each booted five goals in what became a romping victory, while Matera92 worked hard (22 possessions, 6 marks, 1 goal).

The Bombers hosted the Gumbies in what was touted as match of the round, and they jumped out of the blocks early (leading by 37 points at QT). It was this fast start that ultimately set them up for victory, led by gab213 ‘s 5 goals and norway blue ‘s 26 touches and 8 tackles.

The Phoenix travelled to the Hippodrome to take on the mighty Furies, and it was the visitors who worked hard for a 21-point victory. The rainy conditions meant that this was a truly even ‘team performace’ from the Phoenix, with thewizardmelon being the highest goalkicker with 3. Bovo worked hard for the Furies (24 touches, 1 goal), but it wasn’t enough.

With their pointy tails between their legs, the Demons returned home to host the Dragons in Round 13. The game was an absolute see-saw – the Demons led by 24 points at half time, only to trail by 4 points at three quarter time. The game ended with high drama – a late flurry of scoring meant that the teams ultimately had to share the points – a thrilling 111-point apiece draw. Wosh kicked 8 goals from FF for the Demons, while Tarkyn_24 laid 8 tackles to go along with his 22 touches and 1 goal. cartwright (21 touches, 8 tackles, 1 goal) was also very strong. For the Dragons, the wily veteran Ljp86 (29 touches, 4 tackles, 3 goals) stood out, as did 9 goals from Hatchy1992 .
Headless failed to make any substantial contribution for the Demons.

A slightly less exciting tussle played out at the Brunswick Junction Oval, as the Roys played host to the Wonders, with the latter running out 21-point victors under cloudy skies. Mooch played well for the hosts (4 goals), while Zevon ‘s performance in the guts was not to be missed (23 touches, 10 tackles). But ClarkeM (32 touches, 11 marks, 1 goal), jezzajay (25 touches, 7 marks) and Grand Uncle Horace (9 tackles) were up for the task.

The final game of Round 14 involved the literal cellar-dwelling Rats and their 4th-placed rivals, the Warriors. Rainy weather made conditions hard at The Underground, although the Warriors managed to settle better and navigated their way to a 9-point win. ant555 laid 6 tackles to go along with his 16 touches and 1 goal, while Kennedy Parker had 24 possessions in the slop. TheInjuryFactory led all comers with 27 touchces of his own, while Dinsdale ‘s 7 tackles and The Filth Wizard ‘s 4 goals were key to the Warriors‘ win.

Round 14
R14_Header.png

By manangatang

Round 14:

The Bombers and the Warriors kicked off Round 14 with a vital match of the round at Abdu Prison. And what a spectacular tussle it was – high scoring and stat-heavy. The Warriors eventually saluted by 9 points (128-119), led by 4 goals from The Filth Wizard and toxic , 34 touches from spudmaster and 29 of the best from TheInjuryFactory . The Bombers were well-represented by 8 goals from gab213 , 28 touches and 4 tackles from kickthething and 29 touches + 7 tackles from Pugsley . All spectators walked away happy in the end.

The Gumbies were looking to re-enter the top 4 as they hosted the third-placed Wonders at the House of Gumby. This was another high-scoring match, although it was very one-sided in the end, with the Wonders running out 61-point victors. Barrybran (26 touches) and beez (25 touches, 7 marks, 1 goal) played well for the hosts, with HARPSichord (35 touches, 6 marks, 2 goals), Cubs2Lions (28 touches, 6 tackles, 2 goals) and SM (30 touches) just too strong for the visitors.

In the battle for 8th spot on the ladder, the Roys hosted the Bears at Brunswick Junction Oval. The match started out quite evenly, although it was eventually the Roys who pushed ahead of (and surpassed) their more highly-fancied rivals. The hosts were led by 8 goals from Mooch , a 23 possession, 5-mark performance from Zevon and 26 touches from 3KZ is Football . Broken toiled hard for the visitors (5 goals), while Millky95 laid 5 tackles.

To finish off Round 14, the Old Boys sought to get a sniff of a top 8 spot on the ladder as they hosted the Royals. The warm weather suited the hosts, as they eventually cantered to an easy 64-point win. Bonz managed 5 goals for the Old Boys, supported ably by SaintBilly (28 touches, 7 tackles, 3 goals) and Mrs Turbo (26 possessions, 5 tackles). It was a tough day at the office for the Royals, although hotchilli performed admirably (28 touches, 9 marks, 1 goal), as did big man GreyCrow (11 hitouts, 27 touches, 3 tackles).
