Chris Waterman on SEN saying Jake has inflammatory bowel disease and needs infusions (didn’t say what if) to recover. May need an operation and may be on medication for years with a small chance he can’t play football again

Wasn’t entirely happy that it took until the Monday night after he was sent home from Adelaide before they reached out to him albeit it sounded like it wasn’t until then they were aware of how serious it was

He also said he wasn’t great before the Collingwood game but played through because numbers were so low

Put a line through him for the season and chalk it down to yet another weird injury (or illness in this case)

Sounds like what Brock Lesnar had

**** me- now we're losing players from Crohn's disease.

This stuff builds up over years and years, it's not on the club because they took a couple of days to diagnose it.

I think the really important thing here is whether we classify this as soft tissue or not...

Those kids have had the worst luck with illness

A mate of mine had this twice. Was in hospital for 2 weeks the first time.

He was my boss at the time it occurred. I remember going into work and he looked like death, so I made him go home before finding out his wife ended up driving him to hospital in Frankston. He was in a very bad way at the time.

Sounds like diviticulitis, which can range in severity.

Yep, it can turn into sepsis

Chalk it down to poor relationships between players and medical staff.

Heard on SEN WA, that Jake's Dad Chris said he has a serious
Internal stomach issue potentially career threatening. He also seemed a bit dirty on the club for being late in following up on his issue. Interesting interview, terrible for Jake, really a talented player and loyal guy.

I caught a variety of this last winter. Absolute campaigner of an illness.
Hope he gets well in due course.

He would be more than capable of getting a role in another sport and would even within the AFL. It’s a small industry. The clubs would look at his “body of work” - being in charge through a sustained period of success, culminating in a premiership.

The last couple of years enough said, but he could conceivably say that it was a number of other factors that have also contributed to the injury toll.

Thank you Warren and all the best. The first of a few changes here’s hoping.

From memory there was stories of bad blood between the Waterman clan and the club when Alec was cut.

Got smoothed out a bit when Jake joined and Alec joined the Beagles, but wonder if Chris still bears a grudge and this opened old wounds

He’s a dad that’s upset his son wasn’t cared for, completely understand it. Bell obviously reading a statement from the HR department. I feel for Jake, that UC is debilitating and can flare up at anytime it’s a life long illness and increases your chance for bowel cancer. Sending love!
