Agreed. As soon as i saw it was an Achilles i knew the week to week thing was BS and that he may well be out for the season. Achilles is a very serious injury, takes a long time to heal, the timeline for recovery is very unpredictable (and Natanui is no spring chicken which makes the timeline likely to be at the longer end of the spectrum) and it is easy to re - injure or recur if you come back too early. It is one of the worst injuries you can have. And if we are well and truly out of the hunt for the 8 by the bye what would be the point of bringing him back then and risking reinjuring it and having it impact next pre season? And he will have no match fitness or conditioning. I reckon he is probably gone for the year. And they probably already know that. They are just rope - a doping us still. We will get to the bye and then they will tell us.

Shame on the sports media for not calling BS on Simpson and the club for lying about the recovery timeline. I am no Doctor, just a lifelong sports fan, and i know that about Achilles injuries. Any sports journo worth their salt should know that aswell. And they should have challenged the club at pressers on their overly optimistic timeline for recovery. They are absolute lapdogs.

Not sure why the club did it. Lying about or hiding a player having a broken rib is one thing. You don't want opposition players targeting that players ribs. Lying about an injury to a player who is not on the field and likely won't be all year is something else. Either it was embarassment from the club at giving a player over 30 a two year deal and then have him missing the entire first year of that deal or they wanted to get supporter enthusiasm and optimism for the season to the highest level possible early in the year in order to sell memberships. They didn't want any info coming out dampenned supporter enthusiasm and made supporters start expecting a repeat of 2022 and choose to keep the money they would have spent on memberships in their pockets instead. Or both.

I don't know what they are saying about the timeline for McGovern's return now but initially they were saying 8 weeks and that is BS too. No way he is back in 8 weeks.

American leagues actually enforce this, don’t they?
They do, they take it pretty seriously

Personal fines for the coach too. And this one was just for listing a QB as a 'full participant' in a training match when he only played part of it.

Yep - I doubt we see him back this year and I also think he might end up retiring without playing again. Any setback in pre-season and he'd probably be done.

If he doesn't play this year I'd prefer that he retires. Opens up a list spot for someone else to have a go at.

This may or may not have anything to do with his achilles but I’m still annoyed at how they managed NN at the end of last year. Why play him when he clearly wasn’t right, we weren’t contending and delay his surgery? Similarly, it’s unlikely it’s worth playing him at the back end of this year.

I really think we should be sending him to the LTI and getting a top up ruckman a la Zac Clarke to tide us over during the sup period

I have no faith he’s back this season or at all.

Bailey Williams is trying, but Jamo and Barnett aren’t ready. Having one option isn’t really gonna cut it even for a bottom two side

The mid season draft is still 2 months away so plenty of time for those decisions

We also have Cripps as a likely LTI without giving up hope on Naitanui if he’s making progress by then

And if we do get a ruck I’d rather find one who still has the capability of playing another 2-3 years at least in preference to someone like Clarke who’d be a one season stop gap

The stop gap option is Naismith. Performing well in the VFL. Hugely risky though given his injury history.

Well done, belatedly, to simpson for telling the truth.

But the media really should not let the club's illogical, pointless, contemptuous behaviour towards its fans slide. Its not 1990 anymore and this shit shouldn't fly. In an era where smart phones are a thing there was plainly no match day advantage in pretending a guy who couldn't train might play, so the only discernable reason to cover this up was to avoid heat on the obviously dumb decision to resign him on a two year contract.

For a lot of little reasons I think its increasingly obvious Nisbett is well past his use bye date, and having the senior coach get frustrated enough to publically call out his bullshit is a pretty clear sign people at the club are struggling with his ridiculous playbook. He needs to go.

At this point, is anyone even surprised by this?
Our media/medical departments operate somewhere in the realm between incompetence and outright lies

It's really not that hard; just tell the truth! Stop with the fraudulent return to play predictions and if you don't know, say so!

They have been treating fans with contempt for a very long time and this nonsense needs to stop, it benefits nobody

Just went down to watch them play Williamstown live on Friday, mate works for the gulls. Naismith didn't look up to it, the Williamstown ruck is apparently an area the club wants to upgrade and he still smoked Naismith. He looks skinnier but also less fit than when he played AFL, wouldn't be any benefit to playing him over Williams IMO. He's just taller than most VFL rucks.

I sort of reckon the ruck position is one where you only go offensive and plan around winning hitouts if you're in the top 5-8 rucks in the league, and these days the rest are best served being combative enough that they can restrict any hitout advantage to the opposition and make up the advantage in other areas like being able to play an extra runner, being a good forward etc.

If that is the route we go down I'd rather someone who is more of a natural forward who has a big durable body that can scrag things up in the ruck too - Darcy Cameron/Sam Reid type, or even a big key back who can do the same thing. Williams/Jamo are both best as the #1 ruck and have shown a lot less as forwards (they throw off our structure there also). In a development year we may as well be playing one of those two as our lead ruck always and getting used to it, and looking for a good chopout who might become a serviceable forward - no point in my opinion picking up someone to just play #1 ruck as the only way that's worth it is if they become one of the genuinely high end rucks in the league, think it'll be more feasible to find someone whose weapons lie elsewhere.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but was Nic Nat not out with a sore achilles in parts of the second half of last season?

Last year was a knee issue

He had Achilles surgery in 2016. Came back then did his knee

Has reportedly been managing Achilles soreness on and off for a years now though

Not an injury, but Foley is now clear of his suspension so will be available for WAFL most likely

As mentioned, Jamieson, HEdwards and Witherden may all be available. Sheed is questionable it seems

Outside that only Shuey is short term - possibly a couple of weeks

JWilliams and Chesser are likely multiple weeks away

Naitanui, Ryan, McGovern and Cripps are all post bye at best. Cripps is probably out for the season
