I dont think he is a real 'need', but im hoping partington drops to our pick. I like his speed and reliability.

Not the pure wingman or forward pocket we are after, but i think he would be a solid pick at 34.

Late trade, we have: 27, 66, 77, 83, 84, 101, 119

Speed good
My preference is for a high pressuring, small fast forward

Have i got it calculated correctly we have 6 list spots to fill
3-5 Senior list (depending if we go 38-40 on list)
and
1-3 Rookie listed
Leaving
Cox and Wyatt on top of the list numbers as CAT B's
???

He would still be the 27th player available to us.

Yeah I'm not sure why people are pushing our selections out. Hine was quoted during trade week valuing our pick 26 (when we still had it) at about 21.

If anything I think they picks come in not out. If there are 3 academy picks before 27 don't we get the 24th best non academy kid?

Given that we have essentially cleared the decks as far as our rookies go, could we be targeting a couple of players in the rookie draft? Based on yesterday's list lodgement we need 3-5 snior players and 3-5 rookie selections (with our last two selections to be Keeffe and Thomas if they are still there). I'd suggest it is likely we will go 3 senior selections and 5 rookie selections.

Not exactly. Remember GWS are the only one of GWS, Brisbane and Sydney to have a selection before our pick 27 (don't worry about Brisbane's pick 2, it won't be needed for academy selections). How it works is that on the night GWS/Brisbane/Sydney will essentially trade their picks for an earlier pick to match the bid of their player. So for example lets say Melbourne bid on Mills at 3 (which is likely). Sydney must then trade it's later picks up to the points value of selection 3 to gain pick 3 and select Mills at pick 3. Melbourne's pick then becomes pick 4 and everyone ahead of Sydney's later selections will actually drop back one and our selection becomes selection 28. There are approximately 5 academy kids that will likely go in the top 15 selections and only GWS has a selection inside that that will be used, which means all the selections will see GWS/Brisbane/Sydney trade in from outside the top 30 actually pushing most of the top 30 picks back. Our pick 27 will likely go back at least 4 selections in the draft. However our later selections will move in as there are about 21 selections between current picks 30 and 75 that will be traded by GWS, Sydney and Brisbane to match academy bids.

By the time this is all finished our first two selections are likely to be about picks 31 (the 26th best non-academy selection) and 50-56 (roughly).

I hope this makes sense.

That's my feel.

At a guess it'll be 3 ND selections and 3 "live" selections in the rookie draft. It might be one of those rookie drafts that we go with mature types ala 2012 with Frost, Martin, Dwyer and Oxley (I think Simpkin could be handy on the rookie list).

As draft day gets closer I'm increasingly hoping we bid on Himmelburg with our first selection (if he's still in the pool).

Considering the players we've brought in it isn't a horrible point to enter the draft, IMO.

I reckon the pick 27 will go best available and becoming increasingly confident a couple of players I wasn't sure on have climbed into the top 25 or so which obviously means a couple will drop.

First Selection

One that I think will be there is Daniel Rioli. Increasingly confident he may slip to our pick and whilst he is the 'fan' favourite he actually plays a role we need. Another is Ben Crocker. Suits our needs perfectly. He stands 185cm but he is a strong forward player in the air and on the ground. One player I cant believe will be there but just may make it to us is Ryan Burton. My understanding is he could be a bit of a slider because of his injuries.

Last Selections

Hisham Kerbatieh I now think is a chance to land much later because some of his testing was quite poor. In his role I would look past it but I reckon it will mean he slips a fair way. I suspect it will be circa 50 but lets hope a bit further if missed Rioli. Couple of other small forwards coming up for me are Davin Ferriera and Yestin Eades.

Another that might be at our last pick is Sam Skinner. I wouldn't have him anywhere near it but if the mail is true then he would be a slam dunk at our last ND pick.

The one I am going to watch closely in this draft is Bailey Williams. Seen a bit of vision of his games recently through some mates and geez this kid is elite. He has so much time....I cant think of many kids I have seen who have more. Never been in a junior talent programme so upside is huge. I have him about 50 on my board but he could easily be there and is Hine type player.

Like the list, but there's one further name I'll throw into the mix. Tom Phillips if available is good odds for one of our later selections :thumbsu:

Yeah dont mind Tom at all. Would only take late or rookie as think few things need addressing.

Stil putting my mock together and one name am struggling to place is David Cunningham. There is a lot to like about him and he offers much of what we need but is our first pick a bit of a reach for him. Some would say yes but he played some good footy in the finals. Fiorini another who is just classy and whilst he has been winning more of his own footy just wonder if its enough for Buckley.....maynard and DeGoey were telling choices last year in terms of what he wants. I also think if Rioli was there they would find it hard to say no but the club hasnt been hugely interested in targetting small forwards so cant be sure.

Dont be surprised if David Mennen gets called to us at some point.

I thought Mennen looked ok in some of our vfl games, even during his first match against Carlton (Preston) at the 'G he didn't look out of place. Wouldn't be a bad late pick.

Yeah i was pretty happy with a few things he did that day. He got the ball a couple of times in traffic and got himself out with his speed and then aimed up back through the corridor to open up play and did it well.

mattys123 probably saw him a bit as well.

If we are going with a senior list of 38 and one of our selections is the upgrading of Frost, we may only take 2 in the draft (unless Hine sees something late that he likes)

I think even with Frost upgraded we are still at 35 so he will have to take 3 unless he wants to upgrade Gault (pls no....). Will also be 3 in the rookie draft.
