Nah people want to focus on his record between 16-19.

Because it suits their narrative
Without wanting to do the whole "process" discussion again the fact he had a shit record and then hasnt coached for 3 years should be considered.

Its not the ONLY thing that should be considered and it shouldnt have much weight but it should be considered.

He had to rebuild after 2015 and when Freo flicked him he had done a lot of work.

Longmuir gets the benefit now but much of it happened under Lyon.

Fremantle were as exhausted after 2015 as we were after 2011. But he put teams with lesser depth right in the frame.

Absolutely fantastic coach. The question is, does he still have the magic?

For how long though? This list unless we find another young elite mid has 3 years in it.

Hes mortgaged the future for now and the now sucks balls.
It’s funny but I thought a lot of people said our list was clearly a top 8 list some even said too 4 but it was the coach letting the list diwn. Now the coach has gone and the list isn’t good enough. Some of this stuff does my head in.

I’d ditch Gags too. He’s not as big a priority but we need to refresh all areas of the footy department. They’re all tainted goods.
Need to find a better replacement though, otherwise there is no point

The one glaring list mistake I think he's made over his time is bringing in Hill

Unfortunately for him it had already been decided we would chase Hill well before he started. He was left to eat the shit sandwich

Most of our list errors have come from our draft selections, which I don't feel he's have a huge say in? And the majority of the really bad draft errors were before his time.

Interesting timing Jay Clark

Good to finally hear the story, although I'm not quite sure who all the names are haha.

Does it sound like the Saints hierarchy at the time were a bunch of tools, screwed him around for 12 months, leaked stuff to the media, and Lyon couldn't trust them anymore? If so, I'm pretty amazed he's even considering coaching us again! But he's smart enough to know those people have left.

F me,

Nobody should be made accountable for not renewing a membership, I cancelled mine because of my back, and not for our terrible showing from the Saints these last few years, but I must admit if RTB comes on board, I might have to take harder drugs😷🤒😵‍💫😵
They have my membership whether I am well enough to make it to the game or not. And I will literally drag myself there if it isn't going to kill me. I don't expect the players to put their bodies on the line if I baulk at my wallet.

The only legitimate reason to not sign up is financial hardship. Feed yourself and your family first, pay your bills, after that it is all in.

I reckon Beatson from the Swans and Cripps are the two best list managers in the league and recruitment/draft has been such a glaring weakness over many years now
Not my area of expertise so I'll defer to your opinion George, but the best in the business is Stephen Wells, hands down for mine. I know he's passed the baton to Mackie, but he's still active in his new role.

How has he mortgaged the future though? In that one off season where we traded Hill in?

As for elite mids surely that is what every side is ultimately searching for. The kids from last year look like the most promising in years.

Maybe it already has been

Just like you ignoring or dismissing anyone who brings it up because it doesn’t suit the narrative you are pushing.
I’ve acknowledged his warts.

No one has put their hand up and said. Yeah rebuilding years. We are putting a lot of stock into it.

Completely disregarding what he did from 07-2015

Do you mean a succession plan is in place in 2 years or someone has actually taken over from Lyon in 2 years?
Succession plan now to see Hayes or Enright take over from 2025

They were all on coke but ..... ummmm ..... what's your point again man ?

I'd take the more recent evidence IMO
Sacked not long after this.

This is the most recent evidence.

Had them 7-5.

In the eight. Beaten 4 sides above them.

Everything went to shit.

Look a little deeper and…

Star recruit Jesse Hogan, key defender Alex Pearce and emerging forward Matt Taberner have all been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

While Nat Fyfe has been plagued by shoulder and elbow injuries, the Hill brothers have battled to stay fit and big man Aaron Sandilands has only recently returned from a long injury layoff.
