Is runs on the board a requirement now?

Sure they won't have the highlights from over 8 years ago but given they haven't been out of a coaches box for years and have been coaching the modern game, they would have other assets they could bring to the role as a first time coach which almost all premiership coaches have been in recent history,
The way we’ve handled this from a media point of view - absolutely. You bring in a rookie and it would burn.

We’ll have a very brief conversation with them just the coming week. All unfit to coach for what we need.
Slotted right back in, ey? 🤣

L

lets say there are 20 questions we ask and he gives us the 20 answers we wanted to hear then why going looking for someone else.
If you aren't willing to talk to anyone else, it suggests you went into that first conversation willing to accept anything that person says.

If he is such a strong and standout candidate, then no one should be against sounding out other options to see what they can offer given he should outshine anything they have to say.

I’d imagine it is when you are saying the following:

“a very clear view about what we need”

said didn’t have “the winning culture or ruthless commitment to football excellence that we need”

“What I would say is between Andrew and myself and the board, we’ve uncovered what we need and our members need to know we’ll be swift and decisive and go and find the coach we need.

And a reference list of players and admin a mile long to support all of that.

Fmd we suffered through some torture under Cho

Remember for an entire year the campaigner played a cooked Arno and whatever Nathan Wright was :drunk:

Shane Savage and Newnes on the flanks :drunk:

But that’s unfair on others if he gives you answers that can’t be improved on. I’m not saying they should accept anything and that’s why I said he needs to give the right answers.

My point was about you lot crying that he doesn’t go through the process.

No research. Just assumption.

If after the review they have identified its Ross they want and need. That’s a process. But that hasn’t been acceptable to you lot.

You want him in a suit and tie with a power point preso up against Yze and Caracella and whoever else.
Wrong again.

I’d prefer the suit and tie but provided he goes through something 99% of us have said we’d accept it.

Incredibly thats a pretty agreed upon thing there’s a handful of dissenters but you’re one of them just on the opposing side.

No process cause he’s flawless and footy is the same now as it was when he was not quite a premiership coach.

Your blind faith is as ridiculous as what your opposing.

If someone who hasn't coached for 3 years and coached a poor side in their last 4 years before getting sacked isn't willing to get up and present for a job, that's a massive red flag.

To me that shows he's pretty comfortable with where he sits and thinks he's good enough to not have to stoop to a bunch of board members. I can't remember which job he wouldn't interview for but with Carlton they seem to have had him signed up then wanted to reverse engineer a process. That would have raised some serious red flags for me. The place was an absolute shit show and he probably stared to suspect he was being pulled into the vortex. If it was the Collingwood job they had made up their minds but wanted some heads to come and make their process look legit.

I prefer to run a process to make sure that the decision is based on a solid thought process but perhaps their process in this case was to find a coach with certain traits which cut the choices down to one...which means that a process meaning that endless rounds of presentations would have been for show.

Who’s your guess as forward line coach when Lyon is announced?

How are you Mikka? They old crew are going back to the club and the old posters are back on the forum. Good to see you guys back.

Ross’ last successful season didn’t have 6-6-6, interchange cap was different, no full ground zone defence, lower scoring for a start.

We saw the dogs win in 16 with fleet hands, 17-20 was the tigers manic pressure era, 21 was free flowing fast scoring attacking football with the dees and that stands to this year with the cats.

Footy shifts by degrees year to year and he’s not coached in 3 and not been successful in 8.

He watches, I’m sure he analyses and he was a brilliant coach when it came to breaking down systems and maximizing his teams strengths.

If he can still do that then he’s probably the right guy but we don’t have much proof that he is still that guy.

I get your enthusiasm for him, I really do but saying footy is the same as it was in 2015 and that’s why he’s right is not the answer. If he does the same thing he did in 2015 we’ll be fighting for the number 1 draft pick not the flag.

Alistair clarkson has also not had a winning season since the 6 6 6 rule was brought in. Does that make him any less of a coach???

Good coaches adapt, Lyon hasn't been away from the game at all.

You can step away from running a business for years and come back and run a successful one no worries years later. Coaching is the same.

Yes, that's what they said at the press conference. You've decided that means it has to be Ross Lyon.

Others disagree and believe that if they truely want a 'ruthless commitment to football excellence', then a proper process should be run rather than it being limited to a field of 1, especially when that 1 hasn't coached a winning record since 2015, and been out of coaching for 3 years.

Pretty sure Ross is working on that right now - considering he’s apparently already got the job 🙄🤣

Can someone be a champion and share this article with the rest of us plebs?
Put it in the media thread yesterday

Yes the entire media and myself have decided they are referring to Ross.

Apparently Gdinski too. Even his ex players.

All wrong.

First question at the presser.

“Have you spoken to Ross Lyon?”

Coincidental isn’t it.

He hasn’t had a winning record since 2015 and the 6-6-6 rule will be a bridge too far. What would everyone know?
